Sugar plums, it’s time for Thankful Thursday 09.16.2021. Joining Rebecca Jo at Knit by God’s Hand and Jennifer at All 4 Boys in sharing the hosting responsibilities for the Thankful Thursday series. Some weeks, you might discover posts from all 3 of us, other Thursdays, it might just be one of us hosting. But whatever the case, YOU are always welcome to join us!!
THANKFUL THURSDAY 09.16.2021
Have had another pretty good week over here. How ’bout you? September has been a gentler month for my family. I am so thankful. Mom gave us a scare when she began crying most of 2 days. We immediately suspected another UTI. In the elderly, UTIs can cause changes in their mental facilities. “Medical News Today” explains in this article that UTIs can be responsible for:
- restlessness
- hallucination
- social withdrawal
- agitation
- confusion
And Mom had all of these. But her urine test came back negative. So now we don’t know what is going on. But she has been some better in the last couple of days.
COMING TO YOU Straight FROM MY GRATITUDE JOURNAL
For my Thankful Thursday posts, I usually share the ‘gratefuls’ I’ve listed in my gratitude journal over the week or month, whatever length of time has elapsed since my last Thankful Thursday post. It’s been a couple of weeks since my last Thankful Thursday post, here. Here are some of the things I’ve been grateful for since.
- Traveling mercies for Matt in coming to visit us and returning home to NY
- Clean house with spring cleaning finally finished
- Neat yard after having the bushes trimmed and the lawn edged
- Mom sounded great (before the suspected UTI)
- Brennyn resuscitated a newborn baby at work
- Photographing different things downtown
- Swimming and pool time
- Crafting
- My Cami wanted to call Gabba and Campa
- Cami’s Covid tests came back negative (she had classic symptoms but turns out it was an upper respiratory infection)
- My Daddy’s birthday – glad he was born, hope there was a heavenly celebration with angel food cake
- Kevin visited in Mom in person after the Code Red at her apartment complex was lifted
- Medical and dental technology
- Kevin was able to get to Mom and calm her down
- Cami’s excitement at seeing me
- PC asking if I need to go to KY to be with Mom
- No terror attacks on 9-11
- Cami finally went back to school (daycare) after being absent for a week
And there’s more
- Snuggles from my girls
- Ooodles of yellow butterflies everywhere
- For friends like Deb in Great Britain and Sharon in OK who check on me when I got silent
- Sharing Pinterest boards with Cady
- Beautiful weather
- Legs that can still run on the treadmill…or run period
- Quiet afternoon
- Time for Paul and Matt to be together
- Journaling using Maria’s prompts at Krafty Planner
- Airfare credit to use to visit Brennyn, Mustafa and Cady and to attend their baby shower in November
- Cooler morning temps
Yup, it’s been a good couple of weeks.
FINAL THOUGHTS
As I shared last Thankful Thursday post, a refugee settlement has been created on the outskirts of El Paso on a firing range for the U.S. Army. The city is collecting items to help the refugees. The Armed Services YMCA here in town has created an Amazon wish list for the refugees here at Ft. Bliss. If you would like to help, please click here for the list. Thank you for your consideration.
I have been having some pain in my neck a little higher and lower than the location of my prior cervical spine surgeries. Had some MRIs and X-rays done a week ago and the results indicate I have 2 herniated discs and some other issues. Will be going to the neurosurgeon in October to find out my options. So thankful for the medical imaging and the medical professionals who have been taxed beyond belief in the past year and a half.
YOUR TURN
What would top your list of things your are most grateful for this week? Is the weather making you smile? Have you made some fun fall plans? Next week, I will be sharing my autumn bucket list or fall fun list on 09.21.2021. And having a final look at my summer bucket list. Would love to have you join me.
If you have a thankful Thursday post to share, won’t you link it up below? Then be sure to stop by to say hi to some of the others linking up with us.
Thanks for popping by. I am thankful FOR YOU!!
Hugs and kisses,
leannelc
Hi Leslie – it sounds like a great couple of weeks (despite the spinal issues). I’m so glad that life is going well for you and your family. We’re all good here – Spring is slowly creeping in and the sunshine is just lovely.

Hi Leslie. Greetings from Melbourne, Australia. We are currently in Corona lockdown, and the novelty of that wore off about half an hour into it… Well, let us be honest, there never was any novelty of any shape or form about lockdown. But, we must soldier on and do our best for the greater good. I go for long walks each morning, I have a roof over my head and a job. A lot more than some have, so I remain grateful for these things. I do enjoy reading your posts, so keep up the good work! 🙂
Nancy
Lots to be thankful for! It’s often the little things that makes us happy right? Enjoy your weekend!
Deb
YAY! for the many things on your gratitude list and BOO for the spinal problems.
I do like this idea of Thankful Thursday, I may have to start joining in!

I’m having back problems too but luckily they are feeling a lot better so I’m thankful for that.

So sorry to hear about you Mom’s bad days but so glad she seems to be doing better. Let us know how your dr visit about your spinal problems goes and hoping the treatment can be easy for you. Overall sounds like you had many good things in your life and wishing the same going forward.

Hi, Leslie! I’m glad that your Mom is doing better! Praise God for that! … And I love that you have a gratitude journal. I think I need to start one as well because even in the midst of trials, there is still so much to be grateful for. Hugs and many blessings to you, Beautiful!

I am thankful for time well spent with my Dad this week. We got out and enjoyed breakfast together, which is his favorite meal of the day. This season of life with aging parents can be difficult, but I am learning to just take it one day at a time. I do hope your Mom is feeling better soon!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you for coming by!! So glad you were able to spend some quality time with your dad this week. I wish I could pop in to visit Mom a couple of times a week. Hate being so far away. Mom loves breakfast best, too. Would love to take her out for biscuits and gravy. Maybe next visit. Yes, we have to just take life one day at a time and be thankful for the moments we have with our elderly loved ones.

Oh wow, lots to take in and find gratitude too Leslie. I only recently heard that UTIs in older people can do that. I hope that her health improves. It’s a tough call time being OLD as my 97yo Dad would say..who is quite well really and 100% independent in daily life. My husband knows about cervical spine surgeries and they do not leave people with no pain, sadly. He has his second one so he could remain upright…so far OK but he cannot look up properly. Enough! I like the positivity of gratitude a great deal and can often bring myself back from the brink of ‘not fun’ times by thinking of what I am grateful for.
Take care

Hi Leslie, it’s always great to read your gratitude posts and you sure do have loads to be grateful for. I love your positivity! I also remember my father kept getting UTIs and it really sent him off the deep end so I understand about your mother’s issues. I hope your issues with your neck get sorted out too! Take care. #weekendcoffeeshare

A gratitude journal is a wonderful idea! At the moment I only write one in my head, but from time to time I make it a physical one. Thank you for a wonderful post. I hope you are enjoying your weekend.
Iris
Oh my goodness, will definitely be praying for your pain. Hoping you’re feeling much better soon and they have some answers for you.
You always remind me that we do have so much to be thankful for each and every day!

Thank you so much for the prayers, Iris. I am not miserable with pain but just struggling to sleep some nights. I appreciate your sweet comment and thoughtful prayers.

I’m so sorry to hear about your mom! My grandpa has been having the same issues and he tested negative as well. I hope she is able to get back to herself completely soon! Love your gratitude list!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hope your grandpa is feeling better. They put Mom on a course of antibiotics even though she tested negative for a UTI and we think it helped. Maybe if only as a placebo. Bless their hearts. Sure have so much to be thankful for.

Hi Leslie. This past two weeks I have an easy grateful-for item. At the age of 66 with 2 complicating medical conditions. I caught covid somehow but had the mildest case of anyone I know of. I was never in danger and mostly just had to sleep it off. Hard to beat huh?
Thanks for sharing your list.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Wow, so glad your case of Covid was a mild one. Hallelujah, huh? We have escaped so far, but not really sure how. Just thankful we have.
Gary A Wilson
Hi Leslie. Absolutely – Hallelujah indeed!
I thought I’d managed to miss it altogether as it seems to be settling down here, and I might have missed my own case but for my daughter having some of those rapid-test kits and one weekend having suspicious enough symptoms that she decided I should take one of those tests.
But yep – glad for the easy ride, but still no fun. Hope you stay clear of it.
