Fashionistas and clothes-wearing friends, thank you for popping in for Ageless Style 10.2021: Cozy Cardis. This series is hosted by 9 of my blogging buddies and me. Our group recently expanded so you might see some new faces starting with this month’s edition. Honored to be joining this stylish group of fashion bloggers.
AGELESS STYLE LINK UP
The Ageless Style Link Up goes live on the third Thursday of the month. For each post one of the gals in the group selects a theme then all of us put together a look or looks reflecting it. Last month’s theme, ‘gem colors,’ was chosen Mireille at Chez Mireille Fashion Travel Mom. You can check out that post, here. I wore my garnet colored skater dress from Amazon. It is a great dress at a great price. Check it out!!
Just a reminder: Once Upon a Time & Happily Ever After occasionally uses affiliate links which are usually italicized. If you click or make a purchase from an italicized link provided I may receive a very small commission at no cost to you. Thank you for your support.
Ageless Style 10.2021: Cozy Cardis
This month’s prompt, cozy cardigans, was suggested by Amy at Amy’s Creative Pursuits. I think this was a prompt we were all excited by. I mean what goes better with the first of fall than cozy cardis? And maybe a pumpkin spiced latte? Or cup of hot chocolate? The hardest thing about this prompt was deciding which cardigan to share.
My final choice was a color block A New Day cardigan I picked up on sale at Target at the end of the fall season last year. Still had the tags on it!!
Paired it with gray Old Navy super skinny Rockstar jeans and a white button up shirt. For accessories, I chose my maroon faux suede booties and a necklace made up of shells in various fall shades similar to those in the cardigan. Was even having a semi-good hair day!!
It’s funny, in looking through my photos for past cardigan outfits, I went back as far as 2 years ago. Back when I was still coloring my hair. It made me cringe to see how brassy and almost blonde it was at times. Ha! Going natural was one of the easiest, best things I did during the pandemic. And I actually began going gray before I knew what Covid was!! Just worked out that most of the process happened while we were locked up or locked down…whatever the case.
I guess my gray hair looks a little wiry and wild but it really is soft. And so much healthier now days. This week I have begun taking Vegamour GRO Biotin Gummies for hair. They are so yummy and promise “fuller-looking, luxurious hair that shines and radiates.” [source] Stay tuned for my review in a few weeks.
Pockets for the Win
This Target cardi is the softest material. Like a poor, retired woman’s version of cashmere. And has two roomy pockets!!
Never realized how important pockets were until I did away with our landline phone and carried my cell with me everywhere. Even so, before walking from room to room with my cell in hand (or in pocket) I try to ask myself if I would have done that bc=before cell. Would I have taken my home phone into the bathroom with me for goodness sake? Or on a walk? I think not!!
I like pockets when I am with my grandbabies, too. We seem to be forever picking up interesting rocks, or flowers, or bugs…which I put right back down again. But pockets come in handy for mementos. Asked Lauren to take a few photos for me in their lovely back yard. They have mounds of the prettiest mums.
Of course, my babies wanted to get in the action. And I wanted them to!! Not sure what Lucia was doing with her legs in this photo below. We did take her for horse riding lessons but that was a week ago.
Love my babies so much.
Cami is a busy lady. She doesn’t stand still for long.
And she was even sick this day!! But I digress.
Back to Cardis
So, do you wear cardigans? They are part of my go-to uniform. Tee or top + jeans + cardigan. Long cardis. Short. Solid colors. Cardis in with prints. Heavy knit. Lightweight. I love them all. Haven’t worn this cozy lilac cardigan in a year or more. Bought it, and a similar cardigan in teal, with 3 blouses that were perfect for work at the Loft Outlet in the Dayton (Ohio) Outlet Mall 4 years ago. But my working days are behind me. Should I keep these pieces, wearing them only occasionally to church or to run errands? Or should I purge them? What would you do?
Here are more photos than you would ever want to see of my favorite outfit formula featuring the CARDIGAN in the starring role. Which look do you like best?
Your Turn
Are you a cardi girl? Or do you prefer your sweaters the pullover type? I like pullover sweaters, too, but don’t think they allow the same flexibility that a cardigan does. Not as likely to feel as if I can pull it off when I get hot. Which doesn’t happen often but you never know when a stray hot flash might hit.
Hope you will take a few minutes to visit the blogs of my stylish friends joining me for this edition of Ageless Style.

And then link up your favorite cardi look – or any fall look, for that matter, below.
My blog was about out of commission for a week or more and then one day I woke up, turned on the laptop and things were ‘fixed’ or fixed enough that I could post again. I simply do not understand how technology works. Do Not. Then today, I was deleting photos from my desktop and as fast as I would put them in the trash bin, they would reappear on my desk top. How does that happen? I spent several hours throwing out the same photos. No wonder I am half crazy!!
Thank you for putting up with my crazy and stopping by here in spite of it. Hoping to get back into some kind of blogging routine while my blog is cooperating again.
Hugs and kisses,

Hi Leslie – I’m a cardi girl – love them for the Aussie weather because the day can change from cool to warm and a cardi is easy to add or subtract (and very handy for when I was hot flashing every 5 mins!). Loved seeing your grandgirls in the pics and BTW I think the first linking blogger is wearing the same cardigan as you??? What a coincidence!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
LOL…Joanne and I did have on the same cardigan. It came in several colors…how funny we both choice the identical one and then featured it for our Ageless Style post. It is so softy. I fell in love at first touch!!
Aren’t cardigans just the best? I have a lot of longer ones but have embraced the new cropped cardis, too. I am equal opportunity!!
Deb
I’m part of the Cardigan Gang! I have them in various weights and lengths; they are so useful. All of mine are plain colours though and I’m wondering if I ‘need’ a colour block one after seeing how great you look in yours! You’re right about the need for pockets, my goodness don’t small children want to bring home lots of treasures when you are out and about?
Love your extra models too!
Bronwyn
I am definitely in ‘team cardigan’! I wear them all year round. Thickness of course depending on the weather. My current ‘cardi of choice’ is the shorter, cropped version. (We are currently in mid-spring here in Australia.) Enjoy reading your posts!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Aren’t the cropped cardis so much fun?? I have several of those, too. Maybe we should do a cropped cardi link up together!!??
Thank you for finding my blog and stopping by to say hi.
Joanne
I see we both featured the same cardigan. Too funny! Great minds must think alike. 🙂
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yay us!!
Kellyann Rohr
You look sensational! I love long cardis, so easy to style and they make everything a little more chic. Cute pics with the granddaughters, how full your heart must be.
I agree with the hair too – when I look back at my old photos I die over how awful my hair looked and I was PAYING for that – UGH. Growing it out has taken some time but is so much better.
xo,
Kellyann
Lisa
You look great in cardigans. I really love that last photo of you with the dress, cardi, and boots! I’m very hot natured so rarely wear sweaters of any kind but I do own two or three thin cardigans (from Target!).
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, sugar foot. I have always been very cold natured. Then menopause and I almost combusted!! Now days I am less perpetually chilly. I like layers so I can adjust.
mireille
Is your cardigan the same as Joanne? Great minds think alike! Loving the colors! I am actually not a cardigan girl as I don’t like how they typically look on me (I have learned the hard way) but I enjoy my waterfall cardigans and have several in that style.

Dara
I love cardigans. I somehow often forget to wear them though!
Amy Johnson
What a beautiful fall cardigan…I think you are twinning with JoAnne today!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you. We were twinning!! Completely accidental. But great minds, huh?
Marsha Banks
Oh, Leslie, the poses with your grands are the best! I almost wish mine were that small again, but I’m also enjoying them at the ages they are now? I love all of your cardigan pictures. I can’t even pick a favorite! Thanks for including me in this group!

Thank you!! How I love my grandbabies. My little ones are such but my 11 year old granddaughter is a delight, too. So glad you have joined us, Marsha.
Juhli
Your grandgirls are so cute and you look amazing in all the different outfits. I have to say the last one with a dress and cowboy boots is my favorite though!
Retirement Reflections
Hi, Leslie – We’ve had our first taste of quite cool autumn weather today. So your cozy cardi post is very timely. They all are gorgeous and look great on you. As a matter of fact, I’d like to borrow one of them right now! 😀
Leslie Roberts Clingan
We had a chillier day here today. PC was playing baseball and it was perfect weather for spectating. I am tickled that sweater weather has arrived.
Mica
You wear your cardis so well and I really like that colourblock one! I definitely wouldn’t get rid of the tops you say you don’t wear often, if you do still get wear from them now and then they sound like keepers 🙂
Hope you are having a great week 🙂
Leslie Roberts Clingan
This has been a good week!! My mama is doing well – knock on wood – and my blog is cooperating. Life is good. Thank you for reassuring me about keeping some of my tops that I don’t wear consistently. I have room in the closet and hate to get rid of them just for the sake of doing that. Maybe if I give them all another year and then reevaluate. Thank you!!
jodie filogomo
I do think that you and Joanne got together to twin today, haha!!!
And I know what you mean about pockets and our phones. I never used to use my back pocket on my jeans as much as I do now (except when we carried a comb in them in 7th grade).
I love that you showed a couple of versions today Leslie!!!

Thank you, Jodie. It was kind of fun to go back through my photos and see how many cardi outfits I had worn in the last couple of years. Truly my uniform of choice.
Gale Johnston
I’m so glad to see that you’re up and running again! YAY! And I am totally with you about the pockets. I love them in dresses, pants, and cardigans. And I do also LOVE cardigans! My favorite is a light grey cashmere hoodie. And yes, it has pockets. When I want cashmere, I look for it on sale. It’s still higher priced, but to me it’s totally worth it. So much warmer! I love the pictures of you with your sweet granddaughters!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oooo, gray cashmere sounds like a cloud. Or a lamb. So perfectly soft. Not sure I have ever had anything that was real cashmere. Maybe I should invest in one delicious piece. Thank you for the sweet words about my grands. We are both blessed with some pretty great babies.
Jill
Cardigans are part of my daily uniform year-round. The colors in your colorblock cardigan are perfect for fall. I think your lilac cardigan is a keeper! It’s such a pretty color! Love seeing your precious babies getting in on the action!

Technology is crazy and I do not understand it either. I have the same sweater and it is so soft and cozy. We should do a post together with them one day.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yes!! Let’s do a post with our twin sweaters!!
Bojana Krienke
Leslie I love this color block cardigan. I bet it goes well with so much and it’s it could easily double up as lightweight coat. I still love my ON rockstar skinny jeans too. Wear them all the time. Have a great weekend ahead.

Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Bo. Glad I am not the only one still wearing Rockstar skinnies. Kellyann at This Blonde’s Shopping Bag encouraged me to wear skinnier skinnies and I finally did. Now I don’t want to toss them!!
Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom
Your color block cardi is so pretty! I have one that has some pumpkin colors in it and I usually can’t wear it till November due to it always being warm here still in Sept. and Oct.! BUT, we are getting some cooler weather this week, YAY!! 🙂 I am a HUGE fan of cardi’s! I love to wear thin ones that are button down (but, I always wear them open) and I have several colors. I have some longer and thicker ones, too! That lilac colored one is so pretty!

Thank you, sugar foot. I never wear my cardis buttoned up either. But I like that look on others. It has been such a warm fall so far that I can’t comfortably wear cardis much yet. But sure looking forward cooler temps soon.
Iris Smale
I LOVE cardigans – and I want to sneak into your closet and steal the first two. I especially love the newer long ones – and of course with pockets. I’ve acquired a couple but still having trouble finding ones that I really like. Thanks for sharing yours.
Iris
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Iris. Try Target, if you have one close or can order online. I love this softy Target cardi. They had several color combos, too.
Laura Bambrick
That cardigan is perfect this time of year! I love the combination of fall colors. It’s a great piece!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you!! This cardi is so soft that it is almost like wearing a bathrobe!!
Daenel T.
Love seeing the pictures of the babies. So cute.
That color block cardi is so pretty. I’d wed it with everything all day long.
