Fashionistas and style sistas, welcome to My Fashion Haus 12.2020. Even though I haven’t shared a fashion post for some time I promise I have been wearing clothes around here. Most days those clothes look a whole lot like sweat pants, tees and tennies but at least I’m not running ’round ‘naked as a jay bird’ as my mom would say.
So when do I get dressed? Really dressed in real clothes? Just about any time I am leaving the house. To go grocery shopping or over the mountain to help with my babies or for doctor appointments, which seem to be the sum total of my social activities lately. Here’s what those outfits look like.

My Fashion Haus 12.2020: What I’m Wearing When I’m Not in Sweats
Some of the clothes I am wearing are items from the fall and winter capsule wardrobes put together by Alison at Get Your Pretty On. Over the Mountain Outfit #1
This is the outfit I wore most recently on a trip over the mountain to help with my granddaughters. Used this color block cardigan from Target as the starting place for putting this look together. I chose the orange, gray and maroon cardi but it comes in several other color combos. Also picked up this color block sweater from Old Navy as a color block sweater is one of the pieces in the winter capsule wardrobe.
My top looks purple but it is really maroon. Old Navy Rockstar super skinny gray jeans. Maroon suede booties. My pendant is a wire and gemstone tree of life that my PC gave me. And my gray hair coordinates well with my gray jeans!!
Do you find yourself matching your mask to your outfit? I do! Completed this look with an orange and rust plaid mask from Old Navy. Have you checked out their masks? Very cute with sizes, colors and prints for everyone in the fam.
Over the Mountain Outfit #2
Wore the outfit below to help tend babies on another day when I went over the mountain. My new SO plaid flannel shirt from Kohl’s was the piece I styled this look around. I like the colors. Not the traditional colors found in a lot of flannel shirts. Makes it more girly, I think.
Paired the shirt with my Old Navy high-waisted Rockstar super skinny cords and Merona olive utility vest from Target. The vest has a drawstring waist that makes it a little more fitted and feminine. My olive loafers are really comfy and kind to my feet. Before heading out the door, I added my olive utility jacket because the morning was brisk. Wound up taking it off once I got to the kids’ house.
While we do have winter weather in El Paso, the sun is almost always shining and warm. Vests and cardigans are usually enough of a wrap most days. Camel-colored wool overcoats like this one from Old Navy are popular this year. I would love to have one because I think they look really classy with jeans and pants. But I can hardly justify the purchase with our milder climate.
Post-Op Appointment Outfit
This next look made me happy!! I felt put together but comfortable. Had to go for my second post-op appointment after my parathyroid surgery in November. My incision is still a little swollen but the doctor decided not to drain the fluid-filled seroma. We will just see how it looks after 6 months. The surgery was successful…my parathyroid hormone and calcium levels are both within in normal ranges for the first time in years. My kidneys are happy!!
The centerpiece of this outfit was this festive plaid vest from Kohl’s. I rarely wear monochromatic looks but on this day, I started with one. Black H&M turtleneck and Loft Outlet (oh, I miss that store) black denim. Couldn’t decided whether to add color with one of my plaid blanket scarves or my new plaid vest. The vest won.
If you only check out one of the links I have provided, I hope it is this one for the vest. As of this writing, the vest is on sale, comes in 18 print/colors and 6 sizes. It is lightweight and not the least bit bulky. And has earned a 4.5 stars out of 5 from customers who purchased the vest. It can be cinched in the back to give the vest a narrower, waistier, hour-glass fit. I love mine and think I might need another one or two…the houndstooth is adorable!! Took my new DSW Abella Chloe peep toe booties out for their first spin, too.
Added a blingy statement necklace and Stella and Dot faux diamond stud earrings. And Fly Girl red lip color by Lipsense.
Just Getting Plain Crazy
On the morning of my doctor’s appointment, something crazy happened. Not sure if it was a full moon or what. But I was dressed and ready to go early!! Girls, that never happens. I am either right on time or fashionably late to everything. Decided to take advantage of the extra time and tried on several different options with my monochromatic black on black. Just couldn’t be early to my appointment.
Knew I was going to wear the vest for the day but wanted to try other pieces to keep in mind for future outfits.
Like Buffalo Plaid
Or a Plaid Blazer
Maybe a Little Leopard Kimono
An Aztec Print Poncho
Or a Boucle Tweed Jacket
Had to quit there before I missed my appointment completely. But discovered what a great foundation look a monochromatic outfit can provide.
Your Turn
What are you wearing these days when you aren’t wearing sweats? Do you wear monochromatic outfits often? Which of the looks above do you like best?
Beginning to think about what blogging at Once Upon a Time & Happily Ever After will look like in 2021. Hope to get back (back??) to a schedule for blogging. Would like to do more book reviews. Continue 10 on the 10th, Sentence a Day and my seasonal bucket lists. Will be teaming up with the ladies for another year of Where Bloggers Live. And have some new collaborations in the works that I am super excited about.
Would love to invite you to tell me which posts you enjoy most by voting below.

Before you go, in the spirit of the season, I am sponsoring a fundraiser for my friend and NICU nurse Kathryn. She creates amazing photo booths and costumes for her tiny patients each season all out of the goodness of her heart and own pocketbook. Many of these babies live in the NICU for months, and proud parents don’t have same opportunities for first photos that parents with healthy babies have. I was so blessed to have 2 healthy babies, and now 3 healthy grandbabies. I am honored to help Kathryn bring some holiday happiness to these less fortunate families.
Won’t you help me, too? Click here to access the Go Fund Me page for your donation. Thank you so much!
Holiday hugs and kisses,

About the voting, I absolutely love all your posts! None favored over the others…Each subject area is a delight. Your writing is filled with charm, emotion, and personality, which bespeaks of a good writer.
Thank you so much!! What a kind comment. So glad you find something that keeps you reading here on my silly blog. Happy holidays!!
We are braced for a huge winter storm coming our way. I wear a lot of fleece lined leggings with turtle necks and sweaters and boots.
I prefer wearing yoga pants and sweats right now because the jeans (and bras) are tight. But will get on that in one more week.
Very stylish! I’ve seen a few people wearing that colour block cardigan on the GYPO Facebook page and it looks fab on everyone – and what a bargain price too!
Love every single one of the looks that you showcased at the end, what a versatile base for outfits – perfect!
I just love the festive vest, it gets me in the holiday spirit! That leopard kimono is also cute! I try to match my mask to my outfit, but sometimes I can’t find one that will match perfectly. I have a lot of masks with floral prints, so sometimes it is more that the floral print doesn’t go with the mask. I think they’re all floral, because I bought a bunch of masks back in the Spring and now here we are in December and we are still wearing them (who would have thought?!). lol. Merry Christmas, Leslie!

Merry Christmas, Carrie!! I really like matching my mask to my outfit, but it is hard to find the perfect match. have to do some clever pattern mixing at times.
I always love seeing what you’re wearing, you do a great job dressing! How fun that you got to play on the day of your doctor’s visit! I like all of the ways you topped off the black, you have a great selection of jackets and toppers. And you look great in your Rockstars!!!
xo,
Kellyann
Thank you, darling friend, for persuading me to try the Rockstars. Love them. And think of you every time I wear a pair.
You are so stylish! I love the long cardigan. 🙂 I’m glad to hear everything is going well after your surgery.
Love the vests! I can’t vote in your poll because I like all of your posts!
Cute outfits. I do love a good vest. I’ve been wearing more “actual” clothes lately. I pretty much always have a nicer shirt – the bottom just tends to be comfy. haha
-Lauren
Good for you to be getting dressed. If you need any vests, check Kohl’s. Great prices and lots of cute colors and prints!!
Ha! I have still not tried to match my mask with my outfit. I wear “active wear” (sweatpants) around the house and I am leaving the house less and less these days. It was good to see you in your *real* clothes. You have inspired me to get dressed up every once in a while. Even if it’s just my husband who will see me!
Laurie, I think my husband wonders what I’ve been up to when he comes home to find me dressed!! Keeps him hopping!!
What are real clothes. When I go shopping now, I just wear joggers. I’ve really given up on life – LOL
I hate I could only vote for 4 things in your blogging survey… I had like 6.
Aww, sweet friend, thank you. Glad there are a number of posts that you like on my blog. I am so hot and cold with this blogging thing. One minute, I feel so fully committed to blogging and other times I wonder if there is a reason for me to continue. I want to blog but I want it to be meaningful. Is that silly?
I can relate so much to your blogging situation! I’ve been blogging since 2008, but with social media and the desire to read in short sentences became the norm, I felt like I was writing to an empty auditorium. And yet…..I feel like it’s where I’ve made some of the best friends for years! Something keeps me coming back and writing. I hope we can get back to reading blogs and digging a little deeper with one another.
Hi Debbie, so glad to meet you. Not sure how you found my blog but grateful that you did and that you left me a comment so I could reciprocate!
When I retired from my beloved career as an elementary librarian, I lost all of my social interactions. None of my friends were of age to retire. So my first year of retirement, I was very lonely. In fact, I started subbing just to be back in a school situation and around children again. It has been seven years since I retired and I am happily adjusted to being home but still get lonely. Wish I had a walking pal or someone to craft with.
I am headed over to your blog to get to know more about you!!
I love your outfits! Your vest is so pretty! I STILL haven’t really gotten dressed up in a while! My uniform right now is legging and a cozy sweatshirt!! Have a great day!
Leggings and sweatshirts for the win!! I wear them both most days. But any outing or errand is an excuse to brush my hair and put on something different. Thank you for coming by and leaving such a sweet compliment.
Love the long sweater. Those have turned into my favorites this year. I have a very similar vest to yours, don’t wear it much. Maybe I should try that.

Grab that vest, Iris, and give it another go. Yesterday the outfit of the day was an exercise in pattern mixing. Striped turtleneck under a plaid blouse. And a vest on top of the two. It was really the perfect weight for our winter weather. Didn’t know what I thought about the stripes and plaid together at first. But decided I really like it.
Long cardigans are my favorites, too. I have a closet full of shorter ones and keep thinking I need to give them away but they work better with dresses most of the time. I just rarely wear dresses any more.
I missed that you had surgery… I had a complete thyroidectomy years ago. My hormones are normal but still working on the weight thing. Will you have to take synthroid?
That cardigan is cute. The colors are all perfectly neutral.
Hey!! No, no synthroid. Since my issues were with my parathyroid and not my thyroid, I don’t have to take anything. Hoping I will lose some weight now because I am feeling more energetic and optimistic about life.
So many cute looks! I especially love the plaid looks. You definitely got dressed up more than I did this month. I think I only wore real clothes one time to go shopping otherwise I’ve been living in activewear.
Amy, I hope we both have more occasions to get dressed in the new year. Our church is having a candlelight service on the 24th and I would love to go but still feel so apprehensive about being in a big group of folks.
Happy Holidays Leslie!
I love that you bought the same colorblock cardi as I bought for my sister for Christmas! I think it looks great on you and you rock those Rockstar jeans! They are among my fav jeans from Old Navy too. Not going anywhere by grovery shopping and doc appts, I know what you mean! I just bought some Lou and Grey joggers and they are soft for lounging, which I what I wear around the house. Love the plaids on you too, I always loved plaid! Glad you are feeling better after your parathyroid surgery! Did I tell you my husband had that surgery a few years ago? Do you find you have more energy now?
Have a great weekend!

Hi Jess, interesting to learn that your husband had parathyroid surgery. I think I do have more energy now! It has been about 6 weeks and I am sleeping better, feeling more energetic and hoping that there will still be more improvement. Kellyann introduced me to the Old Navy Rockstar jeans and I have been forever thankful!!
I get dressed up every time I leave the house, even if it’s just to got to the mailbox, lol. All of these outfits are fabulous and I especially love your plaid vest, leopard kimono, and Aztec poncho! I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!
Jill – Doused in Pink
Merry Christmas to you, my friend. We have to take advantage of every opportunity – even checking the mail or getting gas – to get dressed these days. I am super excited that we might be going to see a MOVIE on Christmas. I might do 2 wardrobe changes that day. Ha!
Leslie, you look fabulous in all of these fun outfits! I am loving the plaids and the color blocked pieces. I have been trying to get dressed in festive clothing this month even if it is leggings and a cozy sweater…accessories are my best options for keeping myself looking styled and not so loungey! Thanks for joining the Stylish Monday link up! I wish you many blessings this holiday season!
