Shutterbugs and photo-lovin’ friends glad to have you join me for The World Through My Lens 05.2021. Today I am sharing my snapshots for both of the photo series my blogging buddy Terri at Second Wind Leisure Perspectives. Terri hosts the one-prompt-a-week Sunday Stills photo challenge . Also teaming up with my friend Lysha at A Camera and a Cookbook for today’s post. Lysa gives us 5 prompts each week and shares her own photos with an iSPY link up on Saturdays.
The World Through My Lens 05.2021
You might remember that once a month I share my photos for the Sunday Stills photo challenge with Terri at Second Wind Leisure Perspectives. Sadly (at least for me), the last photo post I created got ‘disappeared’ during my blog facelift. It featured the remainder of my photos for the Winter Photo Scavenger Hunt with Mary Lou and Ellen, a week of iSpy photos and a month of pictures for the Sunday Stills challenge. I was so frustrated when I realized that post was lost. But you can find my last successfully published photo post, here.
iSPY PHOTO CHALLENGE 05.2021
So, today, I am hoping to share photos for the last 2 weeks of Lysha’s iSpy challenge. Hoping because you never know what’s going to happen when I am at the wheel!!
iSpy #18
I have an ongoing battle with our mailman. Until recently, I could never be sure that my mail was going to be put in my mail box. Have had so many misdelivered packages. Likewise, I have received mail for so many other people in my neighborhood. It is really, really frustrating. But things have been a little better lately. Knock on wood.
The photo for this prompt features my keychain suspended from our mailbox door, as I peer into the box to see what and whose goodies we have received today.
How You Feel Today
Lately, I feel like I am always on the verge of tears. We have a lot of stuff going on. That’s life, I know. But the worry about my mom is constant. My PC’s health has been troublesome. Lauren is going to have to have a heart procedure next month. This is a photo of Cami taken at breakfast the other morning as we were scrambling to get both girls dressed, fed and their hair fixed for school. She is teary for other reasons but the expression on her face represents how I am feeling on any given day.
Reduce-Reuse-Recycle
In this month’s 10 on the 10th post, I wrote about 10 things I dislike to do. One of the items on my list was attempting to figure out what can be recycled and what can’t. We received this handy dandy guide in the mail but I still have so many questions. I’m really trying, though.
Shoot from the Hip
Not sure if I did this right. I put the camera at my hip but I could still see what I was shooting. When I pushed the button to snap the picture, I just hoped the camera didn’t wiggle so much that photo would be blurry. Turned out pretty well. Maybe I should employ this technique more often!!

While we were visiting Kentucky last month, PC and I took a few minutes to wander about the gardens at Waveland Historic Museum. It was delightful to immersed in all the green that filled the grounds. Blooming dogwood trees, wildflowers, moss and ferns and the thickest green lawn. Things I miss about ‘back home’ where I grew up because we now live in the desert southwest. Even birds of every color. Spotted this red bird balanced on a the sleek trunk of this dead tree. He was very cooperative to allow me to sneak up close enough to snap several photos.
Selfie (Spring) – quarterly pic
A few weekends ago, we stopped in the Lucky Brand store where PC commented on an outfit he really like on a female mannequin…dark wash, button fly jeans and a crisp, white button up shirt. Simple but classic. I tried on the jeans in the largest size I ever wear and they were so tight I couldn’t button them. So I came home and tried to recreate the look with clothes in my closet. Didn’t get any reaction from my Prince. But will use one of the pictures I took in my outfit to satisfy this prompt.
Nuts
PC and I love nuts. All kinds. My favorites are probably peanuts and cashews. He like cashews and English walnuts. We eat them with such great gusto that it is hard to keep them in the house. So I improvised for this prompt.
Sticker
Was thinking more along the lines of a thorn or sticker on a plant when I originally read this prompt. However, one morning this week, eyed these stickers among Lucia’s art supplies.
Blue
Christin Apodaca, a local mural artist has been sharing your talent on the walls of our outlet mall. She is very talented and is really jazzing things up out there. This is one of her latest creations.

Took this photograph while on a recent walk at the reservoir along the foot of the Franklin Mountains near home. Not sure what this flowering bush is…anyone else know? But it just grows wild in the desert. And is beautiful despite our near drought conditions. We rarely have clouds in the sky but on this early evening the clouds gave us a short-lived hope for some rain.
Sunday Stills 05.2021
Have missed joining Terri for this photo challenge. Taking pictures has become one of my favorite hobbies. When I am not participating in a challenge, I lose my enthusiasm for photography because I don’t know what to do with the pictures I am taking!! Glad to be back.
05.02.2021 Water: Swimming class
Water is in very short supply ’round these parts. Caught this very bossy duck giving swimming instruction at our man-made Ascarate Lake last weekend. She was scolding and correcting the form of her proteges the entire time I watched them. Was transported back to my days of swimming lessons – my last session during the summer between 7th and 8th grade. With an instructor who was a boy about my age. Talk about embarrassing.
05.09.2021 Weather: Rainstorm
While we were in Ohio and Kentucky last month, we were treated to a few rain showers. You might remember from my 10 on the 10th post this month my disdain for driving in the rain, and driving at night, and driving at night in the rain. I was driving from Lexington to Dayton when this rainstorm blew up. Couldn’t get out of the driver’s seat fast enough!! You’ll be relieved to know I wasn’t driving when I snapped this pic.
05.16.2021 Monthly Color Challenge: Gray
We finally had rain here in El Paso. We are more than 3″ below normal with less than an inch so far in 2021. Which explains why the Rio Grande is bone dry!! I shot this photo from our neighborhood park looking back toward the subdivision and Franklin Mountains. The original photo was gray but this Femme filter on Prisma enhanced the gray.
05.23.2021 Favorite Vacation Spot
The beach. Favorite beach…so far? Cancun.
Ahhh, it felt good to share the world through my lens 05.2021. Wish there was some widget or gadget I could add to my blog that would allow you to share a photo in a comment below. Would like to see a glimpse into your world, too.
Thank you for coming by. We have a busy weekend with baseball and a massage and my spring bucket list activity – the taco run on Saturday and church and swimming on Sunday. Hope you have some fun planned for your days off.
Hugs and kisses,
Deb
I think your rain is over here, I will gladly send it back to you 😉
The photo that surprised me was the mail box. I never realised you have to leave your house to get your post! We have letter box holes in our front doors over here, I can’t tell you how excited Coco gets when she hears the post drop on our door mat!
Sorry to hear you have much to make you tearful, it seems like there is a lot going on in your family. Will be good to have L’s procedure done so that will be one thing less to have on your worry list.
Take care x
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Please, please send the rain back!! We are so behind in precipitation.

Hi Leslie, I caught this in time to share the link on my post this morning for favorite vacation spot! I know the frustration of dealing with new technology. We have not had internet in our home since we moved here in March. We have fiber optics but the provider can’t construct it to the house for months out yet. I ended up going with another through satellite. You make a great point about having prompts to guide you in your photography. Funny, I take pics of everything and sometimes that gives me ideas for the next themes! Your photos are lovely and I hope you start to feel in control soon with all that is going on around you. Take good care my friend!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you so much for the sweet words. I bet you are getting frustrated waiting for the Internet out your way. When we had our house built, we couldn’t get Internet or cable for a bit. Made for long days!!
We have all had a good week in my world. Thank you. Just takes a good day or two to breathe new wind in my sails.
Juhli
You take great photos. Where do you find the prompts?
So sorry you have so many worries making you teary though.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Come do the summer scavenger hunt with us!! You can take photos while you recuperate. Will email you the info.
Joanne
I love the perspective on your mailbox! Our mail gets delivered OK but we get packages that often do not belong to us but most of us on our road are so used to it that we just take the packages where they need to go now. You did a great job with all your captures.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you. I liked the mailbox photo, too. It was kind of fun.

Well that photo of Cami is precious even though she isn’t happy – she is a beautiful baby. Sweet friend, you have a lot on your plate right now and I am sorry about that, cry if you need to – it is okay. I’m keeping you in my prayers, you have a heart of gold!
xo,
Kellyann
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you for the friendship and prayers. Can’t tell you how much it meant to hear you and Shelly talk about caring for our elderly parents. So reassuring that we are not alone.

These are all great pictures!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Gracias!! I love taking photos. And I know you do, too!!

Stickers!!!!! I never grow too old for them.
That teary sad face… pitiful… & PRECIOUS
Love all the pics – especially that selfie of that beautiful face!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, beautiful you. I am taking baby steps using stickers on my agenda. And I think of you every time I stick one down!!
Jennifer
Love your selfie…you go girl!! And that photo of a rainstorm…great picture!! Sorry things have been hard lately – and teary. Praying for you mama – and for you as you are much farther away than you would like!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I appreciate your friendship and prayers for my mama and me!! That means so much.

These are some great images, especially the one that looks monochrome!
Feel free to share at My Corner of the World

Thank you so much for coming by. I am adding your blog to my Feedly feed. Glad to meet a fellow photography enthusiast.

I could look at your photos all day. I haven’t used my Digital SLR camera in years. Not even sure it works anymore. Last time I got it out it was so dusty, I know I’d have to get it cleaned before I could even try to use it. But your pictures sure spark the photographer’s desire in me!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
You are so sweet. Thank you. I have about stopped using my DSLR. Never did use it much. Just doesn’t make much sense when our phones are always at our sides if not in our hands, and so much smaller and easier to use. Come do the Summer Photo Scavenger Hunt with us. Going to email you.

Leslie I am sorry to hear that you are in situations that make you teary, I do hope that they resolve soon, all with positive outcomes. Maybe to cheer you just a bit, the SPSH 2021 list is up on my blog now & I do hope you join in with us again this year.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, sweet Mary-Lou. We have had a good week over here. And I have been snapping pictures for SPSH!! Thank you for the heads up!

You’re quite the photographer, Leslie. Thanks for sharing the world through your lens. I truly enjoyed it. The photo from your walk and the impressive clouds particularly jumped out at me…and the shot from the hip turned out great. I feel for you on the mail situation. We have a neighbor one street over that has the exact house number and a similar street name. Our mail delivery person seems to have it figured out, but deliveries of other sorts often go to the wrong house. We’re always exchanging packages with the neighbor…and once a young man came to our door to pick up his prom date! I’m afraid he was a little disappointed with his options at our house. Sending lots of love for your mom, hubby, and daughter for good health and quick healing. And, of course, love to you for peace of mind through it all.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
LOL…hilarious!! We have had a lot of things delivered to the wrong address but never a prom date!! Our mail situation has improved. I think we have a new mail person. Prayers answered.
Thank you for the good thoughts for my family. This has been a good week and everyone seems to be feeling above average. My sister is visiting my mom so for a few days I can relax a little knowing someone else is there with her.
Laurie
You are such an imaginative and creative photographer. So sorry your post got lost in the blog changes. Technology can be so frustrating! Your little granddaughter is precious, even if she is teary. I hope your hard times work themselves out. Bless you for caring for your mother. You will never regret it. The photo you took on your recent walk is beautiful. You live in a gorgeous place!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
And YOU are so sweet!! Technology can be so frustrating. And at times, so can life. But we are having a good week in my family. Thank you!!
Bojana Krienke
I absolutely love and feel so inspired when I see your photo challenges. It always reminds me that I do want to take my camera out but honestly there are just not enough hours in my days to do all the things I’d like to explore. Sigh. Oh well it just means there are many things I love to do and want to explore over time.
I am really sorry to read about your family health troubles. That’s very scary and I truly empathize with you. Walking around with worry and anxiety is mental and emotionally exhausting and definitely takes a toll on a person. I know you are a great support for many of your family and I hope you also have many nearby people who you can lean on as well.
Hugs.

I have a big camera that I beat myself up for not using. But it is so much handier to use our phones! So I need to accept that fact and carry on. I have so many things I love to do but also have a fear of messing things up. Not painting well, or doing the same old thing on my scrapbook pages. Sometimes I paralyze myself and can’t enjoy crafting just because I expect too much and have such high expectations. Terrible.
Thank you for the hugs. We are having a good week so life is brighter right now. When my mama is good, everything else falls into place.
Marsha
Your photos are lovely, Leslie. I’m a little distracted by the Corona viruses falling from the top of the screen, but your pictures are still gorgeous, especially your little one with the sour face. 🙂 There is a way to share a picture in a comment. If you go into your media files and click on the picture you want to share then click edit, you will see a title, alt text, caption, description, and if you scroll down, you will see the location of that picture in WordPress. You copy that link and paste it into your comment. Then you erase the s in https, and then you can share your photo. I’ll see if it works here. http://tchistorygal.files.wordpress.com/2021/05/sunday-stills-vacay-lapc-green-blue100.jpg.

Oh, my, Marsha…so glad to know how you can include a photo in a comment. Thank you for sharing that info. And it did work.
Glad to meet you. I am a history gal…informally, at least. I enjoy studying and reading history. Will stop by your blog to check out your lovely photography. Thank you for stopping by.
