Fashionistas, welcome to My Fashion Haus where I am coming to you with a trendy classic copycat look from Alison’s February Pretty Fix post. Trendy classic is Alison’s description. And she goes on to say that description seems like an oxymoron. A classic piece being something that withstands the test of time. Timeless. A trendy piece being a flash in the pan. Something that takes the fashion world by storm then just as quickly disappears.
It’s been a month or so since I last opened my fashion haus. Keep saying I am going to open it more and then LIFE. But when I saw Alison’s February Pretty Fix, below, I was inspired.

When I saw this outfit, I knew I could easily replicate it with pieces in my closet. Had the black trench after falling in love with the one Jennifer Lawrence wore in “Silver Linings Playbook.” Distressed skinnies, check. My bright flats didn’t match my bright bag so I subbed in heels that did. The only thing that I was lacking was a houndstooth blouse. Enter H&M.

The Pieces in My Trendy Classic Copycat Look
The classic part of this fashion equation is the black trench and the trendy is the houndstooth blouse. Even though houndstooth is a classic print. It is trending right now. You can find it in on sweaters, blouses, dresses, skirts, jumpers and trousers.
Black Trench
I bought my black trench (similar, similar) several years ago on sale at Kohls. Haven’t worn it a lot because it attracts Purrsimmony and Purrsnickity fur like a giant magnet. My coat is belted. But I wore this look while we were on our Phoenix getaway and forgot to pack the belt.
Houndstooth Blouse
My houndstooth blouse is similar to this one from H&M. But there are so many different inexpensive versions of this trending piece. Like this Milan Kiss mixed media blouse with the flirty shoulders, or this Nine West bow blouse. This Diane Von Furstenberg chiffon blouse with ruffled cuffs is a stretch for my budget but is especially lovely.
Bright Shoes
Instead of wearing my bright pink flats, I chose to pack my L’Artiste Christmas shoes (exact, similar). Gifts from PC.
Here’s how it all came together.
Dressing for a Dinner Date
I wore this outfit for our dinner date to Lakeside Grill Estrella while we were in Arizona last weekend. PC really liked my trendy classic copycat look. He didn’t even fuss about taking pictures!!
I had pinned my hair up with a clip but let it down. It has grown so much but not enough to have grown all of the color off yet!!
Paul has been very supportive as I have returned to my natural color. I predict by the end of the summer, most of those highlights from last spring will be grown out and gone.
Wasn’t it nice for Luke Air Force Base, where we stayed in their billeting facility, to have vintage planes on display that matched my trendy classic copycat look?
Lakeside Grill Estrella
The restaurant where we dined was actually a grill situated in a subdivision of big family homes. It belonged to the subdivision. Along with the pool and mini-water park adjoining the restaurant. The lake is probably city property. But it was a very pretty venue for our dinner.
PC had steak and I had salmon with a curried cashew sauce. In honor of my birthday boy, we indulged with a bottle of Moscato.
We enjoyed the evening and I felt perfectly dressed for the occasion. Thank you, Alison, for being my personal stylist!!
Your Turn
Have you jumped on the houndstooth band wagon? If so, in what piece of clothing are you wearing this trending print? I am thinking this blouse would work really well with my faux leather skirts from H&M, too. Might need to try this for date night this coming weekend.
Good news, girls…registration for Alison’s Get Your Pretty On spring capsule wardrobe will open on 03.12.2020.

Isn t it great to copy cat a look! I love to do so because I so often get inspired by other bloggers.it s a lovely look! And a great dinner!
Deb
That is a great outfit – and perfect for your date night!
It is good to get inspiration from other bloggers, it makes you look at what you have in your own wardrobe and put things together that normally you wouldn’t think of doing.

Your recreation was a hit! Job well done and I am sure your PC was happy to have such a hottie on his arm! I got low lights in my hair last week and my husband is not a fan, ha! That’s okay, he’s going very grey and I’m not a huge fan of that look on him either – but who asked! Oh the toils of appearance.
Glad you two had a nice night out – I love Moscato!

Yay!! So glad you are liking the capsules. I just think Alison has made it so much easier for me to get dressed. And I like the things in my closet. I have about finished my closet clean out. My trip to mom’s kept me from tying it all up but will do that this week.
Juhli

That is a very cute and classic outfit!! I really need to go shopping… I have barely bought a thing for myself in the five years since I had my son! And my wardrobe shows it. LOL.
It looks like you had a wonderful evening!

Houndstooth is just one of those patterns I love and it always look so great with pops of red. This look is adorable on you. The plane photo is just stunning. Good luck with growing out your highlights! My stylist was sick (boo!) this last weekend, so I am going in a few weeks. You and PC are def. enjoying that meal and bottle of wine! Delish!

Thank you, sweet friend. I am on the lookout for the perfect spring/summer bag. Hope I can find one that just screams my name and is affordable, too!!
Laura Bambrick
You look fabulous in this outfit! I really like the heels you wore with it and made it your own. I love that you got Moscato at dinner. It’s my favorite wine and a perfect indulgence!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, sweet friend. Oh, we are all about some Moscato over here. PC buys wine by its high sugar and alcohol content!! He would just as soon drink syrup!
Kristin
I love your look! I actually like it better than the original outfit…I think it’s definitely something I would wear. And it sounds like the perfect date night.
Iris
