Shutterbugs and photo-lovin’ friends glad to have you join me for The World Through My Lens 06.2021. Today I am sharing my snapshots for June editions of the photo series my blogging buddy Terri at Second Wind Leisure Perspectives. Terri hosts the one-prompt-a-week Sunday Stills photo challenge .
Also teaming up with my friend Lysha at A Camera and a Cookbook for today’s post. Lysa gives us 5 prompts each week and shares her own photos with an iSPY link up on Saturdays. And happy to be joining Mary-Lou at PatioPostcards and friends for the summer photo scavenger hunt (SPSH). This is our first SPSH share for the season. Come join me for one or all!!
The World Through My Lens 06.2021
Taking pictures has become one of my favorite hobbies. When I am not participating in a challenge, I lose my enthusiasm for photography because I don’t know what to do with the pictures I am taking!! Glad to be participating in all 3 challenges this summer.
SUNDAY STILLS 06.2021
You might remember that once a month I share my photos for the Sunday Stills photo challenge with Terri at Second Wind Leisure Perspectives. You can visit some of my previous photography posts here and here.
06.06.2021 Celestial
I love this shot. If I do say so myself. As you probably know since I say it all the time, green is my favorite color. The green of the park almost glows in the street lights and moonlight. My shots of just the moon that evening were pretty but this contrast spoke to me more.
06.13.2021 Monthly Color Challenge: Pink
Check out this BBQ-mobile!! I came across it at the ball park on Saturday where they were also having a car show with food trucks and, apparently a BBQ-mobile.
06.20.2021 Sunrise or Sunset
This is the view looking south out toward Mexico and New Mexico from the end of Lauren’s street. The peaks on the far left are actually dormant volcanoes.
06.27.2021 Great Outdoors
We are knee-deep in monsoon season here in far west Texas. Currently at 4.21″ of the rain for the year…2″ above normal!! And most of that has fallen in the past week. I snapped this photo after driving over the mountain to help with the girls this morning. The low hanging clouds were eerily beautiful.

From my Bible journaling. Psalm 51:10 KJV: 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

For mama to return with dinner. Waiting ’til their feathers come in to fly the coop.

The design in this building on Ft. Bliss incorporates the use of triangles.

The casa de azucar or house of sugar is a point of local interest in El Paso. I have always wanted to spend some time appreciating and photographing the intricacies of this gift of love created by a husband for his wife. This weekend a road closure had us detour onto the road that runs beside the sugar house. I quick rolled down my window and snapped a few shots. Used a bit of editing fun to highlight the pink section of the wall around the house.

We have a couple of tricks we use to make our almost daily walks more fun. We toss a rubber baseball between us. Or kick a soccer ball back and forth. Or bounce a basketball to each other. Sometimes we are lucky enough to find the basketball court in our neighborhood park empty and we can play a little HORSE (or cat, in our case). Makes it feel less like exercise.

advertising
Anyone remember the Highway Beautification Act of the 1960s? It was the pet project of Lady Bird Johnson, wife of President Lyndon Johnson. The Act called for “control of outdoor advertising, including removal of certain types of signs, along the Nation’s growing Interstate System and the existing Federal-aid primary system.” [source]
The prevalence of billboards and signs along El Paso roadways and highways leads me to believe the act is no longer regarded. By the way, can you tell what these signs are advertising without zooming in for a closer look? They are real estate agents…but if you couldn’t read English, you’d never know. Why do real estate agents plaster their profiles on for sale signs and ads?
delicious
Chocolate chip cookie dough blizzard…just the right amount of melty.

This is Fluff. I will be sharing more about this kitty in another post. You are loved, my sweets.

My beautiful daughter Lauren trying on her wedding dress and veil. This picture was taken back in 2012 in our bedroom a few weeks before the big day.

This is not a lake or even a pond…it is rain run off from the mountain!! Looks pretty lake-like, huh?

hardware
Had stopped at Lowe’s for a lantana for the rock garden in the backyard. Realized what better place to snap a shot of hardware than the country’s favorite hardware store.
stairs
Baby stairs for little ones. To potty by, to brush teeth from.
stick
Walk softly and carry a big stick. Or in PC’s case a big bat. His batting average for the season so far is .580. The El Paso Yankees have this weekend off but will be back on the diamond next weekend.
purple
Really wanted to find something unique for this prompt but if you see a photo of a flowering plant below, you’ll know I wasn’t successful. But isn’t this flower pretty?

Soooo, this is what hail and rain look like!! It has been a minute since we had seen any of either form of precipitation. Until last week, that is. And since last Sunday, we’ve had both.

- #2 favorite time of day – would have to say morning is my favorite time of day. Quiet time, breakfast, planning the day ahead.
- #10 the delivery van/truck making deliveries – my BFF Sharon is the most generous soul I know. She is always sending me packages to warm my heart and brighten my day. Caught a photo of the UPS truck after the drier rang my doorbell to alert me that he was leaving a surprise from Sharon on my porch.
- #19 steps, but who’s counting – a new subdivision is being built down the street from us and we like to walk through the houses on our nightly walks. Snapped pictures of one of the larger, nicest houses and sent to Brennyn wishing she could be enticed to move home to El Paso.

If you live in the U.S., happy 4th of July weekend. Hope there is some red, white and blue in your plans for the holiday. God bless America.
Hugs and kisses,

Hi, Leslie! Loved all of your pictures, but my favorite takeaway from this post was how you and your husband take a ball with you on your walks to make it more fun. What a great idea! Love that!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, Gale, try the ball bouncing when you guys head out for a walk. It does make it so much more fun!! We started with the small rubber baseball but graduated to bouncing a basketball back and forth because it is much easier for old, tired eyes to see!!
Retirement Reflections
These shots are exceptional, Leslie. I especially like your first Celestial shot and the shot of Lauren in her wedding veil. Very impressive!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Donna. I played around a little with the veil photo, trying to dark the background behind Lauren so the veil was the focal point. Then my sister introduced me to a program or app where you can completely remove a background!! I need to get comfortable using it.
Nancy s Fashion Style
Many very beautiful photos! Especially of the mountains! I hope you had a fabulous 4th!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you!! Our 4th was very nice except for the illegal fireworks being shot off all night in our neighborhood.
Juhli
You are getting a lot of rain and wish you could send some to us!
Great collection of photos as usual. Thanks for sharing them.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I am so thankful for our rain. We needed it desperately. Hope you get some, too. Thank you for the sweet words on my photos. I sure enjoy the photography.
Joanne
Lots of great photos! I like to take part in challenges too because they keep me motivated to snap away and help me look at my photos in a whole different perspective. Regardless of the fact that I seem to have a package on the stoop nearly every day I have yet to snap a picture of the delivery van! They rarely come into our yard and I can’t hear the truck from the house if they stay in the road.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hahaha!! Your delivery man must be very stealth!!
Deb
Wonderful photos! You really do have an eye for a great picture. I love that ‘house of sugar’, it’s so pretty.
Terri Webster Schrandt
I am always so happy to see your end of month posts for Sunday Stills, Leslie! Oh that celestial shot of the moonlit park is, well…celestial in every way! I’m glad you have photo challenges to inspire your fab photography! Crazy about all the monsoon rain you are getting. Send some up our way, please. Wildfires are already starting, one was just 2 miles away but over the ridge. Closed down the highway for a couple of hours while pontoon planes dipped into the nearby lake and dropped it on the flames. I hope you had a wonderful Independence Day weekend!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, friend. I am so sorry you are having drought and fires. We have had most unseasonable rain but I am thankful for it.
Mary-Lou Burma
Leslie thanks for joining in SPSH. You have some good finds to start the search off. I like your mug that you use for your daily morning bible read.
Dara
These are all great. I love the celestial and the stairs!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you. It is hard for me to get a good shot of the beauty in the sky. The stars, the moon, the sunrises and sunsets never live up to the way they look with the naked eye.
Cindy Anderson
Great photos! I especially liked Fluff. And your daughter’s veil! She’s beautiful! And that blizzard, oh my! The Oreo blizzard is my favorite! Have a wonderful week!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you. Thank you for the sweet compliment on my Lauren.
I will take a blizzard in any flavor. So good. This weekend we tried rolled ice cream. Also yummy.
klara
wonderful selection.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you so much!! I am enjoying photography these days.
