Welcome fashionistas,
Sweepin’ out the dust bunnies and cob webs in my fashion haus today so that I can share some of my versions of outfits from the fall capsule wardrobe. Have enjoyed playing dress up along side all of the other participants in Get Your Pretty On’s Fall 2018 Capsule Wardrobe. We have a private Facebook group where we post pics of the day’s outfit, offer support to one another and share sales alerts on items from the shopping list. It is great fun to see everyone’s individual ‘take’ on an outfit formula. Some of the girls are so creative in ways to make an outfit their own.
Fall 2018 Capsule Wardrobe
Have included some affiliate links for some of the pieces I am wearing or items that are similar. I earn a few pennies when a reader visits a link. Thank you for you clicking and window shopping my links.
Day 2
The formula for this day were distressed jeans + white tee + striped fly-away or waterfall cardi + athleisure shoes.
The pieces for this outfit were all shopped from my closet. Loft distressed jeans (similar, similar) + Loft Outlet white tee + Dress Barn Roz & Ally gray cardigan + Skechers metallic slip-on shoes (exact, similar). I have since ordered this striped cardigan and this pair of maroon athleisure shoes.
We always do 2 rounds of the outfits so I will have my striped waterfall cardigan and maroon shoes to wear for the second round of Day 2.
Day 3
The ingredients for the third day was olive bottoms + burgundy blouse + taupe ankle boots.
Wore my Loft Outlet olive skinny cropped jeans + Loft Outlet maroon blouse (similar, similar)+ Bandolino metallic leopard flats (similar, similar). I wore my leopard loafers instead of taupe booties. Hard for me to get excited about wearing boots or even booties when it is still close to 100* out!
I am not crazy about these pants for several reasons. Number one, they aren’t a true olive color, and B) they don’t have a very flattering fit. Need to find a pair I like better because real olive green is one of my top favorite greens to wear!
Day 6
Today’s outfit equation was olive bottoms + white tee + camo scarf + long black cardigan + metallic shoes. Alison shared the shopping info for a darling olive skirt but it was a wee bit too wee for me! Wish I could find an affordable one in a longer length.
I cuffed the same olive pants from Day 3 with this outfit and liked them a little better. Still want some new olive denim, though. My scarf was more green leopard than camo, ha! This is the camo scarf Alison styled in the sample for today’s look but it is beyond my budget. A lot of the gals in the challenge have purchased and styled this one from Gap. Love the other colors in it that complement my beloved olive green. My black cardigan is from H&M (exact, similar). I liked the relaxed fit, long length and soft feel of the fabric. Before the temps cool off (surely they will sooner or later!), I wanted to wear my black cork wedges one more time.
Day 7
The Fall 2018 Capsule Wardrobe only has one dress on the shopping list – a midi-length wrap dress in a floral print on a black background. Today’s formula was print dress + a neutral cardigan + gray riding boots.
My dress (exact, similar) is from Nordstrom online. Really like it but need to add a hook and eye or snap to the neckline. The ‘girls’ kept trying to pop out to say hi all night! Again, too hot for riding boots. And haven’t bought gray ones yet anyway. But I am seeing gray boots everywhere so they must be trending. These are cute and under $50. And these are just over $50. Pay day is Friday!
Day 8
Not sure about this look. What do you think? The blueprint for today was distressed denim + gingham shirt + leopard belt + long black cardi + cognac mules.
I shopped my closet for the gingham shirt. Mine is a blue and white topper from Old Navy, a piece from a style challenge several years ago. Loft Outlet distressed jeans, my new H&M long black cardi, and instead of mules, I have lace-up suede flats. Haven’t found a pair of mules. Most of the ones I like, are out of my price range. Love these Frye mules but they are almost 2 week’s pay! These are affordable but look a little man-ish to me. What do you think? My leopard belt is old and rarely worn. I think maybe it is from Target.
Day 11
For today we were recycling some of the pieces we have already worn. A floral blouse + dark wash skinny jeans + black cardi + gray boots.
As you can tell, I went rogue! My Loft Outlet jeans are darker wash and my Express sleeveless blouse did have a floral print but my overall look was nothing like the one Alison modeled for us. Still too hot for boots so subbed in my pink K-Mart loafers. Wore an open-weave blush cardigan from Target. Love the tassel and bead necklace from my sister.
Wore the outfit for Day 13 tonight for church and dinner out but will share that in my next fashion haus post. Hope you will pop back by when I do. It was probably my fav so far.
Your Turn
Has it turned off cool enough where you live to wear boots and cardigans comfortably? What trend are you trying this fall?
A couple of times, folks have mentioned that I look slim and trim to which I have replied thank you but it is my Kirkland’s mirror. Truly, it is my mirror. I have lost 2-3 pounds but that doesn’t qualify for slim and trim. Usually take photos with my phone camera looking into my skinny mirror. But have promised myself to try to use my DSLR camera more often so that you get a better idea of how skinny I’m not.
Here is a photo I took using my phone camera and standing on the edge of the bathtub looking into the vanity mirror. Closer to how I really look, I think!
The outfit was Day 5, a floral top + black pants + a denim jacket + booties. I tried on the jacket but again, too hot! Below is a photo taken with my DSLR camera the same day. I used my phone as a remote but have to hide it behind my back. Need some practice with all of this.
I see all of the beautiful fashion/style posts other bloggers do and feel kind of silly. Which is why there are cobwebs in my fashion haus! But maybe if I start practicing more with my camera and light kit and remote, I will get the hang of this stuff eventually. Or maybe not!
Thank you, gals, for overlooking the spiders and dust bunnies and poor photography that make up this post. Going to link up with some of the pros like Carrie and Gail and Jennie. Maybe their sense of style and great photography will rub off on me.
Hugs and kisses,
Nancy
I love the olive pants look and your dress! Wonderfull outfits! Enjoy your Sunday!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, doll. Ordered some new olive pants that I may like better. And they have a special panel to make me look secretly slimmer. Sounds like a win-win to me.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
So happy to report I ordered new olive pants from JCP which I love. Just to need to have them hemmed a bit. Yay for new clothes.
Debs
You’d have no problems with boots and thicker cardigans if you were here. I’ve even been out in my puffer jacket this week!
I think this is a real fun project to take part in and make you take a second look at what you’ve been overlooking in your wardrobe to put together a new outfit. I shall be stealing some ideas for sure! I bought some new olive green trousers this week. They were more than half price in a sale (it was an expensive shop so the half price just brought them down to normal prices!), they only had one pair and they were in my size. Clearly it was meant to be! I’ve already worn them once and I know they are going to get a lot of wear this autumn/winter.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yay for you finding that great pair of olive trousers on sale. Must have been written in the stars. I ordered a new pair of olive pants from JCP and like them better than the ones in this blog post but they need to be hemmed a bit. Or worn with heels. No, hemmed, I think!!! My heels days are few and far between lately.
Kellyann Rohr
Now Leslie, why in the world my friend do you feel silly taking outfit photos? You are cute as a button and look great! With that cute figure of yours I think you need to head yourself right on over to Old Navy and get some pants that fit better. In my opinion these are all too baggy on you. I used to do the same thing – buy jeans and pants that felt comfortable and didn’t feel constricting. Then I tried Old Navy Rockstar and what a difference. I swear they feel as comfortable as leggings but look so much better.
It’s too hot where I live too to wear any kind of sweater but I am anxiously awaiting cooler temps so I can bust’em out! Please share more of your fashion with us – you are a beautiful woman!
xo,
Kellyann
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hey Kellyann,
I am so behind on commenting and reading blog posts. Trying to catch up on this quiet Saturday evening. Thank you so much for your suggestions and kind words of support. I haven’t tried Rockstar jeans. Think I tried Old Navy’s Pixie pants and thought they were not a good fit on me. Our friend Shelly has a pair of mustard from ON that I really love. Maybe I need to get my bootie in the store and try some on for myself. I would never have guessed my pants look too baggy! Thank you so much for sharing and inspiring me to try something new. Thank you!!!!
Really want to up my style photos some in hopes of inspiring more gals my age in El Paso to step up their game. I think El Paso is always about a year behind on what’s trendy and current. And lots of gals here get caught up in the activewear leggings and tee shirt rut. One of my goals this fall and winter will be to try to take better photos and inspire others in my community.
Thank you again for your sincerely helpful comments. Stay tuned for a post from Old Navy’s dressing room! XO

I agree with Kellyann…you are fabulous!! I think it’s all about practice and getting comfortable in front of the camera!! But you have some great outfits…I may need to come steal from your closet!!!
XOXO

Thank you, Jodie! I wish I could get PC more interested or at least less disinterested in taking pics for me. I think he feels like I am saying ‘look at me’ and being vain. But like I told Kellyann, fashion and style are lacking in a lot of women in El Paso. And it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to look nice. Thank you for always giving me an word of encouragement.

Phone as a remote – yes, that’s what I do – and sometimes I’ve been known to throw it out of the way! This was quite a challenging challenge, I would have struggled for sure because I don’t have a gingham shirt or anything olive green! You did very well and you DO look slim and trim no matter which camera or mirror you’re using. It’s all that exercise you do! Thanks for joining the #WowOnWednesday link up.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Throwing the phone/remote out of the way is genius. Such a great solution. I would never have guessed you were taking your photos using a remote. Surely J helps some of the time. Your photos look so polished and professional.
Thank you for the sweet words about my exercise and my shape. I do feel fitter/more fit even if my clothes are fitting differently and I can see a difference in how I look in real life vs the skinny mirror. Our mirror in the bathroom at work casts the most distasteful and unkind reflection back at me. So I try to ignore it, and just concentrate on how my skinny mirror makes me look and feel! Ha!
Em
This is fun! I checked out the GYPO capsules thanks to you. I may have to invest in this! Really like the whole concept…except having to pay, which I totally get, but don’t love bc I am so flipping cheap. I think being able to shop clothes more effectively would make it a smart purchase, though!
Related note, you look fabulous. You’re so fit and trim! Yay you! You’re making me think about getting off my, ahem, duff!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hey, Em, if you decide to join up for a wardrobe capsule, use my affiliate link and you will get a $10 refund. That makes them a bit more affordable. The fall and spring challenges are my favorite but I love winter weather…well, if there is snow involved. And since you have an abundance of snow, the winter capsule wardrobe might be a great one for you. If you decide to join, let me know and I will join, too. PC says that the Farmer’s Almanac is prognosticating a wet winter for us, so that will be my excuse to join. Then maybe we could do a post sharing our takes on some of the winter outfits. Just think about it and if you decide to give it a go, holler back.
Thank you for your kind compliments. I feel fitter/more fit these days but my skinny mirror is a real exaggeration and makes me a lot slimmer looking. I love that thing. If, heaven forbid, our house was on fire, I would be sure PC, the kitties and my photo albums were safe and then that mirror would be next.
Em
The mirror! hahaha!
And sure! I think that would be fun. My two readers might enjoy a post about something other than the projects I’m not doing. 🙂
Dara
I really like that you get exact descriptions of what to wear each day. Of course, it is hard when the weather doesn’t cooperate! My only riding boots are brown – I like the grey ones you linked to!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
If you ever want to join a challenge, just holler, and please use my affiliate link. The challenges are great fun, and the gals participating are fabulous. So supportive. I always feel much more put together with Alison’s great tips and outfit formulas. She helps me dress beyond sweat pants and a tee.

Cute looks! I’m loving those athleisure shoes in the first photo. It’s still quite warm where I am, but I think this coming weekend is supposed to cool down a lot and I cannot wait as I have a lot of outdoor activities!
-Lauren
Leslie Roberts Clingan
You do have some great outdoor activities on your bucket list. Hope the weather was cool and fallish over this long weekend and will stay that way for next weekend, too. My mom and brother say y’all have had a good deal of rain. I guess spin-off from the hurricane maybe?
My athleisure shoes arrived and I am super excited to start wearing them. I don’t like wearing tennies or work out/gym shoes with jeans but these look less gym-ish. I think they will be kinda cute. Thanks, Lauren, for the sweet compliments.
I didn’t get my glossy in time to join for your glossies post on Friday. Torn between trying to write a quick post now or waiting til the next glossies link-up. But know I will be back!!
Amy
So many great fall looks! I really love the cardigan you’re wearing in the first picture.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Amy. That gray cardi is an old fav from Dress Barn. It has gotten lots of love and wear.
Karen
Leslie you are just so wonderful!!!! I love all of your outfits and you look great! <3 Hugs sweet lady, Karen
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Awww, Karen!! Thank you for coming by! Made my day to see your comment. Have been so glad to see you playing dress up with everyone at GYPO. Haven’t we made some very special friendships through those challenges?
Daenel T.
How fun! I’ve thought about doing a capsule wardrobe — they look so interesting and it always amazes me the number of creative outfits that people can put together with so few clothes. Your wrap dress is beyond gorgeous. I had to LOL about the girls popping out though — that’s ALWAYS my problem with anything wrapping because I’m so busty. I also like the print on the last top that you’re wearing — that is so me.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
People who aren’t busty don’t realize what a struggle being so can be. I need to have a snap or hook and eye put on my wrap dress before I wear it again. And just bought new olive pants I prefer to the ones in this post and need to have them hemmed a bit, I think. I am shrinking! Waaaa!
em
PS. I ALWAYS stand on the tub surround to see my outfits as well!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Love that you stand on the tub to get a good look at your outfits, too!! Been out of town and just now getting caught up on my blogging. Let me know if you decide to do a capsule wardrobe challenge!
Laura
I like when you went rogue! I think the lighter cardigan compliments that top more! That wrap dress is beautiful on you too! Can you believe I don’t have a wrap dress?! They are so flattering though so I think that needs to change asap! Good luck with your hunt for more olive colored pants!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I need to wear my wrap dress again. We need to have a fancy date night or get to church again now that we are home from Arizona. Otherwise, I don’t have many occasions to wear a dress. Want to wear my tulle skirt, again too.
I found some olive pants I like better at JCP. They are a bit on the long side so I am thinking I need to hem them maybe an inch so they work better with flats. They have a panel for the tummy, too, which is an added bonus.
Andrea@WellnessNotes
Fun! Great outfits! Looking fabulous! And you look just as great in front of the “not skinny mirror!”

Thank you, Andrea. I love my skinny mirror and do see a difference in the way I look in it but hope I look okay in my regular bathroom mirror, too!
