Fashionistas and clothes-wearing friends, thank you for stopping in for the Ageless Style 06.2021: Brights. This series is hosted by my friend Carrie from A Simple Lovely Life and 7 of her blogging buddies. Honored to be joining this stylish group of fashion bloggers.
AGELESS STYLE LINK UP
The Ageless Style Link Up is series that goes live on the third Thursday of the month. For each post one of the gals in the group selects a theme then all of us put together a look or looks reflecting it. Last month’s theme ‘double duty’ was selected by Daenel at Living Outside the Stacks. I shared a couple of ways to wear what is my favorite fashion trend…the kimono. You can check out that post, here.
The theme for June – brights – was selected by Jamie at No Delusions of Grandeur. She is most active on Instagram as Retrocutie. An alias that reflects her love of retro fashion. If you aren’t following her already, find her here.

AGELESS STYLE 06.2021: Brights
With all the business stuff out of the way, let’s get to the fashion. Was tickled today when my friend Daenel crowned me the Queen of Kimonos on her Style Imitating Art post, here, after I submitted a kimono look as my interpretation for this week’s art. I humbly accepted the coronation then slipped into my latest kimono for this month’s Ageless Style 06.2021 post.
Brights by Day
I found this kimono or it found me on Facebook. Does that happen to anyone else? Can be minding my business, just scrolling through my FB newsfeed, showing my friends and fam some love. Then BAM…this bright colored, boho print kimono from Bobilemon pops up in my feed.

And it is love at first sight. Couldn’t buy it fast enough. It seems even Facebook somehow knows how much I love kimonos.
For today’s prompt, I styled this bright kimono 2 ways. First, with some Gap distressed denim shorts, a knotted white tee and these J. Crew rainbow sandals.
Found the bright hoop earrings at Hobby Lobby of all places.
Have been looking for some hot pink earrings then these caught my eye in the check out lane. Those goodies strategically placed at the cash registers call my name a lot like the Facebook ads do.
Please excuse the mess around me. Was in the process of spring cleaning this guest bedroom. The comforter and drapes were in the washing machine.
I like the shorter length of this kimono. Makes it a little more versatile I think. Works with shorts, jeans and even transitioned into an evening outfit with my eyelet sundress.
Brights By Night
This eyelet dress (similar, similar) has narrowly escaped several recent purges of my closet. It had gotten kind of snug on top so I was pleasantly surprised to find it actually fit a little better when I put it on last weekend. Might get a little more wear now. This time, instead of wearing a strapless bra with it, I wore a lacy bralette (similar, similar) with it. There was less bulk with it than a bra. So the dress fit better and was much more comfortable.
Added some peep toe wooden wedge sandals and a rose gold heart necklace PC gave me at Christmas.
Back to the kimono. The fabric is fringed around the hem and opening. I have others with nylon fringe but it gets caught on everything and comes unraveled. Wore it the other day to take my granddarlings to school and before we could get out of the car, my fringe had tied the 3 of us in a giant knot. Hope this will wear a little better.
Although I navigate more toward earth tones, I think I probably wear bright jewel tones better. I foresee this kimono getting a lot of action over the summer and even into the fall.
YOUR TURN
Do you wear a lot of bright colors or lean more toward earth tones or pastels? How about kimonos? Have you discovered their magical ability to elevate a simple pair of jeans and a tee to the next level? What’s your favorite bright look? Won’t you share with us below?
AMIGAS MIA

I’ve been busy helping Lauren with the girls since her heart ablation on Monday morning. She is still having PVCs but the doctor attributes them to inflammation of her heart after the procedure. We hope she is soon feeling some relief.
Hope you have something fun planned for the weekend. I’m surprising PC with a spring bucket list activity. Will share with my final spring bucket list update on Monday, 06.21.2021. And will be revealing my summer list at the same time. I’ve got an idea…why don’t you make up your bucket or activity list for the season, too. You can come back on Monday and link up with me. Or leave your list in a comment or on my blog Facebook page, here.
Hugs and kisses,

I would have bought that kimono immediately too! It’s gorgeous! I love the vibrant colors! Both of these outfits are fabulous! It looks so pretty contrasted with the white dress!

Thank you. It was a pleasant surprise to discover that dress was more comfortable than the last time I wore it.

It is such a beautiful kimono Leslie and looks great styled both ways.

Very pretty outfits! I am a sucker for impulse buys near the register too… and even those few times I pop onto Facebook.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I need to put blinders on at the reigster and while scrolling FB!!

What a beautiful kimono – such pretty colours and it suits you so well. I love the way it looks different with shorts to how it becomes when you style it with a dress. You are worthy of your Queen of Kimonos crown!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, my friend. I will wear my crown with pride.
laurabambrick
Your kimono was a serendipitous find! It’s absolutely beautiful and the bright colors look fantastic on you!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oooo, I like that…serendipitous find. Indeed it was. Going to use that if PC asks any questions. Thank you, sweets.

Very, very pretty!

Thank you mucho!

Leslie, Leslie, Leslie….I think that kimono needs to come visit my closet. OMG..it’s so amazing. The colors just make you happy and who doesn’t need that?
I also know what you mean about a snug top with my “bra”. I have a couple of tops/dresses that my Ruby Ribbon bra is WAY better because of that issue!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I love the colors. It is a very cheerful piece.
Need to check out Ruby Ribbon bras. I just bought my first minimizer (thanks to Kellyann)
and I love it. Not sure where it puts my excess breastage but not asking any questions!
Mica - Away From Blue
such a fun kimono – I can see why you had to have it, it’s a beautiful mix of colours and prints! Like you I like my kimonos both with shorts and dresses in summer – they really are very versatile options! 🙂
Hope you’re having a wonderful day 🙂
Leslie Roberts Clingan
You have a great collection of kimonos, too. And have styled them so well. You are my kimono inspiration!!
Cammi
Well when you see a beautiful kimono like that, you just HAVE to get it!! Good for you! And I love how you’ve styled it… both ways are so pretty! Great job, Leslie!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Cammi. I think I could wear a kimono about every day.

I need that kimono too – I am checking it out right now. Did you get a small? When I saw your photo on IG I immediately noticed how beautiful the bright colors looked on you – love it!

I probably got a medium. I never order small in anything. Thank you!! I love that kimono so much. It will go with anything in almost every season.

The colours are awesome and you look beautiful, Leslie. You make the kimono look great. Interesting how you mention “bright colours.” I call them happy colours.🙂
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you. This kimono has a happy feel, doesn’t it?
Daenel Vaughn-Tucker (@DaenelT)
That kimono is so so pretty. And you wear it well – hence the title! *heart eyes* So funny that you mention getting your earrings at Hobby Lobby. I bought a pair of earrings at the checkout at a restaurant. I mean, who would’ve thought? LOL It’s those unexpected finds that turn out to be so fun.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
You are so right. Crazy to find earrings somewhere like a restaurant or craft supply store. But my Hobby Lobby earrings are fast becoming my faves. Thank you for the sweet words.
Jamie Moore
Your kimono is so so beautiful! I love the ways you styled it!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you!! I think I could wear a kimono everyday and twice on Sundays.
Erin @ Cracker Crumb Life
That kimono is so cute! And comfortable looking. Now I want one. LOL. I tend to wear a lot of black. Lol. Or green. I am pretty boring!
The Grey Brunette
I was just on Daenel’s blog and saw her comment about you being the kimono queen so I thought I’d pop on over to ‘meet’ you! I’m so glad I did. I love your style! The brightly coloured kimono looks so beautiful on you, both ways. And the earrings are super cute too.
I hope you’re having a marvelous week!
Hugs

Thank you so much for stopping by!! Glad you discovered me via our mutual friend Daenel. I have admired your sense of style in link ups you have participated with friends. Going to stop by your blog now, too.
I do love my kimonos…the brighter the color, the livelier the print, the better!!
Jess
Hi Leslie!
I’ve missed you too! I know ladies get busy, so I didn’t want to intrude, but it is good to hear from you!
Boy, I see why it was love at first site, this kimono is so striking! I love the colors! I always appreciate neutral looks and I do get in the mood for them, but I do love color! You styled it very well with the denim shorts and sandals, I think that is a great “uniform” for summer! I love the dress as well. The length is just perfect for both pieces. You look great and happy Summer friend!

Thank you, darling friend. I dreamed about you in your green bathing suit last night!! Woke up inspired to try on my new bathing suit. So happy to discover it has some of the features you recommended like the adjustable straps, the removable pads in the top. Thank you for that post. And for coming by to visit!! So glad we are reunited.
