Ladybugs,
Linking up with Anne in Residence for Currently 09.2019. Anne’s Currently posts always go live on the first Wednesday of the month. And she is so good to send email reminders to those of us who participate regularly. You might enjoy writing for this series, too. It’s another one of those posts that makes me think!! Before we get started today, you can read my August Currently post, here.
This month we are talking about what we’re currently: consuming, discovering, making, saving, and taking. And in ABC order, here are my responses.

Currently, 09.2019
The prompts for Currently 09.2019 were tough for me. Maybe because we are kind of sleep walking right now. Fall is my favorite season but it is also the time of year that my Lyme disease flares back up. I become foggy-headed, start having trouble with my vision, and generally feel like I have the body aches that come with a mild case of the flu. Our lives are kind of upside down right now, too, with PC’s job situation a question mark. He is home between 2-3 days a week, and when he does go into Ft. Bliss, he’s usually home shortly after lunch.
Hoping we can find a new sense of normal soon.
Consuming…
books, maybe? Certainly not by anyone else’s standards, though. I’ve seen all you gals with the tall stacks of books you consume in a month. But I feel like quite the glutton in a month where I’ve read 2-3 books. Just finished The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren – really funny, Wishtree by Katherine Applegate – thoughtful children’s book and When All is Said by Anne Griffin – poignant family story.
Have started 2 new books, Whisper Me This by Kerry Anne King (only $1.99 on Kindle) and our latest book club choice, Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane. I need to do a Title Talk post, huh?
Would love to invite you to join our virtual book club. It has been such a wonderful thing for me. And we are up over 60 members, with 3 new gals this week!! If you are interested, please let me know in a comment below.
Discovering…
that it is time to declutter around here. With all the other feelings I am feeling right now, I am also feeling like everything is kind of closing in on me at home. Too much STUFF. I read the Marie Kondo book several years ago and applied it to my clothes. But it is time to apply it to other areas as well. And to get back into my closet for another discriminating look at my summer clothes that went unworn and unloved this year.
Making…
a nature scavenger hunt. This is one of the activities on my summer bucket list. One that I haven’t yet accomplished. But this weekend I made a nature scavenger hunt checklist and have plans to start the hunt this weekend.
Saving…
my fall clothing purchases for after the release of the Get Your Pretty On fall 2019 capsule wardrobe challenge shopping list. Don’t you know grandmas/mimis/gabbas/minnies can be fashionistas, too? And what better way to do a little something for YOU. Refresh your existing fall wardrobe while learning to style the latest trends.
Registration opens on 09.06.2019. TOMORROW. I can’t wait!! Won’t you join me?
Taking…
summer decor down and putting fall up. Haven’t gotten very far on the putting up fall part, but the summer decor is all over the guest bedroom waiting to be boxed up. Not nearly as fun packing it away as it is getting the stuff out!!
SUMMER GOALS UPDATE
Wee bit of progress here but nothing to write home about.
- Reach and maintain my Weight Watchers lifetime goal weight. ✅ I’m hovering around 138. Not strictly tracking my WW points but still watching what I eat and monitoring my weight. Concentrating on toning now.
- Do Wishtree book study. ✅ Finished this book last week. It was a quick, delightful read. Grab your favorite youngster and read this book together.
- Write 2 new TpT library lessons. Nope. Have written one new lesson for our Teachers Pay Teachers store this summer but need to get after that second one. I think it will be about children’s book awards.
- Train for a triathlon. ❌ Ok, my hopes of participating in a triathlon were short-lived. Didn’t realize that the swimming would be on the same day as the run and bike ride. Misunderstood something in the information on the Eagle in the Sun website. Had hoped to at least work up to biking, running and swimming requirements but haven’t done that either.
- Finish spring cleaning. Not finished but back to work on it. Kind of got stuck in the kitchen and can’t seem to get out of there. Not that it was that dirty!! But there were several things I wanted to do in the kitchen.
- Continue finding 30 minutes of ✌ peace everyday. Had done well on this until I went to Ft. Worth. Then started watching Cia which delayed my quiet time every day. And then we went to KY-OH-TN-KY. Getting back on track now, though.
- FINISH. Eh, kinda. Have finished a lot of books. That counts, right? Going to finish the spring cleaning and before fall arrives!! Have to get after my art projects. Just need to FINISH, for Pete’s sake, finish.
Still plenty of work to do to realize these goals. Need to kick things into turbo!

PC is already up in bed. Need to publish this post and get up there myself. Enjoy your day, friends. Thank you for spending a bit of it here with me.
Hugs and kisses,
Em
Currently…I love these posts…I guess I love all your posts!
I don’t have good answers to your prompts, so I’ll just say currently I’m trying to focus on my health and catch up with looong overdue tests and visits to that end. Not big fun…but important!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, Em. I hope all of your test results are coming back picture perfect and that you are just getting them all out of the way so you can be sure to have a clean bill of health. I am doing about the same thing. Because our insurance changed, our doctors all changed. Boo. And I am having to start all over with new specialists. No fun at all. But, like you said, so important.
Kellyann Rohr
Well, you may not have read a stack of books but you have been hangin’ with the cutest little granddaughter so I’d say that was time better spent! I do hope your PC’s job situation is soon solved, that is stressful. I ordered Ask Again from the library – I hope it gets delivered soon. I’ve been reading like a crazy person but at the expense of everything else. I’d much rather have human interaction!
xo,
Kellyann
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, doll!! I am hangin’ with a pretty cute lil 3 year old, aren’t I. And we even read together now and then. Her kitty died in the spring and I bought her the Cynthia Rylant book “Cat Heaven.” But her mommy can’t get through reading the book to Cia without crying. Cia brought me the book the other day and asked me to read it to her. It is a beautiful help to children who have lost a beloved kitty. And Cia loved it.
Hope you like Ask Again. I am probably 1/4th the way through. Can’t decide about it. The gal doing the narration on Audible is kind of flat. Maybe the characters are kind of flat or emotionless and she is reading them that way. But so far, I am not bowled over.
Jill
I have been barely making it through one book a month so I’m impressed that you read 2 – 3! One of my fall goals is to declutter. Congrats on reaching your WW goal! Can’t wait to hear about your scavenger hunt!
Jill – Doused in Pink
Leslie Roberts Clingan
If you want to write about your decluttering efforts, maybe we could each do a post and share at the same time? I am just starting but last weekend threw out some stuff I had been holding onto for YEARS. So liberating!!
I have never been able to read more than one book at a time but now that I am listening to some, it helps. Kind of like having my own private play performed in my car every time I drive anywhere. I also listen during walks and when I iron. If you haven’t tried Audible, give it a go. I love it.
Dee | Grammy's Grid
Congrats on your weight goal! I can’t seem to find time to read. Thanks so much for linking up at the #WednesdayAIMLinkParty 44.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Dee!! Have fallen off the WW bandwagon but back on today!
Nancy
Well your spring ckeaning would become fall cleaning! Lol! I hope PC work situation gets better soon and that your health problems will be gone, over night! I know that will not happen but I would want that for you! Enjoy your Day!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you for coming by, sweet thing. Come do a fall bucket list with me, Nancy!!! You could do it all about fall fashion. Make it a list of things you want to do related to fashion this fall…or throw in some activities unrelated to fall, too. Like dinners or outings with friends. If you are interested, please email me at mommyhon333@hotmail.com.

Do you have chronic lyme disease? I had lyme disease when I was 17, but it was cured with antibiotics, as far as I know! I wrote that I’m consuming books too. I really want to read Ask Again Yes but I’m on a long library list for it! I also still have to read my copy of the Unhoneymooners. Do you think the GYPO challenge is worth the money?
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I love the GYPO challenges. Have you ever done one? With your shiny new figure, I think you would enjoy them. Fall and spring are the challenges I like best. And you guys probably get 4 seasons where you can dress in different ways for each one. We have a whole lot of summer and then a quick fall, winter and spring. I like seeing ways to wear favorite pieces and keeping up with trends. And truly, truly, I enjoy getting dressed so so so much more than ever before. Commercial over!
Did you have oral antibiotics for your Lyme disease? Did you have a rash? Would love to know more. Maybe we can email about this. Or even a blog post about our experiences. The Unhoneymooners was a lot of fun. Ask Again Yes is much heavier. Listening to it on Audible.
Rebecca Jo
Bless your heart. I didnt realize Lupus was like that with the flares. Makes sense though. What do you do for that? Anything that helps? Sending you good fall vibes of healing!!! No one wants to feel bad during the beauty of Fall!!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Actually, what I have is Lyme disease from a tick. Or 2 ticks, 2 separate contractions of the disease. I think flare ups only occur when you have chronic Lyme disease which went undiagnosed for a length of time. But I can relate, in some small way, to the frustration, the pain, the aggravation of having your tranfusions. You are amazing. Hoping this season of your life is soon behind you.
Laura Bambrick
It was nice to catch up with what has been going on in your life! I can’t wait to put up my fall things. I look forward to changing my planters out for fall too. I’m interested to see what you thought of Whisper Me This. I didn’t care for it, but I’m curious what you think!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I am reading Whisper Me This and Ask Again, Please and having trouble keeping them straight. Not too thrilled about either one yet. Need to do a book review!
Sylvia | Grace for a Gypsy
I wish I could carve out enough time to do some reading! Thanks for linking up with us at the #WednesdayAIMLinkParty 44
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Sylvia, come do a fall bucket list post with me!! We will share our lists on 09.21. They can be as involved or simple as you like. But sure would love to have some of my new blogging grandmother buddies join me. If you are interested, please let me know so I can add your name to the email group.
Daenel T.
Congratulations on the weight loss and maintenance. I really need to get after it. I keep saying that, but I never follow through.
I hope your husband’s work life straightens out soon so y’all can find a normal. That stress can’t be helping your chronic illness.
Take care of yourself.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Daenel. I am always telling Paul that his back issues are partially stress-related. Ha! Never thought about how the same could be true for me. And this time of year I always have a Lyme disease flare up. Certain that is compounding things. So ready to find a normal!! And stay there for awhile.
Donna Connolly
Hi, Leslie – I love your goal setting, your process and most of all, your honesty.
And yes – books do count for your Finish goal — so you can put a big check right there! 🙂
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Donna. You always put a smile on my face with your comments.
Christie Hawkes
Hello Leslie! I hope you are feeling well and that things are settling down with your PC’s work situation. Life is full of curve balls, is it not? I just finished reading Ask Again, Yes last night. I really enjoyed it. I’m curious to know what you think. Good luck on your goals!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Glad to know you enjoyed Ask Again, Yes. I am struggling with it a little. I think the Audible narrator is rather monotone but maybe because the characters’ voices are not full of emotion. They seem to just kind of accept their lot in life without hysterics. Maybe I should learn from them!

The prompts: consuming, discovering, making, saving, and taking.
Consuming: Other than food, I don’t think I am consuming anything. I’m a retailers worst nightmare as I usually buy nothing. OTOH, I bought DH a complete summer wardrobe thanks to all the close out end-of-summer sales. Now, when we head down to Florida this winter, he’ll look like Dapper Dan!
Discovering: I have come to the realization that I do NOT like change in any shape, mode or form. I like things just the way it is. The biggest change this month was a slight drop in income. This sent me into a tailspin. Thankfully, I’m over it. I realized I didn’t die. I survived. LOL!!
Saving: I’m not saving anything.
Taking: other than a few photos, I;m not taking anything either.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thanks for playing along!! Glad you survived the slight drop in your income. I am terrified that we are about to experience a huge drop in income if PC doesn’t get a job offer soon. Starting to get very nervous.
Hey, come do fall bucket list with us. You could inspire so many with your clever writing, your frugal ways to live a rich life and have fun. Our posts go live on 09.21. Please email if you would like to join the gang!! Would LOVE to have you.
