Good morning, good evening, good night nurse, my friends. Thanks for joining me for Sentence a Day 10.2024 – a long-winded review of my October in one run-on sentence a day.
First Off – Disclosures
As I have always said, I write these sentences for me. As a way of keeping track of what all has happened and when. I know this is really a lot of gibberish. A bunch of stuff I really don’t expect anyone to wade through!! But it helps me to reflect on each day, and record the important things so I can keep them straight, if not in my mind, on ‘paper’ at least. So, with that being said, please know you are free from any expectation that you need to read every word.

Sentence a Day & OGT
Every month I try very hard to get my SaD post together, in order to make the What’s Been on Your Calendar? link-up with Deb at Deb’s World, Sue who blogs at Women Living Well After 50, Donna from Retirement Reflections and Jo who can be found at And Anyways, which opens on the last Friday of each month. But the last day of the month isn’t always the last Friday, so I never seem to make the What’s Been on Your Calendar link-up!! I am always adding sentences through the last day of the month, whatever day that falls on. Someday, maybe?
Have recently reconnected with Jennifer at Overflowing with Thankfulness and hope to link up this post with her Thankful Thursday series, too.
Que Mas?
I also share an OGT=one good thing for each day; something each day for which I am grateful. Try to update the progress I have made or lack there of toward incorporating my WOTY=word of the year into my day to day. And when I haven’t been wearing nothing but an orthopedic boot and shorts, I like to share a few OOTD=outfits of the day.

1 Second Each Day
Here’s a quick video review of my tenth month of the year.
Some Numbers I’m Proud Of
For so long, I have tried to get 10K steps. You might remember in some of my wellness posts from the past, I have talked about participating in StepBet, trying to reach weekly and monthly exercise goals. We were swimming so well this summer. Doing standing abs and weight lifting workouts. Being grounded with this foot and orthopedic boot really cramped my style. But I have tried to find ways to stay active.
Today I checked my activity tracker and was pleased with some of the numbers it revealed.
- we rejoined the gym 2 weeks ago and have gone 11 times
- this month, I ‘walked’ 68,000 steps, an average of 2,400 a day – mostly on 1 foot – 34 miles
- have completed 71 days straight of Spanish language instruction on Duolingo; have been doing it for several years but have never gone this many days in a row, que bueno!!
So, while this month has been frustrating, there have been a few little successes.
2024 Word of the Year (WOTY)
My word of the year is lighten (up). September didn’t feel very light and October less so. It has been 8 weeks since I broke my foot. I am much more mobile, thank goodness. On Halloween afternoon, I return to the doctor for more X-rays to determine whether my fractures have healed enough to allow me to remove the boot and start walking on my foot in regular shoes. For 2 weeks, I have been able to walk on my boot short distances and for short periods of time. But my foot is still pretty swollen, stiff and can be quite uncomfortable after I have been up on it for a time. Just anxious to get on with life.
And
Mentioned last month that I had been wearing a little white beaded bracelet everyday to remind me to take my troubles to God. But more importantly, to remind myself how very thankful I need to be for this great life. For all the good things. Then a couple of days after I broke my heel, my bracelet broke. I have 2 replacement bracelets but they aren’t the same!! Hoping to go over the mountain to my favorite jewelry repair gal to see what she can do with my beads.
Plus
With the Presidential (I know that isn’t capitalized but I believe it should be) election just a few days away, there is a lot of tension across our country. I find it hard to believe that from sea to shining sea these 2 are the only candidates we have for the leader of our great nation. Have mercy. Worried how the country will react no matter who is elected on 11.05.2024.
To summarize, I am not feeling very light!!
Your Turn
How was your October, friends? What would you rate it on a scale of 1-10? I think I’d give mine about a 5. Lots of frustrating days. But looking forward to a better, more mobile November.
Thank you for spending some of your valuable day to read my whininess!! Hope next month’s sentences have lots of action words – verbs – and pleasant adjectives. I appreciate you hanging in with me.
Hugs and kisses,
Lisa Elliott
I’m so excited you are healing well and back to two shoes!! Congrats!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you!! My foot is super swollen tonight – funny how being ‘back to normal’ seems to make things worse at first. Guess I just have to get some strength built back into my foot and ankle. Thank you for cheering me on. XO
Joanne Tracey
Healing takes such a lot of time (and way too much patience) but you are heading in the right direction. Re your election, as an outsider looking in, your comment about the suitability of both candidates is one that is common here.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I just shake my head. Out of the millions of Americans we have in this country, these 2 clowns are the only candidates we could find for the most powerful, important position in the land? Geez. We lose either way.
So thankful to be healing and to be wearing matching shoes again!! But gosh, this dumb foot hurts more now than it did when it was broken!! Thank you for the encouragement.
Laura Bambrick
Lucia’s artwork is amazing! She is so talented! Glad you are well on your way to healing. Broken bones can be so frustrating!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you. Lucia has always been so artistic. The art ed major in me hopes she will continue to create beautiful things!!
Marsha Banks
Yay! You’re able to wear 2 shoes now! Notice how I skipped over the rest? I’m so glad your body healed itself the way it should. I had a love/hate affair with my knee scooter. I loved having it for the mobility, but I hated that I needed it. I’m so impressed with how much you accomplished even with a broken foot! The stiffness and soreness will probably disappear as your muscles and tendons get used to be using normally again. Your beautiful family is always so near and dear. I’m glad you’re able to be with them, see them, or talk to them. Isn’t Facetime wonderful? I am also worried about the election. I wonder if we will even know a week from today (Friday)? I really hope so even if the winner isn’t my vote. I just want it to be done. I wish we were more like the UK where they accomplish it in a couple of months. Can you imagine the money saved?

I am so glad we are this side of the election. Surely by the next time we vote for President, we will have better candidates to choose from. I really struggle to vote for either one of these two.
Yeah, how ’bout me sporting 2 shoes these days. Boy, all of my hiking boots and tennis shoes are getting some love. The doctor told me to wear fery thick soled shoes until my December appointment. Hard to dress up with clod-hoppers on, though!!

Hi Leslie – so much here to read and catch up on – with lots of ups and downs. It’s amazing how sleep becomes such a big focus as we get older isn’t it. Every morning my husband asks me for a “sleep report” and then I ask him. Fortunately I’ve found an antihistamine that I take before bed that helps me sleep better, reduces my postnasal drip, and also has helped me cough less (that darn chronic cough drives me crazy!) So I’m taking my little pill each night and being grateful when I get a solid chunk of undisturbed sleep under my belt. I hope your foot keeps healing and there’ll be more good news in next month’s updates. x

Ha, isn’t it crazy how important sleep is becoming. We are sleeping up a storm over here lately and having to set the alarm to keep from sleeping until very late in the morning. Glad for your antihistamine that lulls you to sleep. Most of those types of medications make me jittery and wired so I avoid them, especially at night. We compare notes every morning on the night’s sleep, too!! Ha!!

First off, I’m glad to hear your foot is healed, Leslie! I enjoyed reading your sentence of the day, but especially the little good thing you added each day. I share your heaviness over the election and the days following. I hope our country will pull together and that people will remember to be kind to each other.

Thank you!! I am glad to be well on the way to healed with this silly foot. I still grumble about it, though. Big baby that I am.
So glad the election is behind us. Can only hope that in the next 4 years we can find some more capable, moral, YOUNGER candidates. Surely in all this land, there is someone under 60 that would qualify for each party.

Friend – I have not had time to read through your post yet…just getting started. But I noticed you are commenting on my blog. Does that mean we are reading each others’ blogs at the exact same time. Isn’t that cool!? Just one step away from actually talking on the phone. Ok, maybe not but it is pretty “real time.” I hope you are enjoying your evening. I am so behind in reading my favorite blogs but this evening had proven a good time to do so. And, of course, with the extra hour tonight…well, I’ve got plenty of time:) Anyhoo, I just wanted to say hello. Now, I’m going to actually read the post (so I might comment again!)

That is very cool that we were visiting each other at the same time!! Intuitive of us. My BFF and I often start texting each other at the same time. I think friends are on the same wave length lots of times.
I get kind of caught up on my blog reading and then take a day or two off and I am behind again!! Hope you have enjoyed your weekend and maybe taken in a far or farmer’s market.

Leslie – what a month with your foot! I feel so bad for you…but, my goodness, you did get a lot accomplished even with the aggravation of that foot. Any idea when you will be wearing a real shoe again? Will you have to do much PT? Here’s to a month of healing! Hope you have a beautiful month ahead….and way more nights of sleeping well than not!!:)

Guess who is wearing two shoes these days!!?? Oh, yeah, baby…ME!! Not ready for stilettos but at least I have matching footwear (tennies, hiking boots with thick soles) now. I was supposed to start PT this past week but the doctor’s office failed to fax over my authorization to the therapist. Boo. So I hope to get started in the coming week. Not that I am looking forward to it, but just want to get it done and get on with life.
Have slept very well lately, thank you. And while we were in the mountains earlier this week, I slept like a champ!!

Oh my goodness! So much happening & has been for you since PC retired & you broke your foot.
Sigh! I had that happen to me years ago & I will always remember how hard life was like that.
We here in Australia are watching the election news unfold & it’s a shame that whatever happens there will most likely be more unrest.
Enjoy whatever your November brings & hug your family tight!

Yay for seeing improvement in the healing of your foot! As much as it hurts and swells, I bet you are still quite happy to be back in 2 shoes. love that Hay, fall sign you made. I also enjoyed seeing the pumpkin decorating and costume photos.

Thank you, sweet friend. Not ready for prime time yet, but making progress.

Hi friend – happy Monday! Just wondering if you got my comments over the weekend? I actually had multiple ones (shocking, I know) but now I don’t see them. Did I do something wrong? Was just checking…
Hope you have a great week ahead. I won’t rehearse my comments from Saturday evening but hope your ankle is feeling stronger and stronger every day – and that this week is a good one (a strong one) for you!!

Ah I got a mention! Glad you liked the gelato.
Good to hear your got some good news about the foot. Hopefully you are at the tail end of this now and you make a smooth recovery.
Sleep is a blessing.. I haven’t been getting enough these days and I need to really work on that.
Looks like you still managed to have a wonderful month.
I am not looking forward to these next few days.. pray God knows what is best and will help bring this divided nation together again.

Oh you must be so fed up with the lengthy amount of time that the healing process is taking, but it seems that things are improving now. I’m impressed by how often you’ve been to the gym!
It does seem strange to us who don’t live in the US that you only have a choice of two people for such an important appointment! We will be watching and waiting anxiously for the results as I have a feeling that there will be trouble of some kind no matter who wins.
