Good morning, good afternoon and good evening, fashionistas and clothes-wearing friends. It is the third Thursday of the month – I know, I couldn’t believe it either. We all know that means it is time for Ageless Style 11.2023. Last month it was our October birthday girl, Marsha’s turn to choose our prompt. And she chose party looks. How appropriate, huh? I shared a couple of outfits, here, but I’ll be the first to admit I am not much of a party girl. More of a party-pooper!!
This month it was Mireille’s turn to select our theme and she chose to have us layer up. Mireille discovers some of the best things when she goes thrifting. She has this one mustard-y yellow denim jacket that I covet. And I think she found it at a thrift store. A number of her maxi dresses and skirts are thrifted jewels. The thrift stores here just don’t have treasure like that. We have oodles of school uniform-appropriate pants and Polos instead.
Ageless Style 11.2023
It’s funny how I always think of layering as adding something on top of my basic look. A cardigan, or jacket, or one of my beloved kimonos. But in preparing this post, I saw Kellyann at This Blonde’s Shopping Bag style a layer UNDER rather than OVER and it blew my mind!! 🤯💣🤯Ha!! While it doesn’t take much to do that these days, her baby Halftee UNDER her absolutely darling Sofia Jeans faux leather dress (from Walmart!!) could not be sassier!! Check her out.
Isn’t she rocking this look? Love it all. And love it all so much that I ran – not walked – over to Halftee to score one of their mock neck half tees in white using Kellyann’s discount code – KELLYANN20. Today is the last day to get 30% off, so follow my good lead and head over there to treat yo’ self!! I plan to wear mine under a couple of jumpers that I bought years ago. Time to dust them off.
Layer Up, Ladies
Like I said, I have mucho outfits where I have layered on top. And today I am sharing my latest favorite go-to look for doctors appointments of which we have had in abundance lately – 3 last week. For running errands. And day dates. They all revolve around pairing my Old Navy plaid lightweight blazer with a turtleneck or graphic tee or short-sleeve sweater underneath.
It was love at first sight when I tried it on at Old Navy. Just so happened that everything I was wearing that day worked well layered under the blazer. It had to come home with me.
With a Turtleneck
The plaid is so pretty. A combination of black, beige and brown with a magenta stripe that makes it a little more feminine. I wanted to find a turtleneck in the perfect shade of pink so matched that stripe in the jacket to a bottle of magenta paint I had and snapped a picture.
Found this St. John’s Bay long sleeve turtleneck in the softest cotton in French fuchsia – the exact color I needed. It is available in so many pretty shades. I’d love to have one of each. And at a very affordable price point. I’m thinking balmy sea and majestic blue need to be my next JCP purchases.
Plan to wear this to church on Sunday.
With a Graphic Tee
For Thanksgiving lunch at Lucia’s school, I decided to wear my blazer with a crew neck Hello Fall graphic tee from Maurice’s and some Loft black cords.
For year’s I would have only worn black shoes with a black belt. But you gals out there have opened the door to new combinations for me. I still have trouble mixing metals and wearing silver earrings with a gold necklace but I’m working on it. My mules are Bison Spirit from Amazon. So comfy. And my belt is one of a 2-pack of faux leather belts also from Amazon.
Here’s how it all came together.
All Weather Weight
All weather weight. The blazer. Not me. I am a heavy weight right now. Woke up one morning a month or so ago and my hips and tummy had blossomed overnight. In great shape for hibernation if I were a bear. Grrr. Our temperatures are still in the 70s in the afternoon, so I am chilly (despite my newly acquired layer of blubber) in places where the AC is still on. This blazer is a comfortable option when I need just a light layer.
Your Turn
What are your favorite layers to style? When you think of layers, do you think of adding things on top, like I do? Both of my daughters, their families, PC and I are all going to Santa Fe, New Mexico the first week of January. I am so excited. Have begun buying base layers to wear under our snow pants and jackets. My sister and brother introduced me to 32degrees.com last year when I was looking for warm layers. They have great play-in-the-snow pieces at very inexpensive prices. If you are looking for layers to keep you warm this winter, check them out.
And now, let’s check out the layers my Ageless Style gal-friends are styling today.

Gracias
Two posts today. It’s going to snow!! Now I need to jump on the treadmill, then into the shower, and off to the commissary for all the Thanksgiving goodies. I am grateful to you for spending a few minutes of your day visiting me. If you are a blogger, I will be popping in to say hi this weekend.
Hugs and kisses,
Marian
I have been following your blog for quite a while and love what you have to say except when you put yourself down. Today really got to me when you said your hips and tummy were blubber and you could hibernate like a bear. When I see you in your photos, I don’t see any of that. Just a beautiful woman with a zest for life. Please don’t put yourself down. At our ages, I am 71, it’s so difficult to lose weight. You should enjoy life, and not be so hard on yourself. You’ve been there, done that. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family!

Thank you for this thoughtful comment. You really spoke to me. I don’t really mean to put myself down. It is just the way I see myself. But you are right, I need to embrace all of the positives and not call attention to those things I see as negatives. Thank you, Marian. Thank you for saying I have a zest for life. You warmed my heart, and got my attention and I am going to do better. Hope you will stick around to hold me accountable if I slip!!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Thank you for being my friend.

That blazer is something else Leslie, and it will be such a hard working topper.
I’ve been trying to remember to layer both over and under, because it gains you so many more possibilities,

Ooo, I love the way you put it…a hard working piece. When my daughters were much younger we liked to watch Toddlers and Tiaras (I know). There was an adorable but semi-obnoxious little girl on one season who spoke like a college graduate at the age of 3 or 4, and sucked on a pacifier. She called her paci ‘nee-nee’ and would say that ‘Nee-nee is a hard working lady.’ Your comment made me laugh!! My blazer is going to be a hard working topper indeed.
Joanne
Love the outfit (and I too definitely thought of layering over not under!). That is such a lovely graphic tee.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you. We don’t have Maurice’s here so I picked up the tee in Tennessee when I was visiting my sissy. It is on sale now, so treat yourself to one!!
Sally in St Paul
I enjoyed seeing how your styled this fall-perfection blazer in more casual outfits. I love a graphic T + blazer look – it’s just such a great combination of easy casual and simple polish.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Sally. I really, really like this blazer. Have a number of heavier blazers but this one is just right…as Goldilocks would say. Thank you again.
Kellyann Rohr
You are so kind to share my look Leslie, such an honor sweet friend!
I love YOUR look, don’t you feel so edgy wearing a graphic tee with that blazer and mixing up the shoes/belt color?! It works and you look fantastic!
Hope you have the best Thanksgiving!
xo,
Kellyann

Thank you so much, my sweet friend. I am glad to show off your darling faux leather dress and all the ways you styled it. Excited for my Halftee to arrive so I can try it out with my jumpers.
This grandma lvoes feeling edgy these days and you are right, I like the play between structured and fun, and mixing up the shoes and belt colors. I didn’t know getting dressed could be so liberating.

I saw this blazer at ON and was drawn to it as well, but then I walked away. But now, I am realizing what a great purchase it would have been. I absolutely love the way you’ve styled it and I am going to borrow that first look to recreate for next week! If I remember I’ll snap a picture and give you the nod for inspiring me. Love the denim skirt look. Oh and those cute little white boots. Lesely, this might be a favorite for me! Have a great weekend.

Thank you so much for this very sweet compliment. The weight of this blazer is perfect for 3 out of 5 seasons here in El Paso. Hope you have creating a similar look.
Amy Johnson
I love the look of the blazer with a graphic tee!
Dara
I will layer with a jean jacket or a cardigan pretty often! I don’t have a blazer but yours looks great.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you. I think you would look so cute in an oversized blazer. Try one this winter!!
mireille
I have 2 thrifted (yup, thrifted) blazers but they are fitted and cropped. I still need to try one cut differently! One of my favorite Halftee is the long sleeve lace one! I was jealous you used KellyAnn’s code instead of mine, lol! I am still waiting on my skirt I ordered a couple weeks ago from them. I might have to use my code today to get one more thing!

Leslie Roberts Clingan
Is your code still active? I would love to get the same pink halftee you styled. It is so cute. And I was toying with the idea of a lace halftee, too. Can’t wait to get my first one and play with it. Thank you!!
Mica - Away From The Blue
That is such a great blazer on you! I like how flexible blazers can be with other items, they really pair with anything, and I like wearing mine with tees too. This is a great theme and you met it so well 🙂
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you so much!! I love this blazer. Love that it has the magenta stripe. My black blazer was getting jealous of all the attention this plaid one was getting so I wore it today.
Marsha Banks
How did I miss this blazer? But, I don’t buy blazers so I probably walked right by it. You have styled it perfectly with that graphic tee and mules. I cannot, for the life of me, keep mules on my feet. My left toes don’t grip due to my two surgeries so I always walk right out of them!
You, my friend, are a delight, and I love reading everything you write!

I have been surprised that I haven’t fallen all over El Paso in my mules. Of course, there’s always a chance that will happen next time I wear them. I have pitiful feet with lots of issues but no surgeries. These are actually very cushy and comfy.
You are so kind, Marsha. Thank you for being my friend. This Thanksgiving I am grateful for the blogger friends I have never met but still care so much about. You are at the top of the list. XO
Deb
You look absolutely great! I think that jacket is going to get a lot of wear, it’s so versatile 😊
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, friend!! I have worn it at least once a week since I bought it. Saw the prettiest magenta top over the weekend that would look swell with it. Might have to use some of my kitty sitting money to get it.
Christie Hawkes
You look great as always Leslie! I wish I had half the fashion sense you do.
