Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award Q&A and a Quote

sis
Hey Gals!
A few weeks ago, I was challenged by my friend Katie at The Mishaps and Mayhem of a Solitary Life to participate in the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award by answering some questions she posed to ten of her blogger buds.  Once I answer Katie’s questions of me, I am supposed to come up with questions of my own for ten of my blogger friends and pass the baton to them.
sister
Here’s my problem.  I love to do things like this, can answer questions all day long and then write questions for someone else to answer all the next day.  But I don’t know if I know 10 bloggers to tag with this.  I will worry about that in a bit.  Let’s move on to Katie’s Kwestions.
How has blogging enhanced your life?
I have always loved to write but haven’t always set aside time to do it.  Blogging has become my avenue for creative writing.  And though I doubt the world would come to an end if my blogging did, I feel a kind of responsibility to post every few days, just in case I am not talking to myself!
What’s your favorite guilty pleasure show?
Easy.  Anything Bachelor/Bachelorette related.  A given.  I love fairy tales.  I love once upon a times and happily ever afters (thus the name of this blog!) and even though the track record of success among couples who met through Chris Harrison isn’t too keen, I still watch every single episode of every single show.

What are you reading now?
I am kind of in-between books right now.  My daughter Lauren loaned me A Fever in the Heart:  And Other True Cases by Ann Rule on my Nook and I just started it.  Am waiting til payday to order either Pomegranate written by Ysella Fulton, an El Paso gal and friend of a friend OR My Mother’s Secret (Holocaust) by J.R. Witterick OR The Magic of Thinking BIG by David J. Schwartz (recommended by Anna at The Blondissima of the Style Me Bloggers) OR The Power of Praying for Your Adult Children by Stormie Omartian.  I am also trying to decide about doing a book study on strengthening your marriage so have downloaded about a dozen samples from books about building a successful marriage.  And rereading a favorite folktale for my next Thank Goodness It’s Fairy Tale Friday (TGITTF) or in this case Folk Tale Friday.
sister2

What are three things you can’t live without?
My family, my family and my family.  I would also throw in my animals but they are family.  And chocolate, but it runs a very poor fourth place to my family, my family, my family…which includes YOU, my friends.
Morning Person or Night Owl?
More of a morning person than a night owl.  Although, I don’t relish getting up too early in the morning.
sister1
What season do you think is easiest to dress for?
Here in El Paso probably spring.  We never have severe winters so spring comes along in early March.  It is easy to layer clothes, wear cardigans or light jackets over sleeveless or short sleeve tops or dresses.  It is just terribly windy in March so hold on to your hats!  This is a photo from March 2011.
sister3
[source]
Have you ever done anything that’s taken you out of your comfort zone?  If so, what?
Zip-lining in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.  The ride out to the zip-lining park was almost as harrowing as the zip-lining itself.  Actually, I did ok on lines 1-8 but then I woke up and realized what I was doing and a mini-panic attack set in.  I hung in there, though, and finished the course.
sister5
Where is your favorite place to visit?
The BEACH!!!  Not a bit particular which beach.  Just give me sun, sand and salty water.
sister6
What genre of music is your favorite and why?
I like country music probably best of all.  PC says the lyrics and melody of all country music sound the same but I disagree.  One of my all-time favorite country music videos and songs is Just a Dream by Carrie Underwood.  At the beginning of school for several years, I would teach my students about Veteran’s Day (we live in a big military town), and the sacrifices our soldiers make for all of us.  I would collect toiletries then have the children make cards and guardian angels and put it all in a care package for a local soldier stationed in Afghanistan or Iraq.  I played this video to illustrate the ultimate sacrifice some soldiers give.  But this video is also excellent for illustrating tone and mood, using symbolism to drive home a message.  If you haven’t seen it, please take a few minutes to watch.  I will never forget how it moved my students every single time I showed it.
What would your perfect day entail?
Going to the beach with my family.  Eating junk food, laying in the sun, reading a good book, riding the waves on my boogie board, snorkeling around the reef, then sitting on the porch of my beach house (preferably someday my own beach house) and enjoying a glass of wine at sunset.  Finally, falling asleep to the sound of the surf.  Vamos a la playa!
sister7
So, there are my answers to Katie’s great kwestions.  Now to challenge some of my blogger buds to participate in the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award.  I challenge thee…Jennie at A Pocketful of Polka Dots, Carrie at Curly, Crafty Mom and Jill at Doused in Pink, Sheila at Making the Most of Every Day and Becky at Choose Happy to share a little bit about yourself by answering the following:
  1. What’s your favorite physical feature and personality characteristic (of yourself) and why?
  2. Describe your favorite accessory.  Shoes, jewelry, purse?  Why is it your favorite?
  3. If you could have dinner with someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
  4. For what would you like to be remembered?
  5. List your favorite five things in your house.
  6. What is your favorite indulgence?
  7. In what way(s) do you express your creativity?
  8. What do you collect?
  9. What is your love language, physical touch, words of affirmation, acts of service, quality time (spent with the one you love), receiving gifts?
  10. What are you looking forward to in the coming new year?

Ok, gals…your turn!  Hope to hear from you soon with your answers.  Be sure to tag me with your responses!

One last thing, before I watch Bachelor in Paradise.  I was also tagged by my sweet Katie to share a favorite quote/kwote for three Mondays in a row.  Last week, I shared an Anne Frank quote.  You can read it here.  Today I am sharing a quote from Mother Teresa.  I had another one by her picked out to share but made a switcheroo at the last minute.  I would venture to say any quote by Mother T. is a jewel.

And now I must bid you goodnight.  Bachelor in Paradise awaits!

Hugs and kisses,

leslie

Oooh, I just love these kinds of posts, too! I will definitely answer your questions. I want to zip-line, but I have a fear of heights and I am so scared to try it. I also love country music!! And, I couldn’t live without my family either. They are my all 🙂

Carrie I’m afraid of heights too but did the same zipline as Leslie! I think the kids in line that said ” hey if those old people can do it, we can too” inspired me to show them who was old! 🙂
Pretty sure I never looked down though! 🙈

I so enjoy reading these posts and I always LOVE to know what you’re reading. You have been my encouragement that it’s ok to ready “kids”s book as an adult. I also see you as the creative writer through your blog. So glad this is an outlet for you. Have a great week!

Absolutely ok to read kids’ books! At any age. I am really struggling right now to find an adult book I am sold on. Might just pick a kid’s book a get on with it.

Zip-lining would be a breeze for someone who has jumped out of planes like you!! I was glad I finished the course, too, but sure had a case of the nerves right in the middle.
