Palsy walsies, it’s 06.10…so, it’s time for another installment of 10 on the 10th. Today we’re sharing our 10 favorite things about summer. Officially, we still have a few weeks left of spring. But here in El Paso we have had about a week’s worth of triple digit temps. Even breaking records for the earliest day of triple digit heat in El Paso’s recorded history. Looks like this summer might be a hot one!
And it will probably be a strange summer, unlike any other, if Covid-19 doesn’t hurry up and skiddadle. That being said, some of my favorite things about summer might not be doable this year. So, I decided to incorporate some of the things I have enjoyed over my many summers past. Cause who knows how summer 2020 is going to look!
My 10 Favorite Things About Summer
- Baseball games with fireworks afterwards
- Beach vacation or some sort of getaway (or at least daydreaming about it)
- Birthday celebrations and family reunions
- Catching lightning bugs (or ladybugs lately) and releasing them, of course
- Spending time in and around our pool
- More daylight with the sun setting after 8:30
- Outdoor activities like Shakespeare on the Rocks, Music under the Stars, Viva El Paso, water parks, amusement parks
- Patio dining at home or when eating out
- Slower pace of life – sleeping later and staying up later
- Wearing kimonos and shorts & sundresses and sandals
With the exception of the outdoor activities I enjoy, and maybe the beach vacation or getaway, I should still be able to relish in most of my favorite things this summer. Take that, Covid 19.

The best thing about Summer for me is:eating outside and bare feet and legs!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yes!! Bare feet and legs. Great bonus in the summer.

I always look forward to summer for the hot and sunny days, helps my joints and muscles feel better 🙂
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yes, the warm weather helps my daughter, too. PC is struggling again with his hips and back. The ablation treatments are working for shorter amounts of time. Glad you are able to feel better, my friend.
Deb
All the open air activities – (over here we always have to have a ‘plan b’ in case the weather changes!) and eating outside – that’s what summer is all about. Not to mention pretty summer clothes!
Rebecca Jo Vincent
Kimonos… YES!! I’ve been trying to find some new ones for the season! If you have a go-to place, let me know 🙂
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yay for kimonos. Mine all seem to have the same colors for the most part. I would like one in bright red and maybe something with yellow. I will keep my eyes open and let you know if I stumble across a good place to buy.
Dara
Definitely the slower pace! Happy summertime!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yes to slower pace. This week is my week off from babysitting and I am glad to be home to enjoy the slower pace.

I love the extra daylight! And the warm weather is fabulous!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you for joining me for 10 on the 10th, new friend!! I love the extra daylight, too. Except lately I am so tired, I want the sun to set so I can legitimately go to bed!!
Trista
Longer daylight hours, gardening, and our annual trip to the beach are favorites of mine!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yay for annual trips to the beach. Hope you are able to keep up the tradition this year!! Thank you for finding me and leaving a comment.

I love patio eating too! My kids beg me to have lunch and dinner outside all the time. They would probably eat breakfast out there if they could. We are lucky this house typically has nice breezes and isn’t too buggy!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Love that your babies like to eat outside. My Lucia is anxious to eat out on our patio. They will be here Thursday for a swim and dinner. Hope the weather is cooperative.

Patio dining…for sure. I’m not in a huge hurry to get back to restaurants but the Uncle Julio’s near us as the nicest patio – and we would like to go there just for that reason! Ok, the nachos are pretty tasty, too…but it all just taste better on the patio!! Hope your summer is a sweet one no matter what might look different!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Ha!! Love your response. We indulged in patio dining this weekend and it was glorious. I hope you guys get into Uncle
Julio’s in the very near future.

Wow! Triple digits already?! We had temps in the 80’s this week and with all the added humidity and pollen it was so hard to breathe. I was pleasently surprised that most of my favorites can be enjoyed this year too!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
We have very little humidity so when it rains, we all struggle to breathe in the moist air. I grew up in Memphis and the air was like soup! So I love our dryness.

I’m going to work on my summer bucket list this weekend. A lot of things have been opening up here and I refuse to stay at home, I will just go batty… so, I’ve been venturing out and being as safe as I can. My kiddos all return back to their dance, karate, cross country, etc. next week, so so much for lazy summer days for us… I’ll be driving them all over again. I am hoping to visit a new winery with Brian this weekend and I can’t wait. I bet you’ll really enjoy your pool this summer with Covid canceling most peoples vacations! We had Aut’s dance nationals in Myrtle Beach in July and they canceled the dance national and we had thought maybe we’d still go… but, then Delta messed our flight times up so bad that we couldn’t make the connecting flight, SO we just canceled it. BUT, we did rebook another trip in our state of Missouri at a nice relaxing resort. I can’t wait!

We are really getting use out of our pool this summer. With all its flaws!! At least it holds water. Ha!
Yay for a resort vacay even if it is there in Missouri. I would love to just spend the night in downtown El Paso.
Just want to feel normal again!!
Gale
I think we had three things in common between our two lists. Here’s to hoping we can enjoy all 10 of our favorites this summer! Stay cool!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you so much for joining me for 10 on the 10th. Please join me again in July.
April
I am new to the 10 on the 10th linkup. I wonder if I could get one done in time. It’s still the 10th… I always enjoy your posts!
Leslie Roberts Clingan

Hotdog roasts – nature walks – the garden growing – fishing – flowers blooming – butterflies – the smell of fresh cut grass – milkshakes – reading out on the shaded deck – Grands visiting.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Great list!! Butterflies!!! Fresh cut grass!!! Love them both. Come play with us for the next 10 on the 10th in July.

Those of us down under in Oz are heading into Winter – and your Summer list reminded me of how much I’m already looking forward to putting covid and the cold weather behind me and start thinking about warm days again. We just booked a week away on a little island off the coast from where we live – we’ve been there for the last few years and it’s just reopened – that’s what I’m looking forward to most this Summer!
Thanks for linking up with us at MLSTL and I’ve shared on my SM 😊
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, I hope to heavens Covid is behind us by the time you head into summer and we head into winter. How fun to be making plans for an island get away. Can I come, too?
Debbie Harris
I love your summer list Leslie, as we head into winter here! Your list reminds me of what I have to look forward to, and I do hope you can get out and enjoy your summer activities without Covid hanging over your heads. Take care and enjoy those warm temps #mlstl
Leslie Roberts Clingan
It is nice to have summer to look forward to. My favorite season is fall so in the heat of El Paso’s summer I am always looking forward to the cooler temps of autumn.
Kellyann Rohr
I love the longer days! Patio dining is out for us because of the heat and humidity but I do enjoy days by the pool with cocktails and snacks!
xo,
Kellyann
Leslie Roberts Clingan
We haven’t eaten outside yet but hope to tonight. Snacks and wine are better for us, too, because of the heat.
ShootingStarsMag
There’s definitely a lot that’s different about this summer, but I’m still trying to enjoy what I can. I’ve been swimming a lot and that’s always a summer favorite for me.

Good for you to be swimming more. We are, too!!
