Happy Sunday, girlsies!
Writing today to share progress on my 2018 winter bucket list. And there is not a lot of activity to report! You probably don’t even need to sit down to read this one, it’ll be so quick. Have decided that while my winter bucket list was not as specific as my other lists have been (autumn, summer and spring), it has been harder to get excited about. Maybe I need specifics like ‘feed some ducks’, ‘begin Bible journaling’, ‘make crepes’ (none of which happened from autumn’s list, however) to guide me. On this season’s list I said ‘continue work on craft projects’ which is kind of a snooze fest. Do you know what I mean? Does that make sense? I’m going to perfect this bucket list writing business one way or the other! Stick around.
2018 Winter Bucket List
Here’s a reminder of the items on this winter’s list.
I feel like I’ve already blown it in so many ways. Ugh. Can we just move on to spring?
Susie Homemaker
- Make Grandma Rosebrough’s cinnamon and orange rolls. Should have done this before starting Weight Watchers. Maybe I will make some and then send them to work with PC.
- Clean house from top to bottom to include purging closet. Well, I took my faux fur vest out of the closet to purge, then tried it on, wore it, fell back in love with it and hung it back in the closet. And that’s the extent of the work toward completing this activity.
- Transfer our homemade wine into bottles to ferment. That is slated for PC’s birthday, 02.28.18. So not a lost cause yet.
A Family Affair
- Take a picture with all the girls. We were all together for two days the first of this month. I took pictures of Lauren, Lucia, Brennyn and Cady but we don’t have a single photo of the five of us together. Might have to photoshop this into fruition.
- Plan a special weekend with PC. Last night, I started looking on the Internet for places we could go for a romantic get-away. Was thinking how beautiful Durango, Colorado would be this time of year. Nixed that when I remembered how PC dislikes snow. When we woke up this morning, the government had shut down, which means PC won’t be going to work for now. Which means PC won’t be getting a paycheck until he does go to work. Which means, for now, we need to pretend our house is a bed and breakfast.
- Skype with Cady and Lucia. I have done this once with each baby since we were last together over the holidays. More to come.
Crafty Like a Fox
- Become more confident with my camera. Have made a little headway on this. Signed up for the 52Frames photo challenge. Will share some of my photos in a future post. But the prompt for this week was ‘leading lines’. They are explained on 52Frames as “… lines [that] often point to a specific subject, for example, a person, or a vanishing point in the background but sometimes the lines just lead your eye into the photo.” I haven’t submitted my photo for this prompt yet but here are a couple of shots I took trying to use leading lines.
- Continue work on my craft projects. Have been cross stitching. Set aside the mosaic for a bit because I am scrapbooking a lot right now. Still working on finishing up photos from last Christmas. Want to do our trip to Germany before it becomes a blur. And this Christmas, and all of the recent Easters. Now that’s what I should have written as my activity! This a picture of the scrapbook page I am working on right now.
- Attend a craft class. Ok, I wore my faux fur vest to Hobby Lobby for painting class last Wednesday only to get there and discover that classes are postponed until February. Will try again next month.
Beauty and the Beast
- Try 5 new Weight Watchers recipes; track points M-F. Shared a delicious recipe for Italian turkey and spaghetti squash casserole, here. Have more recipes for Tasty Tuesdays in the near future. I’ve tracked my points for 10 days. And only gained .2 pounds. Impressive.
- Get back to lifting weights 4X a week…keep track. Off to a slow start but this week we did lift weights 3 times, I think. Obviously not keeping very good track. But check out my new active wear. It’s great for lazy days at home.
- Continue with Miracle Morning, read Finding Your Balance. Yup, but want to do this more faithfully over the weeks to come.
Writing on the Wall
- Add two new lessons to my Teachers Pay Teachers store. Not yet.
- Create a blogging schedule and follow it. Girls, I have indeed done this. Yessiree Bob! Put all of the link-ups into my Erin Condren planner for the whole year and have penciled in my own posts as well. How’d ya like them apples?
- Write my mom a letter with pictures several times a month. My first letter went out a week ago with photos from Christmas and my trip to Albuquerque. Making homemade bread this weekend from the yeast starter that was my mother’s grandmother’s. Will send photos of my bread in my next letter.
So, see what I mean? That’s my first 2018 winter bucket list update. Not exactly setting the world on fire over here. And last night I hit my left foot on the bathroom door frame. May or may not have broken it. Bruised and swollen til I can’t get on shoes. Will see how she looks in the morning. But this may further damper my progress for a bit.
Your Turn
Tell me true, did you make a winter bucket list? How are you faring on the activities you planned to undertake? With 2 more months of winter to go, we are both sure to have great progress to report on our next update, 02.21.2018.
Please take a moment to check out the updates of my bucket list blogging buddies. And if you have a bucket list post to share, link-up with us below.
In the coming week, I hope to have a few more posts put together. Maybe even another visit to my fashion haus. Hope you will stop back by when you have a moment. Have a safe, warm week, sweet friends.
Hugs and kisses,
Sheila DelCharco
I think you did alright considering all the set backs! I did not make a winter bucket list but I did make NY resolutions! And I’m doing a Reading Challenge! Does that count? I love your leading lines photos! A+!!

Leslie, it’s about forward progress, not perfection! And, I see lots of lots of progression, so buck up girl!
Love the photo of your littlest munchkin with her mama . . . so sweet! I know what you mean about getting everyone all together for a photo – it’s so darn hard in the midst of grandbaby craziness, isn’t it?
Looks like more than a few of us having losing a few pounds on our agenda this January! I love your workout wear, and yes, it most definitely looks cute enough for both at home lounging, as well as errand running, so enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. 🙂
Leslie Roberts Clingan
You are so correct. I have replayed your wise words several times. Forward progress, indeed. Thought of that all day yesterday. Frustrated that hurting my foot has kept me from running this week but there’s always next week.
Gail
I demand to see Grandma Rosebrough’s cinnamon and orange rolls! It sounds to me that you’ve made good progress! Hope the foot is ok. My only resolution is “get through January.” Horrible month!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Girl! You made me laugh with your comment on Grandma Rosebrough’s cinnamon rolls. I am going to make them. Weight Watchers can take a back seat that day. Will take pics and share with you. Wish we could enjoy one together over tea.
Only eight more days of this ‘horrible’ month. So sorry it has been a struggle for you. Sure loved your cherry jumper and red boots, though. Way to be stylish in the face of adversity and hard days. XO
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yay for you and the reading challenge. Is it Ms. Darcy’s? Are you doing TBB’s gift exchange in February?
Are you finding you miss blogging or not so much? I still teeter between whether I want to continue or not. But hanging in for the time being.
Hugs to you!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I am losing it! I know I responded to your comment but my reply has vanished. Or I dreamed the whole thing.
Which reading challenge are you following? Mrs. Darcy? What are you reading right now?
Now, wait a cotton picking minute…somehow my response is showing now. Geez, time for coffee!! Sorry to be redundant. XO
ShootingStarsMag
I think you did a really good job actually – and you still have time for some of the others! I’ll have my update on the blog tomorrow. I didn’t do AS bad as I thought. LOL
Ooh sorry about your foot. I hope it’s not broken. I’ve fractured my ankle before and it’s the worst!
-Lauren
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, girl, I fractured my ankle in college. You are right, it is the worst. That’s what I got for showing off on ice skates when I could hardly stand up on them! Had to drop out for a semester because I couldn’t get to class on crutches. Foot is much better today. Yay!!
XO
Pat
even if you didn’t do everything on your winter bucket list, you are still inspiring others taking about it. being honest in what you did do, what you still hope to do. And yes, there is still a lot of winter left!
I’m going back to revisit my winter bucket list… I know there are a couple of big ones on there I have not even touched on!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hello, new friend! So glad to have you stop by and leave a comment, too! Glad you found my silliness over here.
You touched my heart by saying I am inspiring others with my bucket lists. Thank you so much! Would love to have you share some of your activities. Our next link up is 2.21 so you and I both have time to check a few more items off our lists.
Hope you will come back to visit when you can. And be sure to say hi! Thank you, Pat. XO

You are so right about the forward progress. Have reminded myself of that this week as I have bemoaned not sticking to WW like I should. Banged my foot and haven’t been very active either. But there’s next week.
Thank you for the comment on my grandbabies. They are treasures. Both have been very sick since we were together. Hate not being able to help them or help their mommies take care of them.
Christie Hawkes
I agree with the other commenters that you’ve actually done pretty well. The idea is progress not perfection, right? 🙂 I am a lifetime Weight Watchers member. I have been tracking much lately, but do attend meetings and recently fixed the Weight Watchers chili for one of my bucket list items. I love your new exercise clothes and the fact that they can double as “comfy” clothes for those lazy days. Thanks again for putting this bucket list link-up together. I love it!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I was a lifetime member of WW until I ate back about five pounds. I really think I set my goal weight too low. Dad gum it. Not sure it can be adjusted. I haven’t attended meetings in a while either. Probably should start again. PC has ball practice on Saturday mornings, our meeting day, so maybe I will go while he is at practice.
So glad you are enjoying the bucket list posts. They are fun and the lists are motivating. I need to remember progress not perfection. Thank you!

LOL at the closet purge. I did the same thing. And I somehow ended up with more stuff than I was throwing away. The Hubs said he’s going to do the purge for me since he’s not as “emotionally invested”. Pfffft I think this is just his way of tossing stuff that he doesn’t like. We’ll see how that goes.
The girls are absolutely adorable. Not that I advocate eating children or anything, but how do you not nibble on those baby cheeks every time you see them?
That shut down. grrrrr That’s all I’m saying about that.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yeah, I am thinking the purge may have to wait. I may not wear everything in my closet every year but I do wear it. And I love my pieces. I know that sounds vain or like my priorities are in the wrong place (my MIL constantly cautions about storing up treasure on earth vs heaven). Nothing I own was expensive but I do like putting together different outfits. We’ll see how I feel this spring. While PC is out of the country for work, I may get motivated to purge. Or not!
Thank you for the sweet compliment on my Cadence and Lucia. I loved seeing them side by side loving one another. I framed that photo and have it out on the end table so I can revisit those chubby cheeks regularly. You Hansel and Gretel eating children reference is so cute.
Shut down was short-lived. Hallelujah!

I love your snowflakes falling on the screen Leslie! I want to improve my photography too so maybe I should take the challenge. I’ve been wanting to clean out my closet but just open the doors and then quickly shut them again! Sigh! You have prodded me to at least make a start. You don’t need Weight Watchers as you look fanatastic – maybe it is in our genes LOL:) I need to start planning for my husband’s 70th birthday in May. He doesn’t want a fuss but a romantic weekend away would be ideal. Have a wonderful week, Cuz and I really enjoyed reading through your bucket list. xx
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Sue. I love the snowflakes on my blog, too. Will miss them when spring arrives and they are no longer appropriate. Or maybe I can pretend I live in Australia part of the year and keep them up 365 days.
Let me know what you come up with for your hub’s 70th. PC’s birthday is the end of February and I would like to do something special. No fuss, as you said, but at least some kind of get away. He will leave for Germany for six weeks of work shortly afterward and we will be apart that whole time. Wish I could win the lottery (just a few thousand) or get a great sub job for a couple of weeks to pay off Christmas and afford a nice birthday adventure for my PC.
Thanks for coming by, sug!
Natalie
Looks like you’re doing pretty well with your list, Leslie. Thanks for sending us the codes for the link up. I hope your foot injury is nothing serious. I look forward to your next update.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Foot is definitely on the mend. No breaks or fractures. Glad I drank all that milk years ago!!

I think you did okay with your bucket list! If you get a few things done, that is still more than if you hadn’t of made a list. I love the idea of mailing your mom letters. My son surprised my mom and mailed her a letter and now they’ve sent a few back and forth. So sweet. Even though she DOES live in town, it is something he can hold on to forever (and my mom, too!). I want to do a Valentine’s craft or something and I’m feeling like I just can’t think of anything… isn’t that terrible?

OH MY GOSH, I love that your son wrote a letter to your mom – a real snail mail letter. How dear. What a keepsake. And how fun that they are now pen pals even though they live near one another. That Nathan is a great boy!
I want to do a Valentine craft, too. Found a wire heart at Dollar Tree and bought it…figured a for a $1 I could use it as is!! Ha! Not terribly exciting, though. May try adding flowers and ribbon to it. Valentine’s Day is a day I don’t care too much for. Might just skip it!
Danielle
I think you have done reasonably well on your bucket list. I love that you fell in love with your faux fur vest again. How fun is that. I like to leave my closet purge until Spring…mostly because it never gets done in the Winter. Haha.
Woot Woot to lifting weights. Haha..you know me. I should have put that on my bucket list too.Great job with your weight watchers stuff. I’ve never completed any weight watchers kind of stuff. I tried recording food once…and hated it and have never tried again. I’m just gonna lift heavy weights and eat all the things (hopefully in moderation). Haha.
Oh that Erin Condren Planner…envious. It looks amazing. That is something I need to do…create my blog planning…then I can actually get myself organized. May have to borrow this idea.
Thanks so much for letting me join you on this. It is one of my favourite blog posts.

You are my weight-lifting muse. I need to work back up to lifting 4 times a week and then increase my weight and reps. If you can maintain your weight by just working out lifting heavy weight, yay YOU!! I have always had to watch what I eat but more so after ‘the change’. Ugh. Another blessing of later middle age.
I do like my Erin Condren planner. And I have been a good girl about putting my blogging plans in there so far. And my dentist appointment. Seems like I am doing a whole lot of link ups, though, and not many posts of my own. So want to work on that. Going to do a love post of some sort on 2/12 if you want to join in.
I am so glad you are doing the bucket list posts with me. It has been wonderful to get to know you better and hope in this new year, we just become better buds. Hope you will head to the farm soon for a little rest and relaxation in February. XO
Karen Strand
Oh Leslie! How I love your blog! I laughed out loud reading how you started to “purge” your fur vest, then tried it on and fell back in love with it! That my friend is exactly how I do a “purge”. My closet is positively bursting with clothes that I never wear, but for some odd reason I think I adore them. Thanks for keeping it real.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I love you! I am chuckling at your comment. We have the best of intentions, don’t we? Maybe this spring I will decide I can live without some of my Loft Outlet tees and years-old sweaters but right now some part of me needs them! Not sure that is healthy but it’s truthful. Thank you for bringing me a laugh and letting me know I am not alone. XO
