Shutterbugs and photography-lovin’ friends, welcome to The World Through My Lens, 07.2020. I am sharing my photos for this month’s prompts for the Sunday Stills photography challenge. June’s World Through My Lens post also featured my first photographs for Patio Postcards’s 2020 Summer Photo Scavenger Hunt (#SPSH). This month, I am continuing to cross off a few prompts from the scavenger hunt list. Thankful to my friend Deb at Deb’s World for inviting me to join the scavenger hunt fun.
THE WORLD THROUGH MY LENS WEEK 27
SUNDAY STILLS, 07.05.2020: Perspectives
My Prince had to drive around Ft. Bliss the other night to determine which buildings his military unit is responsible for need additional lighting. I took advantage of the stormy skies and the historic World War II buildings to snap some pictures. In the first 2 pictures, the car was moving but I kind of like the blurred images. They look like older photographs, vintage somehow.
This third picture was taken outside one of the motor pools PC was inspecting. I was trying to capture the contrast between the soft storm clouds and pastel sunset with the sharper, more in-focus barbed wire.
THE WORLD THROUGH MY LENS WEEK 28
SUNDAY STILLS, 07.12.2020: Sky
On our drive back from an afternoon in Ruidoso, we drove into a 5 minute flash rainstorm. We could see the virga evaporating ahead but by the time we got there, the rain began to fall in earnest.
THE WORLD THROUGH MY LENS WEEK 29
SUNDAY STILLS, 07.19.2020: Wild and Weird
This bush in our backyard looks a little like a wiry version of a hibiscus. It has very similar flowers and leaves. While watering the other day, I noticed this cluster of midnight blue insects on its branches and leaves. When I disturbed the branches, they all flocked to this one hearty bud, covering it almost entirely. Kind of wild and weird.
Best I can tell from a minute’s research on the Internet, these little fellas are bordered plant bugs, and won’t damage my bush. They sure are a pretty color.
THE WORLD THROUGH MY LENS WEEK 30
SUNDAY STILLS, 07.26.2020: Yellow
This yellow duck was pedaling outside one of the shops in Ruidoso. We walked the length of the main drag, stopping only to go into our favorite homemade soap store, All Lathered Up, and to buy a couple of bottles of wine at Noisy Water Winery. In masks, of course. We felt fairly safe visiting this mountain village as it has only reported 19 Covid cases. But still didn’t tarry. We were headed home in about an hour.
2020 SUMMER PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT (#SPSH)
Also participating in the virus edition of the 2020 Summer Photo Scavenger Hunt (#SPSH) – hosted by Patio Postcards. She describes the scavenger hunt like this: “There’s some searches for at home, close to home or away from home. I hope some encourage you to think outside of the box & some that may require an open eye to find. One rule … use photos you have taken between June 1st & September 30th of 2020, other than that, it’s meant for fun. Find some or find all, I hope everyone has fun with it.”
It has been fun for me.

My Finds 07.2020
- #4, a toy you play with: a balloon or as this little angel calls them – balloom. This was Lucia’s first attempt at blowing one up. You can tell by her crossed-eyes that it took everything she had in her to inflate it the tiniest bit.
- #8, a leaf longer than your hand: palm fronds, except I am not sure which is the ‘leaf’ part the entire frond or the individual needle
- #9, something that starts with the initial of your name (first or last): lake in Ruidoso, New Mexico, at the Inn of the Mountain Gods casino = Leslie Roberts Clingan
- #10, an object smaller than a paper clip: before we entered the dog days of summer, Lucia and I enjoyed several walks to her neighborhood park to hunt ladybugs.
- #16, rough texture: the glass in our front door has a texture that makes it almost opaque. When the paramedics and fire department were called in the middle of the night for our neighbor, I noticed the lights of the emergency vehicles glowing through the glass.
- #17, something naturally round: our peaches are in abundance!! This is the third bushel basket full and our little tree still has fruit.
- #18, something that can go in the water: rubber duckies, of course. In all matter of brightly colored costumes.
Now that I have figured out how to use my phone again as a remote for my good camera, I need to get back to using it more often.

Deb
What great photos, that one of the rainstorm in the distance -wow!
Great finds for the scavenger hunt – coincidently while I was outside doing some gardening yesterday I came across a little ladybird and snapped it for the ‘smaller than a paperclip’ prompt! The peaches in that blue bucket are fantastic, the colours are so bright and I can almost feel the fuzzy texture of the fruit.

Great minds think alike. We have been very much into ladybug this spring and summer over here. Thank you!!

Beautiful photos! I just love that sky photo with the rain off in the distance. You can really see where the rain is coming down.

Thank you. I enjoy taking pictures so much. And enjoy seeing those you take on your blog. The crystal clear lake water. The forested hiking trails.

A wonderful collection of images for July, Leslie! Your perspective shots were on point! I bet you get great shots regularly of rain clouds with the monsoon activity you get all summer!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Terri. The perspective shots were kind of an accident. Just shooting the old buildings then realized they showed great perspective.
Kellyann Rohr
You do such a great job Leslie! I wish I could take a decent picture. Why can’t I live in El Paso???
