Howdy friends,
Running at least a day late and always a dollar short with this post! Scrambling to get it done, even now. Put my Brennyn and Cady on a plane today, then took down all of the winter/holiday stuff and replaced it with Valentine’s Day decor. Too early? Nah, never too early for love. But look what I spotted today.
Yup, that’s Easter. Too early in my book. What say you?
Combining my TBB Asks with my Currently for a two-fer today. The Blended Blog sponsors TBB Asks the first Monday of the month, and Currently with Anne in Residence is the first Wednesday of the month. Join us in February.
TBB Asks: Keep Me Entertained
- Books you’ve read multiple times: Rarely read or watch anything more than once but did read Alice in Wonderland as a child and again as a mommy.
- Favorite book/author of all time: Anne Frank; so wise for her years.
- Favorite TV show to binge: Really don’t binge unless my PC is bingeing. Then it tends to be “The Office” or “Seinfeld”.
- Favorite new-ish TV show: “A Million Little Things”.
- Favorite movie of all time: Probably a tie between “Schindler’s List” and “Saving Private Ryan”.
- Movie you are looking forward to watching: “Welcome to Marwen”, “Green Book”, “Mary, Queen of Scots”.
- First concert you attended: I am not positive but either the Carpenters or Chicago would be my guess.
- Ultimate concert (even if it can’t happen): Eagles, reunited from heaven and earth.
- Favorite artist/band: John Denver/Eagles.
- How do you listen, streaming, CDs, vinyl: Vinyl. My daughter Lauren gave me a great record player for my birthday a few years ago. Love to play my JD vinyl on my record player while cleaning house.
Currently, 01.2019
Making this a double feature by adding my most belated responses to Anne’s Currently prompts for the first month of the year. The prompts are: choosing, exploring, refreshing, resolving, tidying.
Choosing: New fragrances Bath and Body Works at their semi-annual sale. One of my favorite fragrances ‘leaves’ is on sale, 6 wall flowers for $18.00.

Also planning on making my own Poo Potpourri. The recipe calls for 3 ingredients: equal parts water and rubbing alcohol with drops of the essential oil you like best. Found and pinned two slightly different versions, one from Happy Money Saver and the other from Holistic Health Herbalist. Get small spray bottles a your neighborhood dollar store. One tip…spray the water in the toilet bowl before you use the bathroom!!
Exploring: Options for companion care for my mom, now that she is back home in her new efficiency apartment. While I was in Kentucky last month, we moved mom from a 2 bedroom apartment to a very small, single room efficiency. But it has everything she needs – kitchenette with small frig, microwave, sink, lots of cabinet space; large bathroom with plenty of room for her walker and her; sitting area and bed.
Because she is losing her eyesight, and relies on a walker to get about, this stream-lined space makes more sense for her. And we have hired a Senior Helper for companion care to help mom with daily tasks. Here’s the package we chose:
Senior companion care services include, but are not limited to:
- Caring companionship and conversation
- Help with hobbies
- Scrapbooking
- Artistic pursuits
- Playing games
- Gardening
- Sports & news
- General shopping and errands
- Transportation
- Doctor visits
- Religious services
- Community events
- Visiting family and friends
- Assistance with pet care
- Reminder services (medications, dates, routines, etc.)
- Meal preparation
- Light housekeeping
- Errands
- Prescription pickup
- Dry cleaning
- Grocery shopping
- Home safety evaluation
Refreshing: my goal board. It has been stuck on ‘spring’. Maybe I should have just left it alone because spring will be here before we know it. But really want to concentrate on seasonal goals again.
Resolving: a couple of things…get this booty back in the gym, to get back to a alcohol only on weekends, to get dressed (not in sweats or active wear) every time I go somewhere (other than the gym) and several other wellness-related items. Had on joggers and a hoodie to take Bren and Cady to the airport but took myself back upstairs to put on my new over-sized sweater from J.Roberts in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Might be cute with my faux leather leggings!
Hope you’ll come back Wednesday to check out my Wellness Wednesday, 2019 goals.
Tidying: the front yard. I wasn’t home enough during the holidays to get much decorating done. Usually have my wheelbarrow decorated on a seasonal theme. But scooted it out of the way for now. Will get it back out for spring. Today, I sprayed for weeds in our rocks and created a little tree of love.
Your Turn
Now I want to hear what you’re currently up to as we kick off 2019! Tell me, what are you choosing, exploring, refreshing, resolving, tidying? And then come on back February 6, when we’ll talk what we’re currently anticipating, going, making, watching, and wearing.
Thanks for coming by, girls! Hope you will pop in tomorrow because I have been invited to be a guest host with some pretty amazing fashionistas for Ageless Style. Pinch me!!
Hugs and kisses,
Laura
I agree that it is never too early for love! I’m struggling this year with whether to put up Mardi Gras decor of VDay things. I am so glad that you were able to find some assistance for your mom. I know that she will be happy and well taken care of. Happy New Year, Leslie!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, I love Mardi Gras! Love love love New Orleans. Have made some very special memories there with my girls. But have never been there for Mardi Gras. Maybe I will mix in a little purple, green and gold with my Valentine’s Day stuff. Where do you get your Mardi Gras decor? I have seen it through Oriental Trading Company but not in a brick and mortar store. Thanks for the inspiration!

I really love The Eagles, too! 🙂 I haven’t been in Bath & Body Works in awhile, but I love their Wallflowers! I haven’t smelled Leaves. You are taking such good care of your mom!! Wow, that sounds like a great package for her. I think a smaller space is what she needs. I just love your tree of love! One of my goals this year on the blog is to do less sponsored stuff and get back to doing some more crafting posts, which is why I started blogging! I’m hoping to do some V-Day stuff.

I want to get back to doing some craft stuff, too. It always feels so good to make something cute, huh? And you are the queen of cute! Didn’t get my Wallflowers ordered so going to hit the store this weekend. Haven’t had a coupon from Bath and Body since before Christmas so decided to hold out on ordering until I get a coupon. Cheap that way!!
Debs
Such a cute tree! I noticed Easter eggs for sale in the supermarket this week – far too early.
Sounds like you have chosen well for your Mum’s care – I have a 91 year old mother in law and I think this is something we may have to investigate this year, not sure how much longer she can live on her own without some kind of care assistance.
Love that baggy jumper you are wearing, looks so cosy!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Debs, I have worn the tail off that baggy jumper already. It is so comfy and surprisingly warm even though it is an open weave. Had the sweetest compliment on my Valentine tree today. A little neighbor girl passed by while I was sweeping the porch and told me how much she and her family love my decorations. Made my day, along with your sweet compliment. Thank you, friend.

This Sunday begins our holiday dismantling and I am sliding right into Valentines day. My family wanted to keep the hall lights up, so I’m thinking I might be able to swap the Christmas accents for V-Day, and then…maybe St. Pats. But if it starts to look tired or dusty, I will anxiously take it down. I think it has to go so we can miss it.
We’re with PC…looooove The Office and Seinfeld here.
AND we are once again on the same wavelength with regard to clothes. I am saying goodbye to my favorite comfies that keep me warm but would keep me from answering the door. If I couldn’t wear it to the supermarket, it’s not staying in my closet.
Love your posts!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
You always make me smile, Em. I am going to get really serious in my closet this month. There are some things I like but never wear that need to go to a new home. We have a bin for Candlelighters at our gym so next week, I am going to go through everything in the closet with a fine toothed comb.
I ‘dressed’ for work all three days this week – yay me! The building where I work should be condemned. In fact, OSHA paid a surprise visit while I was in Kentucky. Thinking a disgruntled former employee turned the business in for the state of the building…filthy, no AC or heat, no hot water, hole in the ceiling. Wondering what, if anything, will happen as a result of their visit.
Even though the building is decrepit, and cold, I like to get dressed like I am going to a real office to work. Just feels good to put on makeup and clean up!
Dara
Seinfeld is great. I’ve seen Chicago in concert too! Hope everything works out with your mom.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Apparently, Chicago is coming to El Paso. Haven’t seen them in 30 years. Wonder if they’ve aged better than I have! Thanks for the well wishes for my mom.

Valentine’s Day isn’t too far away, but Easter might be a bit soon. LOL The companion care option for your mom sounds really good, and I’m glad her new place is better for her to get around in! I’m loving A Million Little Things. I looked up when it comes back and it’s next THURSDAY, which works for me! 🙂

Thanks for letting me know about A Million Little Things. I was afraid I had missed it somehow. Kind of glad they moved it to Thursday because we don’t have anything to watch that night. What is up with that gal Ashley? She seems up to no good. Can’t wait to get the goods on her.
Daenel T.
Praying you find a comfortable place for your mom. I know it’s hard, but I believe God will guide you to the right place.
“A Million Little Things” has fast become a favorite show. I found it on Hulu or was it Netflix? Anyway, I needed something to play in the background while I was editing photos and that came up. So good.
IT IS WAY TOO EARLY FOR EASTER!!!!!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
You know, I looked it up and Easter is on 04.21! Really, really late this year, which makes it even more of a crime that Big Lots has Easter decorations out. Just crazy.
I have been watching Sharp Objects while I iron. It is on Amazon Prime. Really like it but I can miss so much when I glance down at the ironing board. I like to use closed caption, too, and it is kinda hard to read and iron at the same time!
Habiba
Leslie, the pop potpourri had me laughing out loud at first, but after a little thought this is such a clever idea. I haven’t even gotten rid of my Christmas decor yet and I really don’t have that much of winter or Valentine’s Day stuff. I hope your mum is well and that the transition into a new home wasn’t too hard on her and you. We love our parents and yet it is exhausting when our roles switch once we get older. My dad had Altzheimers and passed away this October. Love your goals and the idea of coming up with seasonal goals. I think I can do that, too. Haven’t started because I was overwhelmed to plan out the entire year. I’ll be having exciting times ahead but more on that later.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, Habiba, I am sorry you lost your father in October. How long had he suffered with Alzheimer’s? Such a devastating disease. I am so sorry.
Come join us for the bucket list posts. You can link up your goals or just a list of activities you want to accomplish during this season. We will post again on 01.21. Would love to have you!!
