Good morning, good evening, good night, my friends. Thanks for joining me for Sentence a Day 05.2024 – a monthly review of my May in one run-on sentence a day.
Let me start off by saying that I write these sentences for me. As a way of keeping track of what all has happened and when. I know they are full of drivel and I really don’t expect anyone to wade through all of this wordiness. But it helps me to reflect on each day, and record the important things so I can keep them straight, if not in my mind, on ‘paper’ at least. So, with that being said, please know you are released from any expectation that you need to read every word.
Sentence a Day and OGT
If I don’t blog any more than just my Sentence a Day post, I hope to at least continue to do these posts to help me keep track of LIFE. And when I do manage to get an SaD post together, I am hoping to make the What’s Been on Your Calendar? link-up with Deb at Deb’s World, Sue who blogs at Women Living Well After 50, Donna from Retirement Reflections and Jo who can be found at And Anyways, which opens on the last Friday of each month. We’ll see how things go.
You might remember – or not – that I started sharing OGT – one good thing at the end of each of my run-on sentences. I also use a gratitude journal at night and am in the market for a new one. If you have one you love, please share in a comment below. I will never forget that sweet Carrie at Curly Crafty Mom sent me my first gratitude journal after I read about hers on her blog. I’ve been ending my days with a gratitude journal ever since. Thank you, Carrie. I just purchased a new gratitude journal, that I hope to being with this shiny new month. You can check it out here.
Just a reminder: Once Upon a Time & Happily Ever After occasionally uses affiliate links which are usually italicized. If you click or make a purchase from an italicized link provided I may receive a very small commission at no cost to you. Thank you for your support.
And you can find where I link-up on this page.

1 Sec Each Day
Here is a quick video clip of much of what has happened since my last SaD post in April. Lots of blessings mixed with some trials.
2024 Word of the Year (WOTY)
Last month, I shared that there had been a bit of a shift in my attitude while I was at Brennyn’s house in March for a visit. April was a ‘lighter’ month as that attitude adjustment stuck with me. But May has been a little more of a roller coaster again. And that’s when I struggle with trying to ‘lighten’ up. I get so weighed down with worries and concerns…the exact opposite of lightening up. If I did anything ‘right’ by my chosen WOTY this month, it was in making me time a little bit each day. My days never ever ever look the same and heaven knows, sure as I plan something, LIFE turns things upside down. But I spent time scrapbooking, reading, writing (a bit), exercising, working in the yard. So little victories. Moments of lightness.
A Few OOTDs
Most days you’ll find me in some kind of active wear, if I am going to just be at home. But subbing, taking the girls to school, writing group and church give me reasons to pull of the sweats and comb my hair!! Here are the outfits I wore this month when I wasn’t in shorts and a tee.
- Substitute teaching outfit: this Walmart blazer and this Old Navy tee, jeans and neutral loafers
- Funeral for PC’s friend: dress from New York & Co.
- Subbing: these Old Navy OG loose jeans, southwest flavored graphic tee, Versona fringe faux suede jacket, faux suede flats
- Subbing: old Old Navy skinny jeans, this Old Navy tee, old Old Navy denim jacket, Target denim flats
- Subbing: very old light wash Old Navy jeans, Lucky Brand top, Rack Room navy flats
- PC’s colonoscopy: these Wow straight leg jeans, very old Old Navy blouse and flats, this Loft white linen blend cardigan
- Ironing: just tried these new Gloria Vanderbilt shorts from Belk on before ironing them; Loft navy tee
- Church: old Old Navy maxi dress; very old crocheted top, very, very old sandals from Kohls
- Church: this Walmart blazer, this Old Navy striped tie front tee, these Old Navy jeans
What have you been wearing this spring?
Your Turn
How would you rate your 05.2024? Ours was pretty good. There are always hiccups but overall we survived them and lived to tell about it.
We have a busy couple of weeks coming up…should make for some interesting sentences in June!! I have 3 assorted Rover.com kitty and puppy watching gigs. I am volunteering at Lucia’s school’s field day on Monday. And begin a memoir writing class through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UTEP that same day. PC has another doctor appointment on Tuesday. And starting next Saturday, we will be watching Lucia and Camila while Lauren and Francisco go on vacation abroad. Need to double-up on my vitamins!! What are you up to? Thank you for coming by.
Hugs and kisses,

You are amazing! You work so hard to create a wonderful life for all the people around you. I’ve been praying for you and PC. I do hope Lauren’s spinal tap heals soon and everyone is doing well. Your trip to South Padre sounds wonderful, and family photos will be great. We had ours done last month, but I haven’t heard from the photographer yet. I would imagine this is a really busy time for her.
Take care, my wonderful friend!
https://marshainthemiddle.com/
Oh, hope you will share your family photos when you get them. I am so excited about FINALLY having all of my peeps in one place and in front of a professional photographer!! Hoping our pictures and yours are just sensational.
Hope you have gotten some clarification on where you go with Mike’s health from here. The waiting and looming question marks are the worst. We learned that PC’s PSA is still within undetectable range although it went up somewhat significantly so we are breathing a sigh of relief. And thanking God.
You say the sweetest things and always warm my heart with your words. Thank you.
What a mix of a month, I do hope Lauren is feeling better and is fully healed by the time next month’s round up is written. Not much longer to wait for PC’s retirement, you must be counting the days.
How grown up Cady looks! What a lovely family you have 😊
Isn’t my Cady all grown up? But the little ones are growing like weeds, too. And your grands, as well, I am sure. Enjoying your gorgeous photos from this current vacation. Hope you are having the best time.
Lauren is better today and their trip to Scotland is on. I am doubling up on vitamins in preparation for keeping the girls. Thank you!!
Looks like you had quite a month. My youngest used to cry so much when I used to drop him off at daycare. The funeral sounds lovey. Wonderful pictures.
The funeral for PC’s friend was very moving. Thank you.
May was a pretty fair month. Hoping June is even better. So far, so good!!
Sounds like some great news as far as PC’s health goes! My brother had the same exact problems as Lauren with his first spinal tap not healing itself and the leaking fluid causing all sorts of headaches and assorted problems. I really hope Lauren is feeling better soon. Retirement sounds like it will be here before you know it!
Thank you for sharing about your brother. Lauren has so many bizarre health issues. Like these pseudo tumors. Just crazy. I am sorry your brother has had similar problems after a spinal tap but glad to know Lauren isn’t the only one.
I always enjoy reading your Sentence A Day posts. Its just amazing how the days are long but the years fly by, isn’t it?
That sourdough bread looks awesome! I wish I could get such good bubbles! Hope PC’s last month and a half at work go well!
He is officially retired!! We made it. Now to figure out how he can fill his days. Maybe I can get him to start baking bread.
I don’t know if you recall – you gave me my first gratitude journal and I am very grateful for you! Enjoyed reading what you’ve been up to! The photos from your perfect day are gorgeous! I hope Lauren is feeling better soon. I’m very sorry for PC’s loss.
