Fashionistas, howdy!
Hop on in here and let’s have a look at my fifth outfit for The Blended Blog’s “Summer Style” series. I have to confess, I have spent most of my days this summer in workout gear. Not that I am working out all that much. But for the first time in years, I am seeing a little tone in my upper arms and the return of some muscles in my legs. So I am flaunting my stuff in stretchy yoga pants and tank tops.
Today I had lunch with a long-time teacher-friend, Marcia, who was also Lauren’s first grade teacher. We recently reconnected on Facebook and I even subbed in her second grade classroom before she retired last year. It was cool this morning as I got dressed so I chose a long-sleeved tunic. But the mother of all hot flashes hit me while I was putting on my makeup. I had already begun to wilt before I could get out of the house.
You might remember that early in the summer Deena asked all of us TBB contributors to give her a color, pattern and piece of clothing. She took everyone’s three descriptors and combined them to make the graphic below. We have mixed and matched these descriptors to come up with the outfits for our “Summer Style” series.
See that grey in the first column? That’s the color descriptor I sent to Deena. And the polka dots in the second column is my pattern choice. Tunic in the third column was my clothing piece. Here’s the Polyvore layout I created around those details.
Don’t you love that pillow? I need that in a bumper sticker! Or as a warning label across my forehead. Just ask PC.
Moving right along.
I picked up my grey, polka dot tunic at Loft Outlet early in the spring for a song. You would know that is not entirely accurate if you had heard me sing. But it was a real bargain. Then it got too hot for long sleeves. And I have been showing off my baby arm muscles in tank tops anyway.
So today, when a cold front came through and temps dipped to the mid-90s, I decided to try out my tunic. I paired it with black straight leg jeans from Loft and DSW “Mix No. 6” black flats. My accessories included a long pearl necklace from Charming Charlie, a Loren Hope gold chain bracelet and a “Rosetti” pink bag from Kohl’s.
Remember when my Prince and I helped move Lauren, Francisco and Lucia over the 4th of July? Well, I scored this great dressmaker’s form that Lauren didn’t have room for in her new apartment. Only one slight problem. It was made to Lauren’s measurements…approximately a size 4 figure. I haven’t seen a size four since I was four. But I thought it would be fun to use it in my fashion haus (AKA the spare bedroom upstairs).
I tried this tunic on the form and would have tried the jeans on, too, but it seems this gal is short on legs.
Not to mention a head.
Then I tried it on myself, complete with head and size 8 legs.
Switched out the longer pearls from a shorter, single strand from Amazon. My right breast kept getting lassoed by the longer ones. Traded the black flats for Rack Room silver sandals to show off my rare pedicure.
I have to ask. Who wore it better? The dress form or me?
Or maybe this is the winning look?
I look darn good as a leg-less size 4, if I do say so myself.
If you are in the market for a polka dot tunic, look no further. I took the liberty of shopping for you. Check out these cute options below.
Thanks for playing dress-up with me today.

Ha! I hadn’t worn this piece so thought I needed to break it in with a blog post. Super comf tunic but got super wrinkly when my hot flash hit. No bueno.
