Fashionistas and clothes-wearing friends, thank you for joining me for Ageless Style 12.2022: Blue Jean Baby. It’s the third Thursday which means the Ageless Style gang is back together again. And December’s theme has us styling blue jeans. Some of us are styling skinny jeans. And some of us are styling our favorite alternative to skinny jeans. Then there’s some of us – ME – styling all of the above.
As with all things blogging related, I have been sadly hit or miss in joining the Ageless Style ladies for their monthly series. Last time I participated was October when we shared perfect looks for autumn activities. That was a fun post for me as I used it as an excuse to pack up Lauren and her family, and a reluctant PC for a trek to the pumpkin patch. If you missed that post, please check it out here.
AGELESS STYLE LINK UP
The Ageless Style linkup is hosted by a stylish group of fashion bloggers and me. I always confess that I’m not too sure how I fit in. I guess I do wear clothes!! There’s that. Just thankful these sweet fashionistas have extended me the grace to participate with them when LIFE allows.
Speaking of wearing clothes, I have been participating in the Outfit Formulas Winter 2022 Capsule Wardrobe with Alison Lumbatis along with 2.1K other fashionistas!! I’ve been joining Alison for a majority of the style challenges since the first one in the spring of 2014. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pieces of this winter’s capsule wardrobe. And I think you would, too!! If you’re interested in registering for this season’s outfit formulas, please consider using my affiliate link to do so. I would be much obliged. And would love to see you in the private Facebook group styling your interpretation for each day’s look.
Just a reminder: Once Upon a Time & Happily Ever After occasionally uses affiliate links which are usually italicized. If you click or make a purchase from an italicized link provided I may receive a very small commission at no cost to you. Thank you for your support.
AGELESS STYLE 12.2022
The original idea for this month’s theme was to showcase skinny jeans. But several of the gals are no longer wearing them and asked to sub in the cut of jean they prefer instead. I am still wearing skinnies but have to admit I am awfully glad to see straight leg and flare jeans making a return. Just hoping we don’t go back to those dreadful low rise, ‘plumber’ pants that were popular a decade or so ago. They are no bueno in my book.
Blue Jean Baby
There was a time in my young adult life when I rarely wore pants and never wore jeans. I was so concerned about how big my behind looked in pants that I almost wore dresses and skirts exclusively. So glad I finally got over myself!!
For this month’s theme, I decided to feature my favorite go-to outfit formula for running errands or a casual dinner date with PC. In the warmer months that would be a tee + cardi + jeans. And in the winter, I sub a turtleneck or shirt for the tee. I purchased my long cardi or duster from Birdie & Bree Boutique in Ruidoso, New Mexico, and the 2 Nine West turtlenecks are from Kohl’s. I added layered silver chains and arrowhead-shaped earrings. Switched out the jeans to change each outfit a bit and selected different shoes depending on the cut of the jeans.
So, here we go…take a look at each outfit and decide which one you like best on me. Then leave a comment identifying your favorite choice.
Old Navy Skinny Jeans
First up, my Old Navy Rockstar super skinny, high rise jeans with secret-slim pockets. Now that’s a mouthful.

My skinnies are a darker wash so I opted to pair them with the lavender turtleneck. And black peep toe booties.

When I polled PC at dinner tonight, this was one of his least favorite looks. He doesn’t like the peep toe booties with the little gap of skin showing between them and the cuffed hem of the jeans. Hmmm.
American Eagle Flare Leg Jeans
Next up, American Eagle Ne(x)t Level Stretch high waist flare leg jeans. I wore these the other day and Lauren liked them so much she ordered a pair. With this lighter wash, I wore the darker plum turtleneck. And clogs.

When I put this outfit on, I felt more like me. Can you tell?

These jeans feel easy. Have a little give. And I think they make my legs look longer.
Banana Republic Girlfriend Jeans
This is my newest pair of jeans. I have a pair of distressed jeans that is more holes than jeans. Felt silly wearing them. But they are great for sticky El Paso summers!! Decided I wanted a second pair with more denim and less distressing. Enter Banana Republic’s girlfriend jeans in a medium wash. Darker purple turtleneck and my comfy Moda Chics ankle boots.

Yes, yes, I do know I am 64. Eligible for Medicare in just 4 short months. But I’m not dead yet. These distressed jeans are fun. And comfy. Make me feel young and trendy.

How do you think I feel in this pair of jeans? Hint: they are the ones I featured in the title graphic at the top of the page. Moving on…
Loft Straight Leg Jeans
I have had these jeans probably the longest. Loft curvy straight leg jeans. Bought them when we were just beginning to see the return of straight leg denim. They are so old I can’t find them on Loft.com. And I’ve worn them so much that they are about to become distressed straight legs jeans!! The threads are beginning to wear. Wonder if I will like them even better then??

Darker wash = lighter purple top. And my L’Artiste Kacielou booties. A Christmas present from PC several years ago.

Yup, these jeans have been a faithful fave for several years.
Democracy Bell Bottom Jeans
Ha!! Didn’t realize I had tried on and photographed this many pairs and styles of jeans. Yikes. This fifth pair is probably one of my newest and definitely most expensive jeans. I believe I first saw them on my blogger buddy Daenel at Living Outside the Stacks. I give you the Democracy”Ab”solution blue denim high rise Itty Bitty boot jean. But I am calling ’em bell bottoms because they have quite a bit more flare than any of my other denim.

You know the deal…dark wash denim so I wore them with the lavender sweater. And some very old Newport News purple patent heels. Oh, how I do still love these shoes.

Girls, we are almost done here, I promise. Just one more pair of jeans. Let’s do this thing…
Banana Republic Wide Leg Jeans
Tried to go back through my photos to see just exactly when I bought these pants. Probably 8 years or more ago. Lauren was with me. I couldn’t believe I could get into a size 6 and I made her take a picture in the dressing room. Have since decided that sizes are just a number. Depending on the store, I can wear anything from a size 4 to a size 10 these days, and they are all about the same size!! My Banana Republic high rise wide leg jeans are in a super dark wash. But I bought a second pair in a lighter wash…just because they were a size 6.

Wore these with the lighter sweater and my clogs. Haven’t worn my clogs a whole lot because I tend to walk out of them. Anyone else have that trouble? These jeans are such a dark wash, its hard to see them against the black nightstand behind me.

By this point, I was getting tired. Practically punchy, as my college roommate used to say. Good ole Ann. You’re probably feeling a little punchy, too, looking at all of these jeans. And me in them!!
But before you go, will you just take another quick look and decide which pair you find the most flattering and the most ME?? And then let me know in a comment below. PC has voted. Hoping to get my girls to vote and maybe my sister and brother, too. It will be interesting to see if everyone agrees.
Your Turn
Are you still wearing skinny jeans?? Do you have a favorite go-to pair of jeans? What did you think of those low-rise jeans they were selling us a decade or so ago?? Maybe it was longer ago than that. All I know is I hope they never ever bring them back.
Join me, please, in visiting the blogs of my Ageless Style friends, to check out their denim.

Do you have your holiday shopping done? Can you just relax this weekend and enjoy the season? We are hopping on a plane Thursday morning for Ft. Worth. Going to join Brennyn, Mustafa and Cady in celebrating our sweet baby Declan’s first birthday. What a day that was – his BIRTH-day. So thankful for the blessing of his life and my baby Brennyn’s, too.
Thank you for stopping by. Off to throw things in my suitcase.
Hugs and kisses,

Hi Leslie – I’d go for look #4 the straight leg jeans. I’m impressed with how many different pairs you own. I have a stretch dark wash skinny pair and the same in black, and then a light wash 7/8 cuffed easy fit pair for when I’m out on my scooter or somewhere casual – that’s my full count!
Hi Leanne, I have too many pairs of jeans. But I gave away a handful of straight legs, bell bottoms, flares and then they all came back in style. That taught me to never ever get rid of any clothing. Just kidding, but not exactly! I have too many clothes, more than I can easily wear often. But I have clothes for lots of different occasions and seasons, and trends. And they are all paid for. And most of them fit!!
The Loft straight leg jeans get my vote! I’ve never really taken to distressed jeans, they just don’t feel right on me, yet all you other people manage to look good in them!
isn’t it amazing how many different shapes and style and colours there are now when you go shopping for jeans? You have a great selection and look good in them all!
Yes! I am a blue jeans baby since my teens and I will not be giving them up. I love all styles and cuts. But I do have an issue with my short waist and round belly. So it is an issue of rise not cut of the leg for me.
Rosemary
Jeans are part of my daily uniform, and you have such a great collection! Those distressed jeans are so cute on you! But if I had to pick a favorite, it would be the flares! Happy Holidays!
Jill – Doused in Pink
Thank you!! I think the voting on the best pair of jeans is tied between the flares and the straight legs. Just ordered a second pair of straight legs, this time from Liverpool. Wasn’t sure what size to get since my jeans range from size 4 to size 10!! Went with an 8. Keeping my fingers crossed they’ll fit.
You look great in all of those! Enjoy your posts so much.
Thank you so much for this message. I have tucked it into my heart for times when I wonder if I should keep blogging. It means so much that you enjoy them. XO and merry Christmas.
For a long time the only jeans I could fit into were the Old Navy Rock Star Super Skinny jeans, but they had to be mid rise. I can’t do high rise. And now that’s all they have!
Kellyann Rohr encouraged me to try Rock Star jeans for the first time about 3 years ago. She mentioned that the jeans I was wearing and calling ‘skinny’ were not that at all. She suggested I try Rock Star. They really do hold their shape well and keep things held in pretty well on this 64 year old body. I prefer high rise but my straight legs are midrise and I like them okay, too.
They all look great, but I think my favorite look on you is the straight leg denim.
Thank you so much. I think the straight legs are ahead in the voting.
How funny, I just took photos like this with all kinds of jean silhouettes. I’ll have to link to your post when I post it next year.
Seriously, I’m an equal opportunity outfit lover. I would say they are look great because you took care to find jeans that fit well.

Awww, you are so sweet. I never feel 100% confident about the way my jeans fit. Which probably explains why I have so many pairs and in so many styles. But I am also an equal opportunity outfit lover and willing to give just about any trend a try!!
All these jeans work very well, but I really like the distressed pair with the casual ankle boots!
Thank you for that vote!! Those distressed girlfriends are so comfy. I know distressed jeans don’t get everyone’s thumbs up but they are so soft and broken in. And I think they are kind of fun.
The loft straight leg jeans getmy vote too. And yup, I’m still wearing skinny jeans. 🙂
Thanks for voting!! I think the Loft straight legs might have the most nods. And I have ordered another pair of straight legs after seeing Amy’s from Liverpool.
Oh I love so many of these (the only ones I still struggle with myself are wide leg jeans) but my favorites are a toss up between skinny and flare… speaking of which I too am off to check out those flare leg jeans from AE!
Yay!! Glad you liked the flare from AE. They are very comfortable with just the right amount of stretch. Hope you find some that you like.
I love my Old Navy skinny jeans. Actually wearing a pair of black ones right now.

I glad that for now any and all jeans seem to be on trend. I like wearing a variety of styles. And after seeing Amy’s great straights legs from Liverpool, I decided I needed another pair of straight leg jeans.
My vote goes for the Loft jeans. I love me some flares…the wider the better! We are so close to the same age that we probably wore lots of the same things way back when!!! And, yes, I do walk out of clogs! Surely, there is an answer for that because I happen to love my clogs, but I don’t love leaving them behind!!!
https://marshainthemiddle.com/
Ha!! I leave my clogs behind everywhere!! You made me laugh. And that is such an awkward moment when you walk right out of your shoes…especially if it is just one shoe.
Yes, all the clothes that are popular now were popular when I was in high school. Wish I had some of my crocheted vests from back then. Probably couldn’t wear the same jeans anymore. Had a real cute pair of overalls my high school boyfriend gave me for my birthday. Would like to have them back in a slightly bigger size!! Thanks for casting a vote for the Loft flares. I think they are my favorites.
I am so happy that you were able to join us this time around!!!! Looking great as always and you definitely belong in our group because you have great style! I also do not wish to ever witness the return of the low waisted pants and although there was some rumblings of it even in spring, I am happy to report that I haven’t seen a lot of it popping up. I don’t need low waisted and crop top to contend with at the same time as a mom of teens. LOL! Anyway, I love the first outfit and especially your lilac turtleneck and the flare jeans look soooooo good on you. You have great height to pull flare or even bell bottom off. Last days before Christmas. Enjoy sweet lady.

Thank you so much, sweet friend, for making me feel like a fashionista!! You are too kind but I am eating it up. XO
I am such a blue jeans and sweater over a shirt girl so these are all my kind of looks. Lol. I especially like number three. I will sometimes wear skinny jeans, sometimes not. Depends on my shoes. Billy got me the boots I have been wanting for like a year for Christmas and they are too cute to cover up so I definitely wear them with skinny jeans. 🙂
And yes! I always walk out of clogs!! LOL
Glad I am not the only one who finds herself shoeless at times when wearing clogs!! I will be on the lookout for your Christmas boots in a blog post in the near futue.
THanks so much for this post. I got some new jeans recently, but am not in love with them. Gotta check some of these out for sure.
I like my new Liverpool jeans but I don’t think they are designed with curvy girls in mind. And I am curvy. They are a little narrower in the hips and thighs than some of my others.
