Fashionista friends, welcome to Ageless Style 11.2024: Coffee with Cream. Today’s prompt comes to us from Amy at Amy’s Creative Pursuits who challenged us to create a look based on a brown and cream color combo. I had several blazers that would have provided a good foundation for a coffee with cream color palette but it has just been too darn hot to pull them out yet this fall.
When I started packing for our 3-day getaway to the mountains of Pinos Altos, New Mexico, I realized that might be an opportunity to finally break out the blazers, shackets and sweaters. I packed 3 looks that had elements of the theme for this month’s challenge.

Our trip to the mountains was just what we needed. The scenery was beautiful. Our cabin was cozy. We enjoyed writing in little coffee shops around town. And the weather couldn’t have been more delightful. Snow on the ground when we arrived!! Cold evenings and sunny, warm afternoons. I was very comfortable in the outfits I packed.

Coffee with Cream
As you know, I have been wearing a whole lot of sweats with this boot on my broken foot. Once I was allowed to remove the boot and put some weight on my foot, the orthopedic specialist said I needed to wear thick soled shoes/boots. At my last appointment, I had a hiking boot on my ‘good’ foot and he suggested I start walking in those. Luckily, most of my tennis shoes have thick soles, too. But my foot is still somewhat swollen and it doesn’t fit real well in my tennies (or anything else) for long.
When we went to Boston a couple of autumns ago, I bought some black boots that were recommended for walking, sight-seeing. Those have a zipper and fabric sides that give them a little stretch. So as my foot swells during the day, they have a little ‘give.’ They have become my favorite footwear right now. I took them to the mountains and some brown, lined, cuffed booties, too. Shoes have become the first thing I consider when I am picking out something to wear these days.
For today’s prompt I paired this Loft houndstooth long sleeve turtleneck in popcorn with this Amazon corduroy button-down shirt in dark brown and these LC Lauren Conrad super high-waisted flare jeans. And on the footsies, my brown, lined, cuffed booties in a tobacco brown.
Comfy and Toasty
I was comfortable wearing this look most of the day. The temperatures were in the upper 30s when we got up and rose to the upper 50s in the afternoon. This outfit was the perfect weight.
We started our morning by writing at Birdwell’s Vintage Vibes coffee shop, enjoying a cup of Chai (me) or cocoa (PC) and a blueberry cream cheese muffin that we split.
Then walked a long a park called Big Ditch that runs along side downtown Silver Springs. It was lovely. A trickle of water in the creek, a tree-lined walk.
I practiced my walking on the bridge that crossed Big Ditch. When I walk with any speed, I tend to drag my right foot. So, I am constantly reminding myself to slow down and walk right!!
Next Stop
We popped in at the Silver City Museum. And posed for pictures outside the museum in front of this huge Dia de los Muertos mosaic. You know how I associate butterflies with my mom and dad. Monarchs are my ‘dad’ and I always say “Hi, Dad!” when I see one. Little yellow or white butterflies represent my mom. In the Mexican culture, monarchs are symbolic of the souls of dead loved ones returning to earth for the Dia de los Muertos celebration of life.
Look at those beautiful butterflies. The entire mosaic is pieces of tile, including the delicate papel picado banner on the left side and base of the mural. The background features marigolds which are the flowers most commonly used on the Dia de los Muertos ofrendas or altars.
We followed up with a visit to La Capilla, a little chapel on Chihuahua Hill that overlooks Silver City, which was the theme of one of the displays in the museum.
We finished up our day with a late lunch at Cafe Jalisco. Tacos and enchiladas and the biggest sopapillas I have ever seen.
And Back to the Cabin
Traveling back and forth between our cabin and Silver City each time, we passed a sign that indicates the location of the Continental Divide, something my dad always pointed out on all of our family vacations. PC indulged with me a picture standing in front of it.
It was a beautiful day and my coffee with cream kept me comfortable and warm while feeling as put together as one can hobbling on a healing broken foot.
Our 3 nights and 2 days in the Pinos Altos, was just what the doctor ordered. I hope now that PC is retired and my foot is on the mend, we can plan getaways like this on a semi-regular basis. It was the perfect reset to prepare us for the approaching busy holiday season.

I’m so glad your foot is getting better, and this outfit is truly spectacular on you. I think the print shirt under the jacket gives it interest. And that color on you truly makes you glow.
