Fashionista friends, welcome to Ageless Style 10.2024 Cozy October. Today’s prompt comes to us from our newest member, Jennifer at Overflowing with Thankfulness. You might know Jennifer from her popular “Thankful Thursday” and “Friday Favorites” posts. Glad to have her join us for Ageless Style.
Ageless Style 10.2024
When Jennifer suggested today’s prompt, I was certain we would be mid-autumn weather, cool mornings and warm afternoons. October is gusty in El Paso and we sometimes see rain around Halloween. I envisioned creating an outfit around a snuggly sweater or comfy sweatshirt. But this year has been very different. We are breaking all the records with our 90+ degree afternoon highs. Even in the AC I don’t need a sweater or sweatshirt. And moving around on my various devices – assorted rolling office chairs, crutches, wheelchair, knee scooter – I can work up a real sweat. It’s just not fall enough yet to get too cozy!!
Cozy October?
I can’t wait to get cozy. PC and I are escaping for a writing getaway to the Gila Mountains in New Mexico the first week of November. It needs to be cooler by then. And probably will be cooler in the mountains than it is here in El Paso. I hope to pack only cozy clothes for that little jaunt. For now, I am pretty much still wearing Old Navy activewear shorts everyday that I am just staying home.
Today, though, I had a special occasion to ‘dress’ for. Lucia had a piece of art chosen by her art teacher for display in the school district’s art exhibit. PC and I met Lauren and the girls (Francisco was on call) at the district’s central office downtown to view her art and the other pieces on display. I wanted to wear a fall outfit but worried about struggling into jeans and then having to go to the bathroom and struggle out of them while we were there. Finally, decided to wear one of my new sweatsuit sets from Amazon.
I purchased 2 sets a couple of weeks ago when I thought autumn might roll in before I am out of this boot. At this point, I am not sure either will happen in the near future. The arrival of autumn or graduating from my boot. One thing I do know, this Wiholl mock neck, wide leg pants lounge set is a winner.
Cozy Up Lounge Sets
Like me, are you seeing athleisure 2-piece sweatsets everywhere on everyone? Cyndi at CyndiSpivey.com featured this ribbed, over-sized, half-zip travel set in navy. She wore it 2 ways, with and without a striped button-down shirt. I might have swooned when I saw it.
Isn’t she the cutest down to her little white tennies. Perfect pieces for travel or running errands, even a day date with PC. Or in Cyndi’s case, Mr. Spivey.
In a recent post my friend Kellyann at This Blonde’s Shopping Bag shared some favorite September Prime Purchases, among them this over-sized, half-zip, sweatsuit set. She ordered the black but mentioned that it comes in 20 colors and a wide range of sizes.
Love the flare-leg of the pants. So trendy. Kellyann looks adorable, too.
After seeing these 2 fashionistas in their activewear sets, I knew I had to get on the bandwagon. They seemed like the perfect solution for what to wear while recovering from this broken heel.
My Cozy Version
I’m a sucker for a good mock neck, pockets and super soft fabric. Also wanted a longer length top to cover my grandmotherly tummy and behind. With all of those things in mind, I started searching Amazon for 2-piece sweatsuit that would be a good match for me. This lounge suit checked off all the boxes. And had really good reviews. I was anxious for it to arrive, for temperatures around here to feel more fall-like so I could cozy up.
The matching set arrived quickly and I tried it on right away. Cyndi described these pieces as effortless. I have to agree. Was able to get dressed in mine all by myself – no PC assistance required. And the wide legs of the pants slipped effortlessly over my boot.
The fabric is so buttery soft, and light enough for El Paso autumn weather. I ordered a medium, which is plenty roomy and has a little stretch to it, too. Paired the suit with these chunky tear drop gold earrings and a necklace PC gave me several years ago. Wanted to wear a pair of white ankle top tennies with this outfit but just hate asking Paul to get things for me. I knew right where they were but he came to these low cut tennies first so I went with them.
Once I bootie scooted down the stairs to leave for Lucia’s art exhibit, PC took some photos for me on the steps.
Off to the Art Exhibit
The art exhibit was at the central office for the school district. The work of several students from each of the district’s almost 100 campuses was displayed in a smallish meeting room. The theme of the exhibit was El Paso. So, all of the art featured something special about our community. The star on the Franklin mountains, the huge mountain lion collage on the side of a downtown skyscraper, even Ernie the goat, about whom I have written, here. Opted to take my knee scooter instead of the wheelchair because I thought it would be easier to maneuver around and among all the folks. And the art. It was a good call.
None of us had seen Lucia’s drawing. So we had to let her lead us through the exhibit until she found it. It was a crayon drawing of one of our missions, the San Elizario Chapel, built in 1877.
Coincidentally, San Elizario is my favorite of the El Paso Missions. Haven’t been there since I chaperoned a field trip to all the missions for Brennyn’s fourth grade class. When we were in San Antonio this summer, I told PC I really want to revisit this chapel. Should have put that on my autumn bucket list. Maybe I can pencil it in?
Lucia has been always been very artistic. And now baby sister Camila has become quite an artist. While we were driving from the exhibit to dinner at iHOP, Cami drew this picture of she and I outside their house. Can you tell which one is me? Hint: look for the scooter!!
Proud of my babies, all 4 of them. And their mommies and daddies.
Cozying Up with Family
As we left the exhibit, the girls each had a cookie and glass of lemonade that they enjoyed on a bench outside. I took full advantage and cozied up for some snuggles.
When we walked back to our cars, Lucia and Lauren both told me I looked very fancy and dressed up. Made my day. I have felt like such a slug in the last 2 months. Kind of like what’s the point? Was glad to have an opportunity to wear real clothes, to put on a little makeup, even comb my hair!! And who would have thought that wearing a sweatsuit would make me feel that way.
Your Turn
What is your favorite outfit to cozy up in? Maybe a favorite pull-over sweater? When I am not feeling well, I like to cozy up in 1 of PC’s old green sweatshirts. Have you tried these trending 2-piece leisure sets yet? I have 2!! My second set features a half-zip top and wide leg (boot friendly), high waist pants in cornflower blue. Will be packing both of these for our writing getaway next month.
Hope you will join me in stopping by to check out the cozy looks of my Ageless Style friends.

That is a fabulous 2 piece set! I love the art work too.

Thank you!! I love that my grandbabies shower us in art.

I love your cozy set and the color you chose. I think I actually have the one KellyAnn has. I bought it a month or so ago as I did not have a set and thought it would be great on our ride to the beach in November. It’s gotten cold here, so cozy layers and sweatshirts are a must in the mornings.

I am loving this two piece active wear sets, even though I currently down own any of my own. I remember when they were all the rage back in the 80’s too, now they are back in style. I need to buy a set. You look so cute in this outfit, and the color fits next month’s theme too. Your granddaughter’s drawing is incredible! She is definitely artistic.

You looked fabulous and so glad you were able to attend the event (and thanks for showcasing some of the art too).
The necklace really adds so much to the set and I loved the family photos at the end,

This looks so elegant on you. Yes a sweat suit set looks elegant on you lady! The girls are right, you do look fancy. I love that you are so close to them. I have a sweat suit on my xmas wishlist and I think it might be very similar to yours, it’s also from Amazon. Anyway, I think the writing retreat sounds awesome. Looking forward to hearing about it more.

Thank you so much. I was pleasantly surprised at how soft and comfortable this sweatsuit is! And it looked semi-dressy, too. Hope Santa brings you the sweatsuit on your Christmas list.
We are looking forward to getting away for the writing retreat. For the getaway as much as the writing.

Oh, Leslie! This two piece suit is just the bee’s knees! You look so beautiful and chic in it! I got very good at folding jeans to fit inside my boot as I had to wear it for several months after my first foot surgery. Unfortunately, wide legs weren’t the trend then! Lucia’s drawing is amazingly beautiful. She truly is artistic, but then one must look at her grandmother! So gorgeous, my friend!

Aw, Marsha, you are too kind. How long were you in your boot? So irritating. How is your foot feeling now? They keep saying I am going to have to have surgery to help with the pain in the joints. Grrr. I don’t want to do this again. Who knows how long wide leg pants will stay in style!!!
Thank you for the kind words. I have always liked to draw and it makes me happy that baby girl Lucia likes it, too.
