Good morning, sunshines!
Today’s post is a quick link-up with the gals at The Blended Blog for another of their “TBB Asks” series. We are talking about all things entertainment. Before we get to their questions and my answers, though, I want to share a mini-review of a movie we saw this weekend starring Charlize Theron (whose name, according to my family, I slaughter with mispronunciation), Mackenzie Davis and Ron Livingston. “Tully” was such a surprise.
Tully
We had seen the clips in TV commercials, which piqued my interest, PC’s not so much. On Friday, in search of a movie to watch so we could eat theater popcorn, we previewed the trailer for “Tully”. It was more compelling than the 30 second television ads had been in convincing us this was the best movie choice out there.
Charlize Theron is so convincingly on the brink of drowning as Marlo, the mother of 2 who, early in the film, delivers unplanned baby number 3. Her husband, Ron Livingston, is a likable, hard-working dad who helps with lunches and homework before retiring each evening to the bedroom with his gaming system and headphones. Real moms and dads in the audience will quickly relate to the exhaustion preventing this big screen couple from drawing a breath of fresh air.
Enter the night nanny, played by Mackenzie Davis, gifted to Marlo and Drew by Marlo’s brother. Tully seems like the answer to prayers, everyone’s prayers. A cupcake-baking, house cleaning, baby soothing miracle who tiptoes into the family’s life at dusk and is gone by dawn. She is like a mythological, magical being – maybe the mermaid Marlo dreams of – a super hero who resuscitates this family.
Just as you are certain the direction this movie is taking, “Tully” leads off in 180* opposition. If you are a mother, or have ever loved a mother, and wanted to be a mother, please sneak away from work, life, motherhood (if applicable) and see this movie! It is being celebrated on “Rotten Tomatoes” with an 89% on the tomatometer (whatevs) and a 7.2 out of 10 stars on IMDb, which is woefully low in my opinion.
Here’s a little taste.
And now, back to our originally scheduled post.
15 QUESTIONS ABOUT ALL THINGS Entertainment: TBB ASKS
Your Turn
What kind of movie do you prefer? Do you, like we, have popcorn every time you go to the theater? Do you splurge on 3D, when it is available? I cordially invite you to share some of your answers in a comment below. What’s your all-time fav movie? Let’s get back to my latest fav…”Tully”…I am such a fan of this movie. Can you tell? Please if you go see it, come back by to share your review.
Thank you for beginning your week with me. Slipped into something of a blue funk over the weekend. Hoping I can snap out of it today!
Hugs and kisses,
Dara
I totally agree with you about sitcoms! You can come visit and have a game night with us! Sounds like you enjoyed the movie you saw, thanks for the review.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, please get a baby sitter and go see Tully. Mother’s Day!!! Yeah?
Ring me up next game night…I’ll bring the snacks. Have a beautiful Sunday.
amy
Oh, that movie looks so good! Perfect for Mother’s Day!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, Tully is so good. My Prince even gave it an 8. Please go see it. Then let me know what you think. Will you be with Alethea and your daughter on Mother’s Day? Whatever you do, enjoy!!
Christie Hawkes
I enjoyed reading your answers Leslie. Makes me feel a little more like I know you personally. 🙂 I’ll limit myself to the questions you asked in your final paragraph. I like dramas and comedy–no horror films for me. (I don’t mind a good psychological thriller, just no slasher movies.) You have to have popcorn when you go to the theater! I’m not big on 3-D. We haven’t been to a movie for awhile, but one of my old-time favorites is To Kill a Mockingbird. I also loved True Grit. Young Frankenstein was good too!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, Christie, did you like the new True Grit, the old True Grit or both? I liked both but really thought the new one was a great remake. Got such a kick out of the young girl played by Hailee Steinfeld. And she has just taken off in so many different directions. Young Frankenstein was fabulous. Saw that in high school. To Kill a Mockingbird, a classic.
If you have free time this weekend, go see Tully. Very good. Great surprise ending.

There are some really fun games that you and PC could play just the two of you! (I would know since Justin and I have been working to find 2-person games). Our current favorites are Qwirkle and Dutch Blitz!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Okay, PC and I have never heard of Qwirkle or Dutch Blitz. Looking them up now. PC plays oodles of computer games. World of Tanks right now. We have tank battles in our house every night. And he grew up playing Upwords and Scrabble. But my mom hated games. Truly hated. So my siblings and I really have limited game-knowledge!! Thank you for the suggestions!
Laura
Lol! I love that you and your Prince wanted to go to the movies just for the popcorn! So many answers today have been that they could take it or leave it when it comes to theater popcorn. To that I say, SAY WHAT?? Thanks for sharing the review of Tully. I saw the previews, but still did not have a clue what this movie was suppose to be about. Now, I’m thinking I really need to see it! Great answers, Leslie!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Laura. You need to see Tully. We saw one preview on TV and PC made a face. But I really wanted to see it, so I looked it up on Rotten Tomatoes (he considers that the Holy Grail of movie reviews). It had such good ratings that he gave in. Immediately afterward, PC gave Tully an 8 out of 10. Hope you will try it! With a huge tub of popcorn!!!
Enjoy a blessed Mother’s Day, dear one!
Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom
There seems to be so many super hero movies now and as I do like to see a good super hero movie every now and then, I’m just really feeling burned out on them!! I did really enjoy The Greatest Showman in the theater. I love snowcaps, my favorite… but, I usually stock up at Walgreens first! ha!! Yeah, I’m not a fan of 3D movies either. It’s just a little over the top for me.

Wasn’t the Greatest Showman good? The music was really excellent. PC even liked it. Good for you to pack Snowcaps from Walgreens when you go to the movies. Those prices are just highway robbery.
Please consider going to see Tully, then let me know what you think. PC gave it an 8 out of 10 after reluctantly agreeing to go.
Happy a perfect Mother’s Day, angel!
Carrie
Oh PC and my Mr. would get along wonderfully. He can rewatch the same movie over and over. Thanks for the review on Tully. I’m interested.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I do not understand watching a movie over and over or reading a book over and over. I want to discover something new!! However, I am so forgetful these days that even if I have seen the movie or read the book, I won’t remember! Try Tully…it was very good.
Kasey Holloway
I love The Bachelor/Bachelorette, always sucks me in! Also, someone was just telling me the other day about LivePD and how I would really enjoy it! I will have to check it out! 🙂
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, girl, you have to try LivePD. So good. Watch for the segments from El Paso! I will wave if I get caught doing anything I shouldn’t be. Thank you for coming by AND for leaving a comment. Hope you will stop by again! Happy Mother’s Day.
Stacey @ Poofing the Pillows
Leslie, wasn’t The Lilac Girls interesting? I listened to it too. There were parts that honestly hurt to hear but in the end, I enjoyed it. 🙂
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hey, Stacey!! Thank you so much for coming by and leaving a comment. Did you listen to Lilac Girls via Audible? I thought that narrator was just tremendous. I wish wish wish there was Lilac Girls Part 2!
Hope you will visit again. Going to head over to your blog now. Happy Mother’s Day to you and yours.
Andrea Nine
I’m so interested in Tully as well. This was so fun reading your answers. I hope you have a super sweet day!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Tully! Tully! Tully! Maybe you can get Mr. Nine to take you for Mother’s Day. Really good movie. PC gave it two thumbs up and an 8 out of 10.
Have a beautiful Mother’s Day. Hope your boys surround you in love.

Little House on the Prairie—-of course….who didn’t love that???
I rarely watched tv growing up except Sunday’s Disney. But I did see Little house on the prairie reruns.

Oh, we couldn’t bare to watch Disney because often times, there would be sad parts. A mama would get separated from her cub, etc. And my own daughters about emancipated themselves from me for having them watch Dumbo. To this day, we can’t watch Dumbo. Wasn’t I a terrible mom?
Enjoy Mother’s Day with your two special moms!
Laura
Movies have gotten ridiculously expensive! It’s cheaper to wait for the DVD come out and buy the combo blu ray and DVD and digital version than to see it at the theater! Craziness! I do want to see Tully though. I can relate to so many things in that movie right now with the sheer exhaustion! Thankfully my youngest does not cry like that though. She just smiles at you and doesn’t sleep! Haha!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, Laura, my granddaughter smiled and didn’t sleep, too!! So exhausting for everyone. Even baby. Please get a sitter and go see Tully. I think your Prince Charming will enjoy it, too.
Sometimes we get theater popcorn in our $4.00 refill bucket and watch movies in our pjs at home! Sure saves a lot of money. But we always go to a matinee and the tickets are about $5.50 a piece which isn’t horrible.
Have a blessed Mother’s Day! XO
