Friends and fam, in keeping with the spirit of Valentine’s Day, the prompt for 10 on the 10th 02.2020 is 10 lovable things about my Prince Charming. So glad to be able to share a few of the things I love about my husband. If not already, I hope that after reading this you will see what a very lucky gal I am!
10 on the 10th 02.2020
When I started this blog, it was just a way for me to fill my idle hours after recent retirement. I thought I would stop by here now and again to share a book review or to talk about how I was rediscovering myself. But it has morphed into more of a journal with posts about my life, my family, my hobbies sprinkled with the occasional recipe, book review and glimpse into my fashion haus.
Daily, I wonder why I think anyone would be interested in reading what I did yesterday or cooked for dinner last week. But I am blessed that there are some folks out there that find a little nugget in my words, in these posts and online pages. Maybe somehow my struggles and successes in navigating life after retirement have helped someone else negotiate a similar chapter in their life.
Anyway, just glad to have this space to help me find my way. And always glad when you stop by.
10 Lovable Things About My Prince Charming
As you probably remember, I have been married too many times. But it took all of those frogs and cases of mistaken identity – guys who I mistook for my Prince Charming to find my real, true PC. While I am sad, embarrassed by my marriage mistakes, even if I could I wouldn’t undo them with the wave of a magic wand. Because they are what helped me recognize a truly good man when I met Paul.
These are just some of the things I love about him.
First Five In No Particular Order
- Paul Clingan is a good man. In all that statement encompasses. Fair, loyal, responsible, honest, a model citizen.
- PC has stick-to-it-ness. What’s a better word for that? Perseverance? He soldiers on. Stays the course. On our first date, I was most impressed with the fact that he had been married for close to 15 years. Had stuck it out through thick and thin until there was no possibility of his marriage continuing. At that point, Paul had been in the military for about 20 years. Had made a career out of a decision he made to enlist at the age of 18. PC has been a Cincinnati Reds fan for years. If you know anything about the Reds, that says it all!!
- My Prince is patriotic. Aside from my brother Kevin, and my father, I know no other man more patriotic. He loves this country.
- He is intelligent. Paul knows a lot about a lot. How’s that for a poorly written sentence? But it is accurate. He knows a lot of stuff about a lot of stuff. PC is well read. Much more so than I. When he wrote me on Match.com, I was bedazzled that he could spell, use correct grammar and punctuate a sentence properly.
- Paul is quick-witted and funny. Usually so quick-witted that it takes me a minute to catch up. He can be intentionally humorous but has a boyish charm about him, a little bit of sweet innocence that I like best.
Second Five
- My P. Charming is balanced. Which is an area where we are opposites. An area where we can, at times, butt heads. I react, usually with my heart. He ponders, waits, responds with his head. My personality reads like an arrhythmia. His reads like normal heartbeat. Like that Valentine’s Day heart reference?
- PC is coordinated. Another area where we are different. I have 2 left feet and knocked knees. Paul can play any sport, even play baseball and chew bubble gum at the same time. He can dance even though he thinks he can’t. PC is the only man I have slow danced with who took the lead away from me! And I liked it!
- Paul is polite. He is helpful and mannerly. PC has a sweet heart. See what I did there? When we stop at a red light where there is someone begging, PC feels so torn about whether or not to help them. Would any money we give the person truly help them (to purchase food, necessities) or possibly hurt them (go to the purchase of drugs, alcohol, cigarettes? – a word I struggled to spell).
- My Prince C. is good with money and a good provider. More proof that opposites attract. He can talk himself out of buying anything. Except maybe a new car, once in awhile. He’s a saver. It was hard for me to turn over the financial reins to Paul, after handling them (with meager success) in all my other relationships. Now days, when he says on the last day of each month, “It’s bill-paying day,” it’s music to my ears. I know our bills will be paid, and there will still be money in the bank.
- He’s extremely good-looking. Have you seen my guy? Where his ability to write a complete sentence might have been the first thing that got my attention on Match.com, that was quickly followed up by his good looks. Deep blue eyes, great skin, head full of thick, soft hair. On our first date, Paul wore a rather loose fitting pair of jeans and short-sleeved shirt. I couldn’t tell too much about how he was built so went in for a hug when, after dinner, he walked me to my car. Let’s just say, I was pleased with what I felt!

It’s true, I’ve kissed my fair share of frogs. But I am truly blessed this Prince Charming, my Paul Clingan reached out to me on Match.com, almost 16 years ago and somehow saw something he liked.

Hugs and kisses,
What a beautiful tribute, Leslie. Happy Vanentines Day to you and Paul!
Thank you, Donna!!
Awwww this is lovely. I have no idea where I’d start with Grant – he hates being mentioned in my posts so I probably wouldn’t post about him, but after nearly 31 years together he’s still my favourite person to travel with…and that’s the biggest compliment of all.
I love what you wrote about Grant. I think after 31 years, if you still want to be together, travel together, that says it all!
Aw, he does sound like a real prince.
So funny…I have not realized that you were you! Sometimes you show up as just Joanne. Sometimes as Joanne My Slices of Life. Sometimes Joanne Rawson. I never…until now..put two and two together. Duh? I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer. But I have it figured out now, by golly. And my PC is truly a prince, thank you.
This was such a sweet idea, your PC sounds a lot like my husband and he’s a keeper too. We do have to kiss a lot of toads before we find our prince sometimes. But you know what? If you hadn’t kissed those toads how would you know the difference and who the real prince was?! Glad you got him!
xo,
Kellyann
Oh, girl, I have the warts to show for all the toads I’ve kissed. But you are right, I wouldn’t be where I am today if not for all the past relationships that failed.
Awww – what a nice love letter to your PC!
Thank you, Juhli. He is a pretty terrific guy.
I know you have such a good man. He so LOVES you and it’s been a joy to watch you two through blogging. I’m happy for you, Leslie!
What a sweet message, Carrie!! Thank you!
LOVE this post! I need to join you on these 10 on 10 in the future. Such a sweet one for Valentine’s Day… I hope your hubby saw. 🙂
Thank you so much. Hope you will join me for 10 on the 10th. I will share March’s prompt in advance so everyone can be thinking and planning for it.
Very sweet post and loved learning more about Paul. He sounds great!
Thank you. My PC is a very good guy. I am so fortunate.
Love all the love!! So much in our PC’s that we can easily overlook.
I’m linking up tomorrow so I’m fashionably late to your party 🙂 LOL
Loved your 10 on the 10th post. I already knew Ricky was pretty special but the photo of the pups piled up on top of him was so precious. Any animal lover is a friend of mine.
Lovely post! And I also appreciated your valentines references.
I too have been blessed with a good man. And am thankful everyday for his being in my life (27 years and counting).
Twenty-seven years!! Good for you guys. So glad you have a good man, too. Certainly makes life better, happier, easier!
I’m so glad you stuck it out and found the right guy. Well, he found you, too! <3!
Thank you, I am, too. I really hated dating in my 40s. Awful. And cannot imagine having to date now in my 60s. I think I would just hide under a rock.
What a fun prompt and a wonderful list you put together! It sounds like PC is the perfect match for you! I’m sorry it took the long way around for you to find him…but so glad you did!! I hope you guys enjoy a sticky sweet Valentine’s Day!!:)
This link-up was fun – and just perfect for this week. I look forward to joining you each month – and checking in during the weeks in between!
Thank you, Jennifer, for your kind comment and for joining me for 10 on the 10th. Would love to invite you to join us for our bucket list posts. Left a comment on your blog with some information. Hope you will consider joining me.
Well this is the sweetest post ever! You need to print this out and make it into a Valentine’s Day card for him! You sound so perfect together and complimenting each other in just the right ways!
Awww, you are so thoughtful! I don’t think my PC read this so maybe I will print it out and stick in his card. We do complement each other and I am grateful to have such a balanced, responsible, sweet guy.
Aw, I love this! Your PC sounds like a great guy, and I didn’t know you met on Match! How cool. And yes, being a fan of the Cincinnati Reds really takes a special person. 😉
-Lauren
Ha!! I laughed aloud at your comment about Reds fans being special people. They sure are! On our hike Sunday we ran into another Reds fan who complimented PC on his Reds baseball cap. They are a loyal bunch.
Thanks for the link-up, Leslie! Enjoyed reading YOUR 10. 😃
Thank you for participating!! Sure enjoyed learning more about Big Eagle.
Awww…no wonder you call your hubby your prince. He is a keeper! 🙂 What a good exercise. Now I am thinking of 10 things I love about my hubby!
Laurie, if you write up your list of 10 things you love about your hubby, come link up with us. Then mark your calendar for the next 10 on the 10th…03.10.2020, when we will be answering questions about spring. PC indeed my Prince Charming. Thank you!
