Welcome, friends…
By now, I think you know the drill…first Thursday of the month means it’s time for the “Sentence a Day” link-up. However, my sentences tend to be on the long-side…sometimes more like paragraphs. When you are a busy bee like me, it’s hard to sum up a day of life in a couple of words. But I did start out April making a concerted effort to keep to one conjunction and no more than three semi-colons per sentence. Let’s see how I did.
No Rest for the Weary
- Brennyn plays the best April Fool’s Day jokes; got me good today. 4/1/2017
- Good day for yard work. 4/2/2017
- I’m working again…this time in the library at my neighborhood school with lots of former colleagues and old friends. 4/3/2017
- So tired of this wind…yes, I am still complaining about the wind this month. 4/4/2017
- Busy day at school but had the sweetest compliments from students, parents and teachers alike. 4/5/2017
Happy Birthday to Me
- Feelin’ the love on my birthday; turning 59 didn’t hurt a bit. 4/6/2017
- Ok, feelin’ my age today…came home from work and collapsed. 4/7/2017
- Chicken fingers basket + peanuts + Clamato + great seats + handsome company + big win = a great night at the Chihuahua’s game with a fireworks finale 4/8/2017
- We were both grumps today, nuff said. 4/9/2017
- Four classes at school were quick and easy; trained another library sub who coincidentally knows PC. 4/10/2017
National Library Week
- Unbelievable…flowers for the substitute librarian for National Library Week…wow. 4/11/2017
- Walked 11,000 steps today, mostly shelving about a zillion books and then round and round our freshly plastered pool. 4/12/2017
- Went to the bathroom and came back to the library to discover a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a delicious chocolate cake for National Library Week – spoiled rotten – then home to plant sod and fill the pool with water!! 4/13/2017
- Good Friday, that Good Friday…trying times figuring out the pool equipment but my PC and I are a team and we figured it out…high fives Team Charming. 4/14/2017
- First pedi of the season and dipped same toes into our icy pool water. 4/15/2017
- Peaceful Easter morning with time spent outside until late afternoon when I flew to Houston to visit my sister before we head to San Antonio together for the Texas Library Association Annual Conference. 4/16/2017 (Digging my floral bomber outfit I traveled in)
- Weeded books, one of my favorite librarian duties, at Valerie’s school library. 4/17/2017
Texas Library Association Conference & Girl Time
- Giggled all the way from Houston to San Antonio via a scrapbook store in New Braunfels then all around the Riverwalk once we arrived. 4/18/2017
- Have mercy, walked 19,000+ steps today to and from the hotel and convention center, attended several good programs that have rekindled my interest in lesson plan writing. 4/19/2017
- Whole lotta eating going on today with two publisher thank you dinners. 4/20/2017
- Breakfast presentation bright and early at 7:00 am, back to Houston by dinner. 4/21/2017
Relay for Life
- Relay for Life was a struggle…brand new hot dog cooker wouldn’t cook and our shade-providing tent blew over in pieces (I was so much help…standing there taking pics) but we remembered Andrew and others and more than met our goal. 4/22/2017
- Breakfast out at Doesy Doe then home again, home again, jiggity jig; enjoyed a cold bedtime beer beside our hot tub. 4/23/2017
Pool
- New sub assignment and we discovered our pool lights do tricks. 4/24/2017
Life
- Wind, wind go away and don’t come back another day. 4/25/2017
- Some of the seemingly simplest things to do can be the hardest. 4/26/2017
- Brennyn and Corey’s divorce is final; my heart hurts for them, their dreams and my baby Cady. 4/27/2017
- Yay for Fridays and paydays and paychecks and weekends. 4/28/2017
- It rained today! – which deserves an exclamation point mid-sentence! – and we drove around in the rain visiting nurseries for just the right plants for around the pool. 4/29/2017
- After six hours of planting and transplanting our desert-friendly plants, our rock gardens around the pool are established and our backs are practically broken. 4/30/2017
So there you have it, April in a few words. Thankfully, the wind has slowed some. We still aren’t swimming in our pool. I am working at a new (old) school. But what am I doing…it isn’t time for May’s sentences yet! Come back for those the first Thursday of June, which is actually the first day of June.
Your Turn
And if you chronicled your month in a Sentence a Day, there are two ways you can link up with us. Click on the little blue (why blue?) frog and add your permalink or share some of your sentences on social media using #sentenceaday.
Would love to have you join us for next month, too. So pull out that pen, pencil or keyboard and get started writing. Hope you will hop around to read all of the posts from our sentence-ers. This group is growing by leaps and bounds. But there’s still room for YOU!
Thank you for coming by today. Now go out there and make this a day to write about!
Hugs and kisses,
jodie filogomo
Wow, Leslie—your pool turned out fabulous!! I may need to come visit to see it in person, LOL!!
And I loved the part about being grumps—we all have our days, don’t we??

Grab your bikini and come on, girl!! Except we still can’t get in it yet! They are killing me. We have another week to go before we can finally swim and soak.
I have been so tired lately that I am grumpy fairly regularly and I hate that. Four more weeks of work and then I can enjoy doing some things I have put on the back burner.

Cheladas are my favorite summer drink!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Cheladas are so good!!!Thanks for stopping by.

Your pool looks great! Will definitely enjoy it all summer long! Man too much wind where you live! Sad for your daughter, Glad she has a good support system.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Corey and Brennyn are very good at parenting together so I am thankful for that. And I hope I can continue to maintain a relationship with Corey, too.
DANIELLE PARK
Oh your pool. LOVE it and the fun lights too.
I really should do this. For the month of April I used the Gratitude 365 app and listed things I was grateful for everyday. That would be an easy place to keep my sentence a day in.
What is a hot dog cooker (the thing you referred to at Relay?) I am intrigued.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Please, please join us in June for May’s sentences! Let me know and I will send you the graphic and link-up info. You could absolutely do it with your gratitude app. I have never heard of Gratitude 365 so will go look into that.
So anxious to finally get in the pool. One more week.
A hot dog cooker is like a grill that rotates like a rotisserie to evenly grill the hot dogs. My sister had purchased this hot dog cooker to grill them for Relay and the darn thing didn’t even come on. https://www.houzz.com/photos/55033323/Great-Northern-Popcorn-Commercial-30-Hot-Dog-11-Roller-Grilling-Machine-2200W-contemporary-popcorn-makers We wound up running home to cook them running them back up to Relay. A lot of running that day.

I’m so sorry I missed your birthday! Happy belated, lovely! I hope you had the best day ever!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
No worries, baby girl. I had a wonderful birthday. You have been a busy world traveler and building a bright new relationship. So excited for you.
Sue from Sizzling Towards 60 & Beyond
Okay I’m heading over for a swim Leslie! Your month has been so hectic but I loved reading about it. Thanks again for the opportunity to link up I’ve really enjoyed April and will be back for May. Happy belated birthday. I’m 60 in August but as you say you turned 59 and didn’t hurt a bit! Have a great week and look forward to next month’s post.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Would love to have a blogger pool party! Wouldn’t we have fun?
My April was too hectic for my tastes and May has been busy with work but four more weeks til summer vacay. I might be about ready to retire for real this time. I know it is cliche to say age is just a number but I truly feel that way. Most days I really don’t feel 59…unless I am getting up off the floor. And today’s field trip with 80 second graders was a little tiresome.
Thanks for joining us with your great sentences.
Natalie
Happy belated birthday, Leslie! Your April was very active. Your pool is shaping up nicely. We had so much rain this Spring…Lake Ontario water levels are at the highest in 30 years…I’ll send some of this rain your way.

After reading so much about your El Paso wind travails, I am now looking for windy hair in your photos, and they make me smile every time. 🙂
And your pool turned out so pretty – what a wonderful thing to have and enjoy during long Texas summers, and I love the differing colors – what fun!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Girl, my hair is always wind blown…even on a still day. I forget to comb or brush it! PC has been calling it scarecrow hair lately. Thinking that might not be a good thing.
Cannot wait to get in this pool. Next weekend will be our inaugural swim. Woo hoo! Don’t have my bikini figure going on but maybe once I can start swimming, I will get in better shape in a hurry?
So glad you came by. Thank you for joining me for some of these posts.
curlycraftymom
The pool has lights! Oh my gosh, how fun!! I also love that floral bomber you are sporting, so cute on you! I’ll trade you wind for rain! It’s been raining so much here, but luckily we are in for a beautiful sun-filled weekend!

We knew we would have a light in the pool but discovered the colored lasts, and the different transitions by accident. I have seen your posts on FB about flooding and rain. Hope by now all that yucky weather is behind you. Stay safe.
Laura
Sounds like you really got some steps in last month! Your pool is looking amazing! You are going to get so much use from that in the Texas heat this summer!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, sweets. I can’t tell you how moved I was by your infertilizy/fertility series, Laura. Thank you for opening your life and your struggles up for the sake of others experiencing that same pain.
shaunaceyb
I don’t know how you ladies manage to keep track so well… props to you!!
I want a pool AND weather to be able to use a pool!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I bet your sentences would be so full and busy and hectic and fun! Try it with us just once. Maybe in June? Speak ’em into your phone if nothing else.
I am anxious to finally get in our pool THIS WEEKEND!!! Woo hoo!!
Sheila @ Making the Most of Every Day
Your pool looks amazing and I’m officially jealous! I’m so sorry to hear about the divorce. That always makes me sad. Always!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I was really, really sad for awhile when Corey and Brennyn first separated. They have been apart almost two years now so I have adjusted, sadly. They are doing a good job remaining amicable as they parent Cady. And I hope to maintain a relationship with Corey to some extent just because he will always be in Cady’s life.
We can finally SWIM this weekend – YAY!!
