Chumlies,
Welcome to Currently, 12.2018. Our last go-round for the year. I am currently watching “A Million Little Things” with one eye and looking at my laptop screen with the other. Have you seen this show? It has hit a little too close to home lately but there are so many twists and turns in the story line that it keeps me coming back for more.
Joining Anne in Residence and all the gals for this year’s final edition of this popular series. Anne asked us to share what we are currently . Here are my responses.

Baking
Sugar cookies, I hope. As a part of the therapy for my mom during her hospital stay, the counselors have been asking all of the patients about their favorite Christmas memories. My mom has never liked the holidays so trying to get her to answer these questions was probably quite the feat. One of the questions was ‘favorite Christmas food?’ I asked my mom what her answer was and she replied her mom’s homemade sugar cookies, cut-out in various shapes, iced and decorated. I thought I had mom’s/grandma’s sugar cookie recipe but I didn’t find it so I want to look in mom’s recipe box for it. Then I would like to bake some sugar cookies with her. Going to pack a few of the cookie cutters that were my grandma’s just so we can do things authentically…the way mom remembers from childhood. My brother’s sweet girlfriend LeeAnn offered to bake sugar cookies for my mom, too. We may wind up with sugar cookies galore.

Came across Jesus Calling for Christmas by Sarah Young when I was window shopping on Amazon the other day. Ordered a copy for myself and my BFF Sharon in Oklahoma City. Sharon gave me Jesus Calling a few years ago and it has spoken to me every single time I have opened that book. So thankful for Sharon, her friendship and Jesus Calling. This Christmas version is slightly differently. The verses of scripture are provided – which I like and don’t like. When I have just the citation to the book, chapter and verse numbers, I am forced to go to my Bible to read the verses. And I need all the practice I can get finding my way around the Good Book. But during this hectic season, it is kinda nice to have the verses there for me. Lazy that way.
Decorating
Not much. PC would just as soon we never decorate for Christmas or put up a tree. But I always do it myself. This year, with my mom being sick and now my trip to Kentucky, it just didn’t make a lot of sense to go all out. I sat down with Purrsnickitty and Purrsimmony to explain that even if we don’t have a Christmas tree for them to play in, Santa will still come.
Will be participating in a holiday home tour post with a great group of gals on 12.12.2018, while I am out of town. Hope you will come back by that day for a jolly ho-ho-ho at my meager decorating efforts!
Mailing
Loft vegan leather leggings. And you thought I was going to say Christmas packages, didn’t you!!?? Ha! We are really only buying for the grands this Christmas and our parents. Will hand-deliver Lucia’s gifts when we go up to Albuquerque for Christmas. I haven’t mailed Cady’s gifts, although her big present is a blue bicycle that reminds me of my first bike, which Brennyn picked up assembled at Academy this week. Her other gifts may just be here for her to enjoy when she comes in January. Can’t decide.
I think I am delirious these days and operating on about 4 hours sleep each night. Ordered said vegan leather leggings from Loft and somehow selected ‘deepest fig’ rather than black. They arrived and I almost decided to just keep the wine color pair but really think I would get more use out of the black. So today, before I jump on the plane, I am mailing the wine pants back. The black ones are already on their way.
For the record, I predict PC will think I have flipped my lid for good when he sees me trying to wear faux leather leggings.
Singing
Not much. You’re welcome.
SIA: Style Imitating Art
Real quick, before I jump in the shower, want to share my interpretation of the latest SIA, Style Imitating Art piece curated by Salazar at 14 Shades of Grey. The painting by Shin Saimdang is entitled “Watermelons and Field Mice”. Two of my favorite things. Not.
Although, the mice part brought back memories of the lab mice my dad brought home to us as ‘pets’ one year. Two males. Until that morning that there were 10 babies. A Christmas miracle.
I chose this cardi because it reminded me of the texture and colors in the watermelon rind in the painting. And the nubbiness of nest a family of field mice might call home.
Your Turn
Scrambling to get this post done, some photos taken of my decorating, then shower, dress and run to the bank before heading to the airport. I need to get my behind in gear. How would you respond to this month’s Currently prompts? Won’t you share in a comment below? Then be sure to hop by Anne’s to see how the rest of the gang responded.
Big love to each of you. Have a warm weekend. Do something just for YOU!!
Hugs and kisses,
Deb
I do hope that the biscuit baking session with your mum goes well, I’ll be thinking of you and hope your visit helps her frame of mind.
Christmas is all about the kids so I’m sure you’ve been concentrating on making sure those grandchildren of yours have exciting things to open on Christmas Day. And maybe putting up a few decorations at home will help lift your mood too. Take care x

Another thing you gifted – a book to us! We received it and I’m going to give it to my kids tonight with their Hanukkah presents! Thank you!

I’m thinking PC is on to something as I am currently over decorating as usual. I love your Jesus Calling book suggestion. As I wrestle with lights I often think I spend Advent all wrong.
Hope all goes well with your visit with mom. You’re so thoughtful to bring the special cookie cutters.
