Hey Girls!
It’s FRI-DAY!
You know what that means?
It means it’s time for our first Style Me Bloggers link-up in this brand, spankin’ new year.
Oh yeah, baby!
Today we are heading back into our closets. Not be confused with coming out of our closets which is where we are on any other given day. Back in November we shared a peek into our closets and our organizational tips. You can read that post here. Today we are looking at some particular items in our closets – something old (me, when I am standing in there), something new, something borrowed and something blue.
So grab a cup, glass or goblet of your favorite beverage and pull up a chair, chaise or bed and let’s do this thing!
This week, I have been busy switching out the old hangers in my closet with new, space-saving hangers. I had never heard of such a thing until we did our first closet link-up together. I shopped around online for a good deal and Bed, Bath and Beyond seemed to have the best price for their Real Simple Slimline Flocked Suit Hangers. Check them out here. Actually, I could have snapped a picture of them and been done with this post because my hangers are new, peacock blue, replacing something old (the yucky hangers I have been using until now).
And I “borrowed” the idea of the space saving hangers from a fella Style Me Blogger.
Somehow just posting a pic of my hangers seems like cheating, though.
Instead, this is what I came up with.
That’s kind of an overview of most of the closet. And the something old, new, borrowed and blue items I am going to talk about.
These are my some things old. The notebooks are lesson plans, monthly and annual reports from my school library, our district library curriculum guide or two. Blood, sweat and tears. The VHS tapes in the blue milk crate are taped recordings of a televised reading program I did for the school district. Someday I would like to transfer them onto DVDs or computer files. I just discovered Legacy Box – a service that does that kind of thing – so may try them out and may blog about the experience. The American Girl doll is Josefina and she belongs to my daughter Brennyn. Josefina is old and kinda borrowed because she doesn’t belong to me. Lauren has an American Girl doll, too. She just doesn’t reside in my closet but resides in Lauren’s closet in my house. The girls never really cared much for the dolls – at least not to play with – because they have scary eyes that open and close. Wonder how the girls feel about their own eyes, which just so happen to also open and close.
Here we have my some things new. I bought myself a yoga mat – not for yoga exactly – but to do sit ups and floor exercises on. You will notice that I carefully re-package it after every workout. Yeah, NOT. I have had the mat for, ummmmm, say three weeks? And I haven’t used it yet. YET being the operative word. Going to get right on that next week. Plan on doing some Fitness Blender. If you aren’t familiar with Fitness Blender, check it out here. Meet you there next week before my new mat becomes old. My other new is a beautiful new clutch my daughter Lauren gave me for Christmas. Isn’t it lovely? Can’t wait to carry this little number. It will certainly be featured as part of my All Glammed Up and No Place to Go outfit for our Oscars link-up in February.
My some things borrowed. This was a tough one. I don’t tend to borrow clothes. PERIOD. I have no one to borrow from. But my BFF Sharon has sent me so many beautiful tops (and loads of other pretty things) that I am featuring a few of them here and we can call them borrowed. Permanently. Two of these also happen to be blue. Aren’t they lovely? Don’t you wish you had a BFF like mine? And I put Josefina in this category, too. For the record, I am not keeping her but just borrowing her (housing her?) until she moves to Ft. Worth.
Here’s my something blue. And this was the dismal state of my closet earlier this week. Some old, borrowed (from stores and dry cleaners) hangers being replaced by new hangers. My new, space-saving, blue hangers. Now with all this room I have saved, I have more room for some new clothes. Come back to see what I buy!
My daughter Lauren will be adding a peek at her closet tomorrow so if you are reading this and her post isn’t here yet, you have to promise to come back. Promise? Good.
UPDATE:
Here is Lauren’s great post. So glad to have her play along with me in this blogging adventure. If you have any comments or questions for Lauren, just put them here and I will be sure she sees them and responds. Have a warm weekend and do something special for YOU.
Something New – I had such a wonderful Christmas this year, and was spoiled rotten by my parents and husband. For my “something new” closet find, I chose two gifts from my mom – a mint green/blue purse from my favorite store, Target, as well as a cloche hat that my mom found at JCPenney. My head is so small, hopefully only because I’m rather small myself, but whatever the case, I have a lot of trouble finding hats that fit and look well. I’ve found that cloche hats are the most flattering on my head, so I’ve added a few to my closet over the last year or so. This black hat is neutral enough to wear with almost anything; I love it!
Something Old – This tiny treasure box was owned by my great-grandmother, and was given to me by my grandmother in middle school. There are a couple of pieces of jewelry, including pins and a bracelet, which belonged to my great-grandmother, and a new addition (blue turtle) given to me by my grandmother. When my mom moved to her new home in 2008, I stored this tiny box in a large Rubbermaid box, and later forgot where I’d placed it after I moved to Houston. Luckily, my mom was able to find the box for me after reorganizing some of the things I’d stored at her home. Yay!
Something Borrowed – This Arizona Jean Co. sweatshirt is probably one of the oldest items in my closet still in use. Arizona Jean Co. must have made this thing out of some kind of indestructible cotton, because this thing has withstood the hand of time like nothing else. This was originally my sister’s sweatshirt, but I “borrowed” it during elementary school and never gave it back. That was 20+ years ago. It’s still my favorite sweatshirt, and it still fits (amazingly!).
Something Blue – I’m a HUGE Game of Thrones fan…I originally got hooked on the series and books thanks to my stepfather, Paul. Obviously, my favorite character is Daenerys Targaryen, a.k.a. Khaleesi. This particular outfit from the show was my favorite – the blue and gold combination, together with the great belt and shoulder details, all come together to make a really stunning piece. This past Halloween, HBO licensed these outfits to Spirit Halloween store, and I was able to snag one of the last ones in stock for around $50. I’m still a kid at heart, and love to dress up in all kinds of costumes and outfits, so I had to add this outfit to my collection. The wig was purchased online and I think it looks pretty good!

Leslie Roberts Clingan
Love the hangers! Thank you for coming by. Hope you have a brighter Friday, maybe with a little time with Miss E? Love you!
Deena
I promise to come back…such a creative post!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hey Deena, check out Lauren’s Khalessi outfit from her closet. Thanks for coming by!
Shaunacey
I really did think you packaged back up your mat for a minute! lol
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Ha! Shaunacey, still haven’t used the darn mat. But will hit the exercise this week!!!
Joy C.
Your closet space looks great! I like how you’ve organized your jewelry. I have the same kind of hangers. I love how much can fit in my closet, but my closet hanging bar thought it was too much 😉 Oops!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Joy, my daughter Lauren was really responsible for helping me organize my jewelry. I love being able to see it hanging there near my clothes to remind me to take time to find the right necklace to wear with each outfit. I am beginning to wonder how much more my closet hanging bars can hold, too. I moved four (measly) pieces out of the closet this week to donate to Goodwill and put them back in there today!
Lana
Leslie, you always make me laugh, and you’re so creative. Loved this post! Aren’t the space saving hangers the best? You’re right, that’s a really good price – great find. Your closet looks great. The blouses from you BFF are beautiful. You’re right, so many little girls are afraid of the opening/closing eyes, but what do they think their own eyes do? Have a great weekend – I promise to come back and look for your daughter’s post!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you for your thoughtful comments. My daughters really only liked Cabbage Patch dolls (because of the eyes). My BFF Sharon is the best gift giver and spoils me rotten with beautiful things. Her home is amazing. I should have Sharon give us a virtual tour on my blog. Maybe this spring! Have really enjoyed following along on your Disney adventures. Hope to do that someday soon. Enjoy your Saturday.
Wendy
I have those hangers too! Wish I had them in that pretty blue!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Aren’t these hangers wonderful? I still need some more for my husband’s side of the closet but will work on that. I have the important clothes (mine) all set! Thanks for coming by.
Katie
Leslie, You are hilarious!! LOL And Josefina!! Cute cute!! Look forward to Lauren’s Link-up!
Karen Strand
I love that your “borrowed” was an idea from another blogger — so was mine!! You know what they say about great minds!! Have a great weekend my friend!
Shaunacey
love Lauren’s picks!! that blue costume is brilliant on you! I need to watch Game of Thrones asap!
Christy
I love your interpretation! Also love how your daughter participated. Great post!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Christy! Loved doing the post with my daughter Buffy! Thanks for coming by.
Sheila @ Sheila's Potpourri
I love that you converted to the space saving hangers cold turkey! How many packages did you buy?? I want to do that but haven’t been brave enough to make the jump. You might have convinced me…
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hey Sheila, this was five boxes…yikes, 250 hangers but that was enough for my stuff and a lot of my husband’s. Still need another box or two. I really like the space saving feature of these hangers but also like that they are flocked and the clothes stay on the hangers. I started out by switching over a section of my clothing at a time…started with tees and tanks. Maybe you can do that? And Bed, Bath and Beyond has coupons, too, for 20% purchases.
Carrie
I love that Lauren was a part of this post too! 🙂 Great work on your closet, Leslie. It really looks fantastic, friend!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Carrie, I am so blessed because Lauren and my friend Sharon have been such big supporters of my blog. I want to try to get Sharon to work on a post with me, too. Thank you for coming by, sweet one!
Lana
See, I came back to read your daughter’s post! Loved the story behind the treasure box, and I can’t believe she still has a sweatshirt from grade school! She is just as lovely as you are :)!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
You DID come back! Thank you, Lana. Lauren is about the same size she was in grade school and that JCPenney sweatshirt has seen many years of wear but must be woven with some kind of indestructible fabric like bullet-proof vests are made out of. Thank you, sweet one, for your kind compliments and for stopping by again!
