Rediscovering Life after Retirement

Little Letters, 9.2017

Readers-o-mine,

Thank you for joining me (again?).  This is my first month to participate in the “Little Letters” link-up hosted by Kristen at Taz & Belly.  I first discovered the “Little Letters” link-up through my friend Katie at The Mishaps and Mayhem of a Solitary Life.  Her letters are always so witty.  Then I realized another new blogger buddy also joins up for this series so I decided to give it a go.

Writing these “Little Letters” was very therapeutic.  I highly recommend it even if no one reads what you’ve written.  You will feel like a weight has been lifted.  That same kind of release that you get from punching a pillow.  Or popping bubble packaging wrap.  You’ve got to try it!

Letters to Contractors

Dear Bella Homes,

We’ve been in our home now almost 10 years and yet you, our builder, keep surprising us with little issues even now.  Like the secondary drain line you failed to install on the upstairs AC unit.  Thanks to that omission we now have a cross-shaped water stain on the den ceiling directly under where said air conditioning unit is housed on the second floor.  I find it hard to focus on TV or anything else for staring at that stain and the other one created by our leaky roof the summer after we moved into the house.  Your patch and paint repair job on the first stains left much to be desired even though you tried three times to get it right.  We won’t be calling you to fix this latest stain.

Dear Silver Springs Pools,

You asked us to wait until pool season came to a close before contacting you again about the 30+ cracks in our pool deck, the cracks in the pool plaster, the illegally wired electricity, the missing gas trap at the pump.  Well, October will soon be upon us.  Confident you are going to do everything necessary to make our new pool what it should have been from the start.  Right?

Letter to Father Time

Dear Father Time,

Could you slow down?  Maybe not work so hard, please?  Everyday I face this big ole to-do list but there are never enough hours to accomplish everything.  Maybe you could work with sun and moon? The three of you could come up with a new schedule?  Or do something around that whole daylight savings time business?  If not forever, for just for a few weeks until I can get my ironing caught up, all of the old books withdrawn from the shelves and deleted from the library computer, and my spring cleaning finished before fall sets in. After reading the recent blog posts of many of my friends, I can assure you there are others who could deal with another hour or two in their day.  Thank you for your consideration.

JCPenny Sephora Cosmetics Consultant

Dear Reyna,

Thank you for taking the time on Saturday to give me a make-over when everyone and their sister was shopping JCP for make-up.  I may never be able to replicate your careful, artistic application of foundation, powder and blush but after spending more money on cosmetics that one day than I have ever spent all together in my 59 years, you can bet I will die trying.  Why is it so hard for me to say, “No, thank you.”?

Kitchen Appliance

Dear Tappan Oven and Range,

Thank you for staying on and hot while I baked dinner tonight.  I am not certain what has gotten into you when, on occasion, you turn off midway through cooking our food.  Leaving my biscuits flat and doughy, beef unroasted, and PC’s Tater Tots frozen in the middle.  With the holidays fast approaching unless Father Time, sun and moon come up with a plan to slow things down, I am going to need your word that you will enable me to get Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners behind us before you give up the ghost for good.  I have learned not to trust you to stay on, so when I use you, I check, double-check and triple-check to be sure your are continuing to heat.  Let’s just make a pact to preserve our friendship through the remainder of the year.  At which time, we can discuss your terms for retirement. Deal?

Amor de mi Vida

Dear Prince Charming,

Thank you for coming to my rescue…over and over again.  For hearing my stomping in the kitchen and borderline slamming of the cabinets and understanding those as cries for help.  Thank you for decreasing my mountain of clothes to be ironed by approximately 25% steaming your polo shirts for work.  And for saying dinner was really good.  You know the way to my heart.  I love you.

Your Turn

If you were to write some little letters, for whom would they be addressed?  I come from a long line of family who writes letters or makes phone calls whenever they have an issue with a company or business. PC calls me the pit bull when it comes to me trying to set a fire under our pool builder.  I just know that I do my best at work and I expect everyone else to do so.  Nuff said for tonight.

Please take a moment to run by to read Kristen’s “Little Letters”, here.  And then, mark your calendars for the next edition of this series on October 13.  Would love to have you join us.

Have a productive week, girlsies!!

Hugs and kisses,

leslie

A fun idea, Leslie! I may give it a try. Right now I’d write to Father Time, too 🙂

Oh my, you really are having trouble with your pool and pool deck. Dang. I would seriously be PO. Hopefully they come a rectify that situation soon for you. That must be incredibly frustrating.

I laughed at your little letter to your stove/oven. THE BEST. Now that is super frustrating for sure. Hopefully it holds out for you for the holidays.

Bahah! This is HILARIOUS! I have never seen a blog post done like this… gosh, your poor pool! I hope they make it all better. Do they want to fix it in October, because that is when you’ll drain it for the season? (or do you leave it full of water year round?). Oh, I did a MAC makeover once and I spent a pretty penny, too… I am not good at saying no either! Ugh!!

Our permit expires in October, at which time, if the repairs haven’t been made, the city inspector can get involved. Waiting for October 31!!

Probably won’t ever do another make over again. But did get some stuff to cover my age spots. Kind of like putty!!

Very cathartic, which I have been saying and spelling all wrong. Ha! That’ll teach me to use big words.
