Fashionistas, welcome!
It’s Wednesday (ok, Tuesday evening) which means it is time for another Style Perspectives link-up over at The Blended Blog.
Carrie, who blogs at A Lovely Little Wardrobe, is hosting today’s link-up. Her prompt features several ingredients: a blazer, a tee, jeans and sneakers. When I saw this outfit coming up on our list of prompts, I was relieved. I had all of the pieces required, and actually had put this outfit together in the past myself.
To create my interpretation of Carrie’s prompt, I decided to go with my Chadwick’s khaki blazer, Loft Outlet coral tee, Loft cropped jeans, City Sneaks tennies from Payless and a tassel necklace from Charming Charlie.
Of all of these pieces, I probably get the most wear from this pair of tennis shoes. If you look closely at the inside, you can see I have worn the cushion down. Funny story about these shoes. I was early to a doctor’s appointment – which should have been a huge red flag that something was wrong in my universe – so I decided to stop and photograph some of the murals under an overpass nearby. Isn’t that what everyone does when they are early for an appointment?
Exhibit A:
These are just a few of the works of art found in El Paso at Lincoln Park where I-10 meets Highway 54. I appreciate the presence of the American symbols combined with images familiar in Mexican culture. Our city is truly a melting pot.
As I returned to the car to head to my appointment, the strap on my shoe broke. I had fiddled around using up my extra time taking pictures, and now it was just minutes before my appointment. And I was barefoot. Well, on one foot. Thankfully, the clinic where I was headed is located in my former “barrio”, my ‘hood, my old stomping grounds…the southside of El Paso where I had worked when I first moved here. I remembered there was a Payless shoe store around the corner. That’s where I found these tennies and have enjoyed them ever since. There was a reason why I was early (for the first time ever) for my appointment that day.
So here’s today’s outfit on our model. I give you Leslie (me) wearing a blazer, tee and tennies, first here in skinny mirror (available at Kirkland’s for under $50).
No matter how hard I try, there is always something wrong in my pictures that I don’t notice until I am putting a blog post together. More often than not, my hair is especially funky. But in this pic, not only are my freshly cut bangs looking like freshly cut bangs but my blazer is hooped up in front. Nice.
PC was feeling very cooperative on this particular morning, so I took full advantage and had him take two, count ’em, two pictures outside. My blazer is hanging better but my bangs aren’t. Looks like the gal at Super Cuts set a bowl on my head and cut my bangs around it. Good look. Similar to some of the cuts my sweet mama gave me when I was little.
Yup, same hair cut. And same stance.
Just facing east in this picture instead of west. Virtually the same, otherwise.
Again with those bangs. But I am liking the blazer-tee-tennies look. Better to just forget everything above the chin for this post. Please be sure to stop by the blogs of all of the other TBB contributors to check out their blazer-tee-sneakers looks, and their bangs. Just follow the links below.

Ugh. Third time is a charm? If you move to another window, your message disappears. You have motivated me to get out my khaki Blazer from Chadwicks that I purchased for a previous fashion challenged that I have never worn. I obviously failed that challenge. I love it with the tennis shoes. I would love to remind you of who actually had the true bowl cut for our family. And I distinctly recall one day when my bowl slipped and my ear got cut. Ouch. My lobe is still shorter on that ear than the other. As I grow older, and you get old woman ears, I wish that mother had cut both earlobes. Wonder if it’s too late?
Would like to add the picture of you, Holly and me sitting on the steps as a sample.
Love the tennis shoe story. Reminds me of the day I arrived at school to drop Trey off, running late for my school, and he says I forgot my shoes! What, how did you not notice! I dropped him by the gym and told him to go through lost and found and find something to wear for the day. When I picked him up he had found his previously MIA soccer cleats and worn them all day with lost and found socks. He didn’t do that again and I didn’t have to buy new cleats.
Love you.

OH MY GOSH! I am laughing so hard right now. I had forgotten that story about Trey. LOL. So funny. Maybe more so now than on that rushed morning. I will add the pic of your bowl cut in an update tonight. Thank you for coming by and thank you for always and forever making me laugh! I love you.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh boy! I thought I responded to this when I first read your comment. I laughed and laughed, actually snorted, when I read this. So funny. Hope you did get your blazer out to wear. They really are nice – we have the same one – and just enough to keep you warm if the AC is too strong. Try Rack Room for Chuckie Taylors on sale. I got my Jack Russells there, too. I thought of you with your missing ear lobe when I wrote this post. Love that we have the same memories.
Of course, this story of Trey is hysterical and just so him. Gotta love him. What a win-win that he found his cleats! Hilarious. Thank you for my daily laugh. I love YOU!

Oh Leslie, you angel, precious then, even more precious now!!!! Cutest lil tennis shoes, love the floral!! You always look so classy yet have a “come on girls, let’s have some fun!” vibe!!! LOVE it!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, Andrea, you say the nicest things. I would never think of myself as classy, just kind of all over the place. And always ready for some fun. I aspire to be as classy as you are, my friend. But I have a long way to go! Thank you!!
Nicole
Floral Sneakers?? I need those in my life – you love your look!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
So comfy and so cheap. I was flat broke when my shoe blew out and so I managed to get these tennies at Payless for next to nothing…$12?
Deena
Floral sneakers…those are excellent! I love the picture of you as a kid and then you in the same pose. Ha! You crack me up.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
This model only knows one pose! I used to be quite the ham when they brought out the camera in the good old days of Kodak and film. Glad you liked the floral tennies. You are my shoe-guru so that means a lot!
Sharon
Love the pics and you crack me up! I remember the day your shoe broke! 😊 Have a great day in your cute outfit!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hey gf! I will email tonight. Off to see Buff tomorrow for her surgery. Read Valerie’s comment below. Too funny. Love you!
Jill
Perfect styling! I love those floral sneakers! I don’t have a preference with the alignment but I guess it looks cleaner aligned to the left. The framing of your photos is a nice touch if you have extra time to do that. Have a great day!

I kinda like the framing around the pics myself but I agree that maybe the left aligned text is better. Otherwise my posts kind of look like one huge poem. Thank you for casting a vote and thank you for your sweet comments.
Christy
Super cute sneakers Leslie. Totally you!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Awww, thank you, love!
Shaunacey
I should have known you’d have the prettiest sneakers!!!!! I could totally pull ones like that off at the office!! Pretty as always 🙂

I wear these tennies and others to work. With jeans, only, but when I am crawling around with kindergartners on the carpet, I figure (cute) tennies and jeans just make sense.
Sarah @ Foxy's Domestic Side
I need a pair of floral sneakers like yesterday! I loved the story you included 🙂 Also I like the left aligned text, but don’t mind centered and I honestly didn’t notice the borders. Hope that helps pretty lady!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you for your opinion on the text and bordered pics. I am going to fool around with it more to figure out what works best. My floral tennies are practically stain-proof with that crazy flowered pattern. Can’t see the dirt or any spaghetti sauce I might drip on my shoe. All that for $12!
LISA
You are too funny! I look forward to hanging out with you someday. Love the floral sneakers.

I hope we do get to hang out in the future. I am really shy in real life but have this alter ego that lives in my fingertips when I type a blog post.

Those floral sneakers look great with the blazer! Makes the outfit more relaxed than the professional “I work in a cubicle” look. Your under shirt matches the shoes in a subtle way. Your baby picture is soooo cute!! The stance with those little Mary Janes. Your hair looks adorable. With that style bangs I used to tease it a bit and messy it up to a particular angle (side sweepish like). I’m assuming you don’t like it because it’s not pin point what you expected or asked for? Never go to corporate hair places! However like I said, I really dig the hair (in general).
Also, your blog looks lovely. I’ve ran into picture placement issues but realized that without a blogger boarder they look much more clean.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yay, YOU! Welcome, friend. Thank you for chiming in and leaving me a comment. So very nice to meet and hear from you. Thank you for your kind words. And the suggestion for my bangs is most welcomed. I like messied up in all things and will certainly try to do that with this crazy cut! In fact, I asked for messy and got this. Hmmm! Thank you for sharing your opinion on the blog questions. I think maybe I will switch to left-alignment for kicks. Will be heading by your “house” (blog), too!
Lana
This is a great outfit on you – you look fantastic in that color! Love the story about your shoes. I know “they” say that people don’t like center aligned text, but it honestly doesn’t bother me at all.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, thank you. Going to fiddle with left-alignment for awhile just to shake things up. I started that way when I first jumped into this blogging business but then saw the centered text on some big name bloggers’ blogs and thought I was doing it all wrong. Now I know there really aren’t a whole lotta blogging rules.
Carrie
Yes, align left and frames or no frames is fine either way with me. I like this look on you and adore those floral sneakers.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you! I like this look a lot, too. Saw some paisley tennies like my floral ones that might turn up in my closet. Love your
chambray blazer so on the hunt for something similar to wear this spring and summer. I think I am liking this align left stuff,
after all.
Katie
Love, love, love this look on you! Cool sneaks!! And loved seeing your throwback pic!! So fun! I just love reading your posts Leslie! xo
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Katie, your comments always brighten my world.
Alison @ Puppies & Pretties
Love those floral sneakers! So fun?
Alison @ Puppies & Pretties
And that question mark is supposed to be an exclamation point. Not questioning the fun-ness of your sneaks 🙂
Leslie Roberts Clingan
LOL! I have so much trouble putting in exclamation points when I mean to be asking a question!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you! I might need the paisley tennies to go with my florals.
