Hello, gentle readers!
It is that time again. Time for another segment in my Summer Slide series. If you are just joining us for the first time, please click here to learn more about this series.
The review for today’s post comes to us from Bonnie, a friend and colleague from my school librarian days. I first came to know Bonnie when she was an elementary school librarian like me. She worked at an elementary school on Ft. Bliss, our U.S. Army Installation in El Paso. These days, however, Bonnie is the head librarian at a central El Paso high school where I had the pleasure to sub for her several days this past school year. Bonnie is the epitome of grace. She is a quiet, intelligent, lovely, sweet lady who even looks a little like that famous Grace, the Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly. And she is one terrific librarian.
The main character in her book is physically quite Bonnie’s polar opposite.
Larf is a “hairy, seven-foot-tall, scarf-sporting manbeast”.
And Larf is a Sasquatch.
He is an independent, privacy-loving, vegetarian, who believes nobody knows he exists–“and he likes it that way.” He spends his days taking walks and gardening with Eric, his bunny.
Larf decides he will have to take a bath.
The watercolor artwork is vivacious and fun, with toned-down bright colors on a white background. The characters and scenery are outlined thinly in black, adding to the attention to detail. Who wouldn’t love this quirky and humorous story that embraces both being alone and having companionship?
