Crafters and Do-it-Myselfers, welcome!
Linking-up today with my bud Carrie at Curly, Crafty Mom for her “Creative Corner Link-Up Party”. I am featuring a DIM goals blackboard that I have been working on in little baby Lucia steps for the past couple of months.
I purchased the blackboard at Hobby Lobby waaaaay back in February. I looked at lots and lots of different styles of boards before settling on this style. I want to be able to put the blackboard on the floor by the rocking chair where I do my daily devotions in our room. I figured that having it there, I will see it everyday and more likely be prompted to realize my goals.
I picked out and purchased a wooden letter C for the initial in my last name (Charming, of course), and some fabric flowers to decorate the board with. The colors of the comforter and pillow shams in our room are pale yellow, light blue and a sage green.
Since green in any and every shade is my favorite color, I decided to paint the C in the same shade of green as in the bedding. But that proved to be quite a feat. Here is my first attempt at trying to mix up that color.
I have a large set of acrylic paints but the color I wanted was not among my many tubes so I attempted to create the right color myself.
See all the shades of this celery green on the plastic lid I was using as my palette? While I liked this color, it just wasn’t exactly right. And even with my OCD meds on board, it was enough wrong that I started all over.
I do realize this photo is horribly blurry. My PC has trouble sometimes getting a focused pic on my phone. In addition, I do realize that my expression is a bit maniacal. I was making a face because PC was teasing me about repainting the C. He thought the first coat of color was good enough.
This color was ok, but was too blue-gray-green once it dried. And the new color didn’t cover the first color very well. So, it was back to Hobby Lobby in search of a tube of acrylic paint in the color I was unable to make for myself. And this is one reason why this goal blackboard took forever to complete. One of my goals became finishing my board!
Well, I found a tube of green paint that worked. Enter ocean green. And all this time I thought I wanted sage green.
Yeah, there it is, ocean green.
And I found some cute, smaller wooden letters to use instead of the one big C. So, I bought a lowercase L, R, and C. Brought the paint and letters home and let them gather a thin layer of dust while I went to Houston and Ft. Worth.
Last weekend I decided it was time to blow off the dust and get this board finished (before my third trip out of town in six weeks). Plus, we are almost half-way through the year, and just like with my planner, what’s the point of having a goals blackboard or a year planner if you don’t use them!
How about that green? Have a closer look.
And a closer look.
I added my little fabric flowers, some beads and buttons and at long last, my goals blackboard was finished.
Now to write my goals.

Question of the post: What kind of DIY projects have you created? Please share in a comment below. Would love to see pics, too.
Hugs and kisses,

Actually, my contention was that any of the first three colors you used on the C would be fine… 😉

That’s so super cute! Will you keep us updated with what you write on it??
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yes, thank you, Whitney. I am thinking why start goals for May when the month is more than half over. I have my goals written in my PLANNER – HA! So starting in June, I will write them on my blackboard. Stay tuned.

Sure will! This week. Thank you.

Bahaha! I love that PC actually commented on this! Does he read your blog? I am not sure if my husband reads my blog anymore… I know he used to and now he claims he does, but I really don’t think he does. lol. I am such a perfectionist, too and I would have tried to recreate and then I would have probably landed back up at Hobby Lobby, too! lol! I hope you share a photo with your goals on it! It turned out just so perfect!!!

You know, I didn’t think he did read it. Or only once in awhile, maybe. But lately he has been and has asked me about posts or mentioned something I wrote. I guess I better mind my Ps & Qs! Thank you for your sweet compliment. Need to link-up with your post. Never got around to doing that today!!!

I am such a perfectionist at most things that it truly gets in the way. I will share a pic of my board complete with goals this week. Thank you, sweet one!

That’s awesome that PC reads your blog and commented! I don’t think my Hubs has ever looked at my blog. This is such a cute DIY! I love how it turned out!

You might be surprised! I didn’t think PC read my blog either. And I think he often just kind of skims over it, but I am thrilled he does that!
Going to use my blackboard starting next week!! Thank you.

What a pretty blackboard! What goals did you write down?! I’m so curious now!

No goals yet! Ha! Will start with June.
