Welcome to Wednesday!
I can’t believe our third and final Wednesday of the Work Your Work Wear Challenge has come and almost gone. I have so enjoyed dressing up for work, even though I only really started working this last week of the challenge! But boy, did I learn how to be fashionable on the job from here on out. I improvised the outfits a couple of days in order to make them more appropriate for teaching art to little ones via the Young Rembrandts after-school art program. So here’s a look back at the challenge from my perspective. Enjoy!
On Day 9, I had errands to run and an application to submit in order to become a substitute librarian. I wore tan jeans and a bright red cardigan both from the Loft, a white long sleeved button up blouse from Dress Barn, a leopard belt from Target, black patent pumps from Kohl’s, and a bulky gold chain bracelet from LaurenHope. I felt a little uncertain in the outfit as I stepped before the mirror and then out the door. But received many compliments to boost my self esteem.
On Day 10, it was gray and cool and dreary – very un-El Paso-like. I felt super comfortable and yet put together in today’s challenge outfit. I wore my Old Navy boyfriend cardi paired with Loft super skinny (almost too skinny) dark wash jeans. Say that five times fast! My button up patterned blouse featured little blue bicycles with burgundy bicycle seats so my new burgundy flats were the perfect accent. My statement watch is from Steinmart and my necklace from Charming Charlie’s.
On Day 11 GUESS WHO (FINALLY) WENT TO WORK? You got it! First day on the job at Young Rembrandts. I kind of modified the day’s challenge outfit to make it a little more conducive to working with children. Blue and white striped tee with three-quarter length sleeves, the palest of pale mint green jeans from the Loft. So pale that they almost look dull, over-washed white. New Wal-mart leopard flats that remind me of ballet toe shoes that were just about that comfortable. NOT. COMFORTABLE. AT. ALL. But like them a lot. My statement necklace is from Old Navy and of course, my YR apron.
Feeling sentimental on Day 12. Loved the black and white patterned pants (Loft) paired with the furry leopard pumps from Payless. Who knew that pattern on pattern could look so snazzy??!! My blue oxford button down shirt is from Land’s End. Would never have paired black and white pants with a blue shirt until this challenge. Earrings and necklace from Charming Charlie’s. And then just as I thought I was dressed…somewhere from above in the Heavens my dad whispered to me that I should add my silver charm bracelet he gave me when I was a little girl. He and my mom bought the bracelet for a birthday or Christmas present and then every time we traveled anywhere on vacation, they would buy me a charm that represented the place we had visited. For other special occasions, my dad would buy additional charms that had some special significance. A ballerina. A Bambi. Except on Day 12 I realized my Bambi was missing. It left a little hole in my heart and last night I ordered a replacement exactly like the vintage deer by dad bought me.
Today! So today, I was back to work. I owe, I owe, so off to work I go – in a modified challenge outfit. Polka dot print blouse in some kind of silky fabric from New York and Company. Black Loft straight leg jeans. Black blingy earrings and color block shoes from Payless. I was so hot running from student to student – 19 students in today’s YR class – that I wanted to strip down to my skivvies. Gotta be burning some calories, right?
So that’s MY fashion week. Did any of these outfits look like something you are already wearing or might want to try? While you are here, please stop by the blogs of some of my fashion buddies below. Check out their take on our week of outfits. Thanks for stopping by!
