Fashionistas and friends,
Happy Valentine’s Day! This post is going to be kinda all over the place. A big spaghetti, you might say. Sharing my interpretation for the latest installment of Style Imitating Art (SIA), photos of my first stab at wearing white pants after Labor Day and a look at my 2-tier tray. The only thing that’s missing is a partridge in a pear tree.
Where to start? Let’s sweep the cobwebs out of my fashion haus and start there.
My Fashion Haus
You probably know by now that I don’t take myself very seriously when it comes to fashion. I even feel uncomfortable using that word about anything I wear. Getting dressed has been a whole lot easier for me since my first Get Your Pretty On style challenge back in 2014. And then participating in series like Style Imitating Art with Daenel, Salazar and their newest host Kim, helps me to think beyond the safety of ‘matchy-matchy’ outfits.
Style Imitating Art
This week’s SIA prompt, The End of Romance by Erté, was curated by Kim at Fierce Fashion. Kim reminded us to look beyond just color (which is where I always seem to get caught up) and to consider textures, mood, even genre of art.
Style: Art Deco | Genre: Painting | Fair Use
Here are 3 interpretations I put together.
Loft Outlet cords in burgundy and forest green. Pink, burgundy and green floral shirt from Loft Outlet. Pink gem embellished cardigan from Target. Green pullover sweater from The Limited. DSW booties, gifted necklaces, snowflake earrings from Charming Charlie and a hand-me-down leather clutch from mi madre!
Here’s the look I submitted as my final choice.
The rhinestones on the cardigan and my snowflake earrings reminded me of the snow in the painting. The colors in my outfit are similar to the colors in the art. And I chose the brogue booties because they have a kind of old-fashioned look to them.
Check out my new anklets! Inspired by some I have seen the ever-stylish Cindy Scurry wear on her blog, Middle Sister Style. Found them on Amazon.
With snowflakes, I might add.
White Pants for the Win
This look would qualify for a Stepping Outside My Comfort Zone post all on its own! I have seen lots of style bloggers wearing white pants after Labor Day. One who did so spectacularly is my friend Kellyann at This Blonde’s Shopping Bag. Check her out in this post wearing white pants in January. When the Blended Blog gals did a post on what they would never ever…do, wear, eat…my never ever was wearing white pants after Labor Day. But Kellyann encouraged me to keep an open mind and give them a try. So I did. Today.
Loft Outlet white denim straight leg jeans and open weave pink cardi. “Love one another” graphic tee from Super Awesome Threadz on Etsy. Target pink flats.
2-Tiered Tray
While in Kentucky, I struggled to keep up with my blog reading but in one quick visit to Carrie’s blog, Curly Crafty Mom, I saw her 2-tier tray and knew I needed one in my life as soon as I got home. Carrie even helped me shop for one on Amazon that was just right for my kitchen. Say hello to the Creative Co-op Red Metal Oval 2 Tier Tray with Handle.
And thanks to a little help from Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby and a couple of cute Etsy stores, here’s how I transformed this 2-tier tray into my own Valentine’s Day creation.
See that wooden bead garland? A precious gift from Carrie! Thank you, lady bug! And check out these other tiered-trays that inspired me to put together my own. Andrea’s at Living On Cloud Nine and Kellyann’s at This Blonde’s Shopping Bag. See all of those Valentine’s Day M&Ms in my Ball jar? Guess where they are now? In my belly! And on my hips, bottom and upper thighs. So sinfully good. I hope they don’t make St. Patrick’s Day M&Ms or I will need a new pair of white pants.
Your Turn
How are you spending your Valentine’s weekend? PC and I are saving our celebrations for Saturday and Sunday. I have a few tricks up my sleeve!
Thank you for visiting with me today. I appreciate your friendship! Linking up with Jennie, Carrie, Laura, Nancy and Gail. Hope you will stop by to check out how the real fashionistas dress!
Family hugs,
Nancy
Haha, loved the little note to Kellyann! Love that outfit too! I don t kan Amy White trousers but I will be on the look out for some!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, doll. Oh, Nancy, find some white trousers and then style them on your blog. Would love to see what you do with them.
Deb
I’ve never seen ‘anklets’ before – are they comfortable? I’m sure I’d keep trying to pull them up to stop them being ‘slouchy’! I like your take on the SIA prompt, those rhinestones definitely add a bit of snowflake to the outfit.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Deb. I saw the anklets on Cindy Scurry blog’s. I thought they were so feminine. Much sweeter than my old socks. But I did have a little trouble getting used to the slouchiness when I first put them on. After I had worn them for awhile, I got used to them being kind of loose. I felt pretty!
Em
Oh no, not the last SIA?! Such fun, clever posts! Love your interpretations…and you look fabulous! All those gym visits look great on you, Leslie. Rrrawrrrr!
I see white pants everywhere on line too..but it seems ridiculous here in bflo so no can do….I did succumb to the white shoe thing though. I felt so rebellious, lol.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Ok, where did you get your white shoes??? I am wanting white shoes or white booties. I have seen lots of girls styling them but they would be out of my comfort zone but sure would like to try them. Might need some pictures!!
Kellyann Rohr
Sweet Leslie I am so proud of you for wearing those white pants! You rocked them and I hope you’ll do it again! I wore my white jeans yesterday with a blush sweater and taupe boots – perfect for winter! You show those peeps in El Paso how to dress, liberate all the white pants that are patiently waiting to be seen!
Your tiered tray is spectacular! I love it! I hit up the Dollar Store for St. Paddy’s day stuff and this weekend I’ll make the big switcheroo from all things pink and red to all the green! Without spending too much green – ha!
Oh yeah you know I love your SIA look – that sweater and those anklet socks super cute. Kim is so good, such an artistic and creative eye! She is very inspiring!
xo,
Kellyann
Hope you have a wonderful weekend my friend!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, sweet friend. You know, not one soul in El Paso made a face at my white pants! And guess what? I am going to wear them again. Ha! If I can get into them. Have eaten waaaaay too much this weekend.
Need to find some St. Patrick’s Day stuff. Looked at Dollar Tree and they really didn’t have much. Don’t want to spend a lot of money but had fun decorating my tiered tray for Valentine’s. Dare I look for green M&Ms? I over-enjoyed the red and pink ones for Valentine’s.
Penny Struebig
Love the pink sweater with rhinestones!! You look adorable!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, sweet one! I liked that rhinestone sweater the minute I saw it at Target. I think I have a gray one, too. Need to explore the depths of my closet to find it.
Dara
I have white jeans…I wear them in the fall sometimes. Winter would be interesting! I love the tray!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Try the white jeans for winter. Thinking you still have a few weeks of winter left. Kansas gets some winter weather, right? But probably not like Jersey! I am going to wear my white again this week. Let me know if you try them.
Thanks for the compliments on the tiered tray. It was fun to put together.
Valerie
I love, love the floral shirt and maroon sweater. Will you be my personal shopper, my stitch fix. I look at the outfits you put together and wonder how much you spend on your wardrobe. I know it isn’t as much as it looks like, but I have solid solid and nothing interesting. Need to lose 10 lbs to feel good in anything, but want some cute stuff and don’t find it in my closet. HHHHEEELLLPPP.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I love you! Thank you for making me feel good. Do you know all of these pieces are a year or more old and all bought separately. When I see how everyone else puts outfits together, I feel very inadequate but I did like this one a lot. The solid green sweater is one I bought with you at the Limited. Need to wear it more. The trouble these days is that I don’t really go anywhere that requires me to get dressed up. Except Lexington! I need to lose 10 pounds, too. Maybe we both should track points til TLA? Thank you for the sweet words.
Jill Gruber
Good for you pushing yourself out of your comfort zone! You are rocking those white pants! And I’m loving your Erté inspired outfit too! Carrie is so sweet to help you with your tray! I love the one you picked out!
Jill – Doused in Pink
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Jill. I accidentally typed Jilly…does anyone ever call you that? The Style Imitating Art challenges are a lot of fun. I kind of like my interpretation, myself. This week’s inspiration is a shrine in Iran. Lots of greens and yellows. Can’t wait to figure out my outfit.
Donna
These are all great looks, Leslie! I especially love the snowflake stockings!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you. I felt so girly in my little anklets. Crazy how something small like that can make a difference.
Kimberly Malkiewicz
What great outfits, Leslie. I didn’t realize you put more than one outfit together for SIA. Congrats on stepping out in your white pants–did you get any comments? Your tiered tray is adorable. I like that it’s oval, a little different than you usually see. At least you freed they M&Ms from their confinement-ha!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Kim, for selecting such a lovely inspiration piece for SIA. It was one of my all-time favs. Looking forward to figuring out something for this week. I wore my white pants and didn’t get any comments, which is good, probably. El Paso is not necessarily fashion forward so I was a little worried about wearing my white after Labor Day!
I indeed freed those Valentine’s M&Ms from the Ball jar where they were confined. Now I am thinking I need to confine…most temporarily…some St. Patrick’s Day green M&Ms!
Akaleistar
I really like the idea of styling an outfit based on a work of art!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you! Come do Style Imitating Art with us! The piece for this week is a photo of a shrine in Iran. Check it out at 14 Shades of Gray.
Gail
Love your big old spaghetti! Now that’s a great interpretation of the SIA challenge. Textures and colours. Thanks for joining #WowOnWednesday link up!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
So proud of you, Gail, and how your WowonWednesday has taken off. Thank you for stopping by.
