Shutterbugs and photo-lovin’ friends glad to have you join me for The World Through My Lens 06.2024: Everyday Things. It’s been a minute since I’ve participated in any photo challenges. Again today, I am joining Kym at A Fresh Cup of Coffee for her Everyday Images photo challenge. Kym describes the challenge as a way to be more intentional about watching for interesting things in life that she can capture with her camera. She says that having prompts that are open to interpretation has helped Kym pay a little more attention to what’s around her.
Every two weeks she publishes a few words or phrases to focus on, and looks for opportunities to take pictures of these things. As I have done in the past with other challenges I have participated in, I will just be sharing my photos once a month. Here are the prompts for the end of May and June.
Everyday Images #37
- at home (monthly): haven’t taken a good photo of the house in the last couple of weeks. The grass is depressingly patchy and brown and our bushes and trees are struggling, too. So, here’s a picture from inside the house, of a photo of the house in better days, cooler temps, along with some patriotic decor.
- selfie (quarterly): with my favorite fella and a real nice tree, too
- remember: we wanted our parents to be remembered and present at Kevin’s wedding. My sister purchased this simple silver frame and I had their wedding picture ‘silverized’ by Digital Silver Imaging for the special day.
- far and/or near: a group of mother horses and their spring colts on the property of our AirBnB in Paris, Kentucky.
- blue: our Southwest flight from Chicago to Louisville. As per our usual, we had all kinds of issues trying to fly into Louisville for Kevin and LeeAnn’s wedding. Finally arrived just before midnight at our AirBnB.
- architecture: quaint, renovated apartment building in downtown Paris, Kentucky and PC, my sister and brother-in-law crossing the street and leaving me behind.
Everyday Images #38
- curved: meet Lily. She is one of my Rover.com customers for whom I did drop-in visits in June. Lily likes to play in her nylon tunnel so I climbed down on the floor to take a picture of her inside to send to her owner, Tina. The metal ribbing in the tube works well for this prompt.
- weather (quarterly): we are approaching El Paso’s monsoon season, which is really a misnomer and a joke most of the time. But we do at least see puffy clouds during this season. Poor El Paso has only had .88″ of rain this year. Yes, this YEAR. And 21 days of triple digit heat as of this writing.
- garden: ashamed to share photos of my raised bed garden. The stray kitties seem to be using it as a litter box. Not sure I want anything to grow now. But I was tickled to discover my day lilies blooming this year. With all this heat, they still found a way to come up.
- open and/or closed: that is the question. PC and I decided to walk around the mall to get our steps somewhere that was air conditioned but not on our dime; several anchor stores were closed – Dillards and Sears – but they had merchandise inside, so maybe they were just closed for the day after the 4th of July?? Which would be the 5th of July!! Hope they aren’t CLOSED permanently.
- station: Limerick at Hutchison L&N Railroad Station, built in the 1890s, recently restored as an AirBnB
- road: on our way to and from the wedding venue in Paris, Kentucky, we passed this spacious estate. On one trip past, Roby slowed the car down enough that I could snap this photo. I like the contrast between the dark fence and the white house and the curved road between them.
Everyday Images #39
- season (quarterly): as I mentioned above, the summer months are El Paso’s monsoon season. And we have actually had some rain. And some puddles!!
- at home (monthly): this picture was taken at home on the rare occasion of a recent 10 minute rain storm.
- hills: the cactus speckled hills rolling up to the base of the Franklin Mountains as they look on either side of the mountain road that bisects the city. It is so dry here.
- flag: flying over the Bourbon County courthouse.
- reflection: there were mirrors all about The Tap, where we had dinner the other night. I didn’t realize how many times we appeared in their reflections until after I took this picture. How many reflections do you see?
- books: these are the titles from which my online book club chose its 07.2024 book-of-the-month. I send the club members an email with book summaries for 8 titles and a Survey Monkey voting link. Can’t wait to see which book they choose for our next read. Not exactly a photograph, though.
Summer 2024 Photo Scavenger Hunt
Ruth at The West London Life has taken over hostessing responsibilities for this year’s summer photography scavenger hunt from Mary-Lou of Patio Postcards who has sponsored the photo challenge for years past. Ruth writes that she and her BFF compiled this summer’s photo prompts.
Here they are:

- What’s on your feet
- Favourite summer food/meal
- Something with wings
- Favourite summer reading nook/space
- Something colourful in your garden/neighbourhood
- Moving water
- Something that casts a shadow
- A kitchen utensil you hardly ever use
- A place of worship
- Mark the passage of time
- Your nation’s flag
- Something you’ve repurposed
Alternate A: Something misspelt or grammatically incorrect
Alternate B: Stamping
The scavenger hunt actually kicked off 06.01.2024 so I am joining the party a little more than fashionably late. It runs until 09.30.2024. Dates to share your finds are 07.29.2024, 08.28.2024 and lastly, 10.02.2024. I have enjoyed participating in these photo hunts in the past so look forward to doing so again this year. Why don’t you join us, too?
Your Turn
What have you captured lately in your lens? I really enjoyed snapping photos of Kentucky when we were there for my brother’s wedding a few weeks ago. It was sunny and green and beautiful and I could not get enough!! Wish I could have tucked a little of that green into my pocket to bring back to arid, brown El Paso.
Thank you for popping in. I appreciate the time you spend with me. Hoping to do a whole lot of blog reading this weekend to catch up with my friends. Will be by to visit YOU! Hope you will join me in visiting Kym at A Fresh Up of Coffee. Make this weekend a special one.
Hugs and kisses,
Lisa Elliott
I enjoyed your photos!!

Thank you, friend. I love taking pictures!!

You have some lovely photos! You did such a great job with these prompts.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you. Really struggling with this go-round of prompts.
Kym
What a great collection of photos! I especially enjoyed the various buildings you shared, as well as the photos of your beautiful home. The “reflection” photo presented an interesting challenge, finding all the reflections of you both – fun! Thanks for joining in with my photo challenge, and I’m glad to have found the Summer scavenger hunt challenge here, and will try to add those prompts so I can participate in that. Happy Summer!

Hi, Leslie! I always enjoy looking at your photos! I especially liked the one of you and your hubby in front of the tree, the horses on the hill, and the gorgeous daylily. We have been having a hot and dry summer, but we had a nice late afternoon rain yesterday that brought the temps down a little over 10 degrees. Nice! And when Hurricane Beryl hits the gulf coast this next week, we hope to get some more rain. I don’t like the destruction that it may bring down south, but we always welcome any rain we can get this time of year.

I think you guys have had some recent rain according to my daughter. We had a rain on 07.03 and then another rain 2 weeks ago. Hoping we get some here at home while we are gone to South Padre. With just a little rain, everything looks so much better. Thank you for your sweet compliment.

Wow! I cannot imagine living where it isn’t green. I hope your monsoon season is a little wetter than it has been. But, all of your photos are glorious. I love the silverized one of your parents’ wedding. I didn’t know such a thing could be done.

I get so discouraged trying to grow anything here in El Paso. We are going to be gone for a week and my poor potted plants are all going to die, I am afraid. Going to move them under the porch and ask the gal who is feeding our kitties to water them once or twice. Fingers crossed, they will survive my vacay.

Hi Leslie, I miss seeing your photography posts. Sometimes, I’m unaware that bloggers stop altogether, and I’m glad you are still sharing. Everything looks wonderful in your life. I hope you can hop into a Sunday Stills challenge one of these days.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you so much for coming by to visit and leaving these kind words. I am back for Sunday Stills this month!! I appreciate the invitation and encouragement.

Do you work for Rover.com?? Ohh, that is something I would probably love to do as a little side gig. Esp if it was cats moreso than dogs. Lol. I am just a cat expert! Ugh, sorry you had so much trouble flying in for the wedding. We have had pretty good luck with flights (except one time when we came back from Paris in 2010), but on our way to the airport for our Disney cruise we got a flat tire at 1:30 a.m. and it was so dark out! Brian was a champ and got it changed and thankfully it was the left side of the car… but, I was a nervous wreck! Didn’t need that to start our trip with!
