Sweet friends,
Thank you for joining me on my wellness journey. For “Wellness Wednesday, 02.2018”, I am going to give my wellness goals the once-over to see how I am progressing (to sum it up in a word…NOT). Share something cardio-related that I just discovered and am excited to try. And listing a few cardio tips that work for me.
3…2…1…blast off!
Wellness Wednesday, 02.2018
As you no doubt know, if you have read any post of mine written in the last three weeks, that …. let’s all say it together … I have broken my … FOOT! So for the last three weeks minus yesterday and today, I have spent a good deal of time whining about my foot and generally feeling sorry for myself.
But I am here to tell you that yesterday, I had a revelation. Remember that my word for the year is PEACE? Well, I have decided that the lesson to be learned, the purpose behind my broken foot is to provide an opportunity to incorporate more peace into my life. And rather than begrudge my lack of physical activity right now, I need to embrace it. To enjoy this slower time and to just BE.
So today is the first day that I am really welcoming this quieter time in my life. And for now, I think I might need to give myself some grace on my ambitious wellness goals. See what you think.
Wellness Goals
Here they are.
Exercise
Was doing well before I broke my foot but has been non-existent since. Had returned to the gym, lifting weights and had signed up for a 5K. Had been achieving 7K steps and often more, every day. Have been a real slug since. But look what I just found.
Yes, she is wearing a boot identical to mine!! And starting tomorrow, I am going to be doing this work out and using my hand weights right here at home.
Diet
I have been using more Weight Watchers recipes and cooking at home (ha, because I can’t go out!!). Drinking my water like a good, girl. Even on Super Bowl, I only had one beer. And aside from the delicious homemade cinnamon rolls I baked last week, my sweet tooth has gone un-indulged. Why isn’t that a word? It should be.
Staying Well
Sunscreen, check. Breast exams/skin exams, check. Floss, yes. And…seek peace…on that now. Oh, baby, I am on that now.
Mental Wellness
Read. Can’t do much else. Work puzzles, not yet. Write, check . Have written a lot more here and have taken my children’s book/story in a new direction. They say write what you know. So I am adding experiences from my tween-age years to my story.
Spiritual Wellness
Devotional time. I have been pretty faithful to my devotional time in the morning but haven’t always done my entire Miracle Morning routine. And I miss it. The meditation and visualization and affirmation aspects of the Miracle Morning promote peace. My gratitude journal has been full of ‘woe is me’ strangely disguised as gratitude. But will be more sincerely thankful now that I have this new outlook.
Relationship Wellness
PC has been sick all week with an upper respiratory infection. So we have spent a lot of time together in bed. But not the kind of time in bed that would count toward spicing up the love life! But it has been nice to have him home. We have been blissfully lazy. And on most days, we have unplugged by 9:00 pm.
(Cardio) Tips
Part of today’s link-up was to share cardio tips. Not doing much cardio lately. Have you heard, I’ve broken my foot. Just had to say it one more time. Ha!
Ok, cardio tips. When I am two-footed, there are a number of cardio activities I enjoy. Here are some things I do to make working out more fun.
- I think the biggest tip I can share is to find a cardio exercise you like doing, something that won’t feel like drudgery. Swimming, running and hiking fall into that category for me.
- Doing a cardio activity can be made more enjoyable when you take someone along. Join a gym and GO with your PC, walk with a friend, hike, roller blade (did that with my girls), go for bike rides.
- Download some great music or a good book and just walk!!
- Get a FitBit, or a watch like my GearFit that works with my Samsung phone. Keep track of your steps and stairs each day. Push yourself to meet or beat your goals.
- Rally the troops. My sister and daughters and I are all trying to use more Weight Watchers recipes. So we share ideas with one another. Get members of your posse on board with your fitness journey or inspire them to create their own.
Finally, treat yourself to some cute workout clothes and a good pair of shoes. Let me go on the record here as saying I don’t like Nike. In my opinion, their stuff is WAY overpriced. And who wants to go around giving them free advertising with a big swoosh on your behind, like a billboard? No thanks.
I suggest Target, Walmart or Academy for inexpensive active wear. Just after New Year’s with resolutions and wellness goals in mind, I bought 2 pairs of Danskin yoga pants, and 2 loose fitting sweatshirt-type tops and two sports bras for less than $100. I would rather have more pieces to make more outfits than a big swoosh any day.
I will let you know how the chair cardio work out goes. Just looking forward to sweating and having my heart beat faster again. Hope that when we share our next “Wellness Wednesday” update in March, I can put a big check mark by all of the goals on my list.
Your Turn
If you set some wellness goals or made some health-related resolutions for 2018, how are you faring on your goals? Is there one item that you need encouragement for? Is there an activity for which you have had particular success? Please share. I would love to cheer you on and celebrate your triumphs.
If you blog, please mark these “Wellness Wednesday” dates on your agenda so you can link-up and post with us.

Crazy how a change in frame of mind can make things feel better. I am truly eager to wake up tomorrow, feeling at peace and better adjusted to my temporary inconvenience. Thank you for putting up with me! Feel free to give me a swift kick in the fanny if I begin complaining again.
Hugs and kisses,
Cindi
So sorry to hear about your foot. UGh!
Wal Mart sells great workout wear, at reasonable prices from Danskin. I bought a few new outfits from there and wear them ALL.THE.TIME. (embarrassing, for sure!)
Having had the flu since Xmas, I’m just starting to venture out and return to my work out routines. Taking it slow, of course. I don’t want a relapse.
Stay well. Hang in there!

Good luck with your recovery!

You’re doing well, Leslie, to maintain your wellness even though your foot injury has postponed some of your planned activities. Great cardio tips and great sportswear finds! While you’re waiting for your foot to heal, reading, writing, being at peace, enjoying time at home with PC, etc. are all important. Thank you for joining in the link up and creating the codes for us. I look forward to your next update in March.

Hi Leslie I love your positive spin on not being able to exercise because of your injury. Sounds like you are doing well with your goals and I totally agree with your tips on ways to be motivated with cardio. Having a friend to join you is great to stay motivated and I don’t buy expensive workout gear except for my running shoes. I try to bet them when they are on sale. take care and hope your PC is feeling better xx

You are right, investing in good running shoes is important! But I would rather have a variety of inexpensive workout clothes to choose from than a few overpriced (in my opinion) pieces that have the word PINK or a big swoosh blazing across my body!! Nothing pink on my body that needs to be pointed out to the world!! Ha!!
PC is back on track, thank you, and I have been cleared to work out…upper body…at the gym. Yay! Making progress. XO

You have a great strategy for wellness Leslie. I’m a Weight Watchers coach and, when members are struggling with their wellness or weight loss, we suggest they start by concentrating on just one or two things for the first week, then add one more task/goal each week. That way, you’re not feeling overwhelmed. Remember to be kind to yourself 🙂 x

Thank you for stopping by! I think I tend to overdo it with goals and pressures that goals can present. You are so wise to suggest adding tasks and goals a bit a time. Thank you for sharing that sage advice!

How great is it that you found an exercise you can do despite the boot? I’m with you on the branded gym wear thing – it’s not my thing. I also avoid those “motivational” logos, not me either.
