Morning glories,
Here we are at the end of another month which means it is time for Stepping Outside My Comfort Zone, 10.2018. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what I had to share for this month’s post. And then it came to me…
Stepping Outside My Comfort Zone, 10.2018
Love Loft
I’ve been wearing skinny jeans for some time but apparently my skinny jeans aren’t all that skinny. Most of the time, I buy my pants and jeans at Loft or Loft Outlet. Partly because I can wear a size 8 at Loft. And on my skinny days, I can even squeeze into a size 6, if I hold my mouth (and my breath) just right. Plus, I don’t have to try them on. Can be assured that a curvy size 8 will fit on Monday, Tuesday and even on Saturday after a big meal. That means a lot to me. I can have confidence that if I order Loft pants or jeans online, they will fit. Just like a rose by any other name is a still a rose…an 8 is an 8 is an 8. Hallelujah! Gotta love that consistency.
Not-so-Skinny Jeans
Probably has something to do with that little bit of stretch, that little bit of give in the fabric that will expand after a big plate of Mexican. But sometimes that play in the fabric plays too much. And my skinnies don’t look skinny anymore. But they sure are comfy. As my mama would say, they wind up looking like the family moved out of the back of my pants.
Kellyann Comments
A few weeks ago, I opened up my fashion haus to share a some of my fav outfits from the Get Your Pretty On fall capsule wardrobe challenge. If you missed that post, please take a sec to have a quick peek at those looks, here.
My blogging buddy Kellyann at This Blonde’s Shopping Bag, left the sweetest comment on that post.
Now Leslie, why in the world my friend do you feel silly taking outfit photos? You are cute as a button and look great! With that cute figure of yours I think you need to head yourself right on over to Old Navy and get some pants that fit better. In my opinion these are all too baggy on you. I used to do the same thing – buy jeans and pants that felt comfortable and didn’t feel constricting. Then I tried Old Navy Rockstar and what a difference. I swear they feel as comfortable as leggings but look so much better.
It’s too hot where I live too to wear any kind of sweater but I am anxiously awaiting cooler temps so I can bust’em out! Please share more of your fashion with us – you are a beautiful woman!
xo,
Kellyann
Just reading that again, warms my heart. And it got me thinking. Maybe I could just try on some Old Navy Rockstar pants? Wouldn’t cost anything to try them on.
From Inside the Old Navy Dressing Room
Last Thursday while PC was at ball practice, I snuck/sneaked off to the mall. Had seen Kellyann rockin’ some mustard Rockstar jeans on her blog and instantly wanted some of my own.
[source]
So when she encouraged me to try them, I knew I had to! ON only had Kellyann’s fabulous mustard Rockstar jeans available in size 8 but not in size 10. Had to try on a 10 in olive.
These were skinny alright. Like a second skin. I think especially in this color, a size 8 is too tight. Almost looks like I don’t have pants on at all.
Wriggled out of these sausage casings in order to try on the olive size 10s.
Yeah, that’s better. Skinnier than my former Loft skinnies but not as skinny as the size 6 Rockstars. Not too hot, not too cold…just right. I think.
Before I changed back into my Loft jeans, I sent out a cry for help on Instagram. Posted this photo and asked for opinions on whether the size 10 Rockstar jeans were too tight on me.
Thank goodness for social media and good friends. Everyone gave me the thumbs up, including Kellyann, my skinny jeans mentor. She wrote:
thisblondesshoppingbag They fit!!!! As long as they are comfortable they are fine. You look amazing my friend!!!😘👍🏻❤️
I changed into my own clothes and grabbed a sales person to help me order them. Because Old Navy didn’t have the size I needed in the store, they had them shipped to my home for free.
Arriving on Thursday
My new really and truly skinny jeans are due to be delivered on Thursday. Trying these jeans on at Old Navy was a perfect step outside my comfort zone, 10.2018. But wearing my new really and truly skinny jeans will be a perfect step outside my comfort zone, 11.2018. So hope you will come back to see how my skinnies fit and how I style them. That mustard color is everywhere! Should be fun to build some outfits around these pants.
Your Turn
Is there a fashion trend you have been timid about embracing? How skinny are your skinnies? Do you wear off-the-shoulder or cold shoulder tops? When statement necklaces first became ‘a thing’, I was a little uncomfortable about wearing all that bling. How ’bout you? Men’s wear. Palazzo pants? Mixing prints and patterns. Oh, I know…wearing white after Labor Day. Have any of those fashion trends made you a little uncomfortable? Did you overcome your fear to wind up embracing the latest style?
Have a stepping outside your comfort zone post to share? Please link up with us.
I want to thank Kellyann for giving me a gentle nudge outside my comfort zone. And a big thank you to the gals who responded to my plea for advice on Instagram…kimkstreet, fashionablyfifty, lbambrick, thisblondesshoppingbag (Kellyann), daniellempark, wendybuer, and casey_s_rooney.
Check it out…my signature is back!
Hugs and kisses,

What a lovely comment from your blog-friend! And so encouraging and supportive too. Those jeans look fab on you, you have the figure to carry that look off, can’t wait to see how you style them once they arrive!

Leslie, I am SO PROUD of you – taking fashion risks is a big step but this paid off my friend. These look amazing on you and I am so happy you found the “Goldilocks” of skinnies! I also thank you for the shout out from your bossy blog friend – lol. There’s just something special about the fabric in those Rockstars – I swear they are just as good as premium denim for a fraction of the price. I cannot wait to see you wearing these!

Since I’ve started losing weight, I’m a bit more brave with the fashion I try. So good for you for getting out there and trying! I love those olive pants, so that was an awesome choice. I really need to get to Old Navy. I could use some new pants. 🙂

I love Old Navy Rockstar jeans. Glad they worked for you!

Wow! They DO look fabulous on you!
Based on your description our sizing seems VERY similar (I do think I may be a long lost sister)… AND I have the same reaction to khaki, mustard and pink jeans being too akin to skin.
BUT (no pun intended), in my case the family NEVER (ever) moves out of the back room…they continue to fill all available space. Sigh…
So wear them FOR me, K?!!! You are rocking them!
Natalie
Well done, Leslie! Olive colour is great with so many other colours. I look forward to your November post on how you style your new jeans.

Those look fantastic on you!!!! I just bought a pair of Rockstar pants in regular blue last week. I want that mustard color though!!! Love the olive too! Perfect to dress up for holiday get togethers!

You should be jumping for joy Leslie…because this is exactly how we all should step outside our comfort zone. It’s the easiest with clothes because it’s not like they are permanent. So why do we get so worried?? I’m the same way which is why I can relate. It’s only in these past couple of years have I embrace all things new in style and fashion. And it’s darn right fun!!
Besides you are one rocking chic!! (that’s a compliment in case you couldn’t read millennial talk…)

This is the sweetest post! I’m SO glad you took Kellyann’s advice (isn’t she the best cheerleader!?) and tried these jeans. They look GREAT on you! I also think the olive color was a great choice. They will go with so much. Great job stepping outside your comfort zone!

Isn’t it funny how we get used to something and think it’s perfectly normal/stylish? Kellyann is so sweet, I’m glad she gave you the nudge and encouragement you needed. And I’m with you on good days, when I breath just so, I can fit into a 10, otherwise, it’s a 12-haha!

Hi Leslie,
Good to “meet” you. I found your site through Kellyann’s blog. I blog as well. I am a big fan of the Rockstar jeans, and when I tried them on, I think I bought 4 pair at the time. Black, grey, light and dark. Love your olive pair on you, the fit is great! I love that they are soft too. It is fun to experiment and step outside our comfort zones, you may find something that surprises you.

What a lovely post. You look great in those skinnies, no surprise considering your gorgeous figure which Kellyann has helped you to play to. This season my challenge is plaid shirts. Last year it was faux leather leggings which our mutual friend started bossing me into getting (yes, I’ve been a victim!). And she won, she always does. But I have to admit she was right, she always is. From the moment I wore my fauxs, I loved them. So it really is useful to have bossy friends like Kellyann in our lives, and I can see from your post that you wholeheartedly agree! Hugs, x.

That Kellyann is a human doll. I absolutely adore her.
Now, to your skinny jeans… Yes, girl, yes!!! That fit is beyond fabulous on you. I’m glad you ordered them. I can’t wait to see you style them.

Kellyann is a human doll. Or angel. Or both. I found her through your blog. And the comments she always left. Such kind, thoughtful comments. I had to get to know her myself.
Thank you so much for YOUR kind words about my new skinnies. Finding that I want to push my old skinnies that weren’t so skinny to the back of the closet, and wear only these. Good thing I ordered a few more pairs. Might be hard to get away with wearing these mustard pants every day!!
