Snow bunnies, today’s prompt for the #write28days challenge has me reminiscing about summer days on my raft in our pool. That, on a day when I also delighted in a 2-inch snowfall on my Chihuahua Desert home. Our landscape was dazzling white when I awoke this morning. Couldn’t wait to get outside to snap some pictures.
The low temperature for tonight will be well below freezing. And while I love snow, I really, really dislike being cold. So, writing about floating on my raft rekindles thoughts of sizzling summer days. And that works just fine.
Raft
PC and I invested in some better than dollar store inflatable rafts a couple of summers ago. Rather than being made of vinyl that sticks to your skin sticks, these rafts are covered in a sueded fabric. And they have these detachable inflatable pillows that make them even more comfortable. And come complete with a drink holder for our…ummm, adult beverage of choice.
Throughout the long Covid summer days of stay-at-home restrictions, our pool became an escape. We purchased a triangular canvas sail that we suspended from the pergola on one vertex and from the wrought iron rail on the second-floor balcony on the other two vertices.
The sail provided just the right amount of shade over the center of the pool. When we floated around on the pool, we would drift in and out of the shade.
And for a few moments on that raft in the middle of the pool in our own backyard, I was able to escape. I could pretend I was at an all-inclusive adult resort away from all the worries of a global pandemic. And the worries of LIFE, and troubles plaguing my little family.
My word of the year (WOTY) is flow. On days when I am struggling to go with LIFE’s flow, I need to remember the peace that comes from floating on a raft in our pool. Maybe that will help.

Your Turn
How would you respond to today’s prompt? It just occurred to me that often rafts are thought of as life-saving devices. And I guess, in a way, my raft is just that.
Thank you for coming by! May you enjoy smooth sailing throughout 2022.
Hugs and kisses,
Deb
Oh wow! You have created the most perfect place to spend time relaxing outside!
Love that little snowy cactus, it looks like he has little snowballs in his hands ready to throw!

I keep dreaming of warm sunny days floating on a raft too; though I wouldn’t mind doing that somewhere with palm trees right now instead of listening to the freezing rain.

When I was teaching fourth grade, we used camping as a theme so many of the books we read were about camping and rafting. But, what I also think about is white water rafting. I love it! I hope we can get one more in before Nigel decides he’s too old! And, I can see how your raft made the world a better place during the summer. (PS…we also have a sun sail on our back deck.)
