Welcome friends, it’s been a month since I revealed my winter bucket list and today it’s time for the first update on my progress. Gathering with some of my favorite blogging buddies to see what we’ve ticked off so far and to figure out what’s left to do. While I call mine a bucket list, some gals prefer to call them activity lists or fun lists. But no matter what we call it, these are lists of experiences we planned for this season.
For past seasonal bucket lists, I have sometimes listed very specific activities. Other times, my lists have been broader and a little less defined. You can check out my ambitious 2018 winter bucket list, here. Or click here to review last year’s list.
No matter the types of activities on each season’s list, I need to be sure to remember that the point of these bucket list exercises is to live life more intentionally. And to pack some new experiences in with the everyday routines. Oh, and that nothing is written in stone!! I need to give myself some grace if our activities don’t go as planned.
Let’s see where I stand on my winter bucket list.
My Winter Bucket List: Update, 02.2020
FIRST 5:
- Make grandma’s cinnamon and orange rolls. ✔️ Made these for my Sweet Labor of Love Recipe Swap and Blog Hop post. They were pretty good but not as good as my mom’s. Need to make them more often to feel more comfortable with the recipe. I’ll get better! And plan to make homemade bread this week.
- Try 2 new restaurants. The Melting Pot, a fondue restaurant, opened last year and I have been interested in trying it. Also thinking it’s high time we try Rosa’s Cantina of the Marty Robbin’s song fame. ✔️ Several weeks ago we tried a university area bistro called GeoGeske. The food was scrumptious but a little pricey. They had these little cheesy things with the salad that really floated PC’s boat. We visited Rosa’s Cantina about a week ago. The restaurant was kind of quaint and the food was okay. But not up to the standards of some of our favorite Mexican restaurants. The Melting Pot is up for consideration on this weekend’s date night.
- Visit our new neighborhood bar. PENDING. Several months ago the Tin Man Pub opened within walking distance of our neighborhood. We planned to hit it up the other day but didn’t make it happen. Soon.
[source]
- Listen to a book with PC. PENDING We have done this several times in the past. Thinking we could listen in the hot tub and then in the car when we are out and about. Haven’t picked one out yet but will get on that right away.
- Participate in Proverbs 31 online Bible study. ✔️ My SIL and friend Metra happened to mention she was doing this Bible study and invited friends to join her. I am on my 4th week.

SECOND 5:
- Scrapbook Lucia and Cami’s births. PENDING. Have been working on scrapbooking Lauren and Francisco’s wedding. Didn’t want to scrapbook the babies’ births until I had their parents ‘married!’ About have the wedding finished. Onward and upward.
- Take a course or class. PENDING. Had thought about a couples pottery class a la the movie “Ghost” with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore but it was on the same day as PC’s first baseball game. Now I am looking into taking a mosaics class. Need to write a post about that!! It was providential that I found out about Terri Wright’s studio. I have started lessons to learn how to play pickleball, so that kinda counts, right?
- Attend a UTEP basketball game. ✔️ We enjoy cheering on the Miners during football season. And enjoyed a UTEP basketball game a couple of weeks ago. The Miners lost but we had good seats, there was kettle corn and cold beer, and fun activities during the timeouts. Would like to go again.
- Enjoy an Alan Jackson concert. PENDING. Confession: this has been on the agenda for several months. Actually, since we first met…so even longer than that. Can’t wait til 02.21.2020!
- Delight in a weekend away. PENDING. We really, really need this! Will be going to Phoenix for the last weekend of February for some Cincinnati Reds spring training baseball. Happy upcoming birthday, my P. Charming.
Let’see, with 10 activities on my list, it seems I have only accomplished…oh, boy, 4 of them. Looks like I have my work cut out for me, doesn’t it? But I am nothing if not a grand procrastinator!! I have all faith that come this time next month when I share my final update on 03.21.2020, and my spring bucket list as well, there will be little green ✔️s all over the place.
Your Turn
Please link up your winter bucket or fun activities list with us. And then pop over to see how the other gals are coming on their lists.
If you don’t blog, I am sure you still have lots of activities you planned for this season. How are you coming along on those? Was there something you’ve done recently with the fam or solo that was especially fun or exhilarating? Share in a comment!!
Thanks for spending a few moments of your day with me. I am over and out and off to do laundry.
Hugs and kisses,
Nancy
Trying new restaurants is what we want to do, but we keep coming back to the ones we know! Hot tub?? Oh that sounds so good! Weekend away? Yes next weekend! Happy weekend Leslie!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Nancy. We love the hot tub. We had gotten stuck going to McDonald’s for dinner before I started doing bucket lists. NO BUENO. But PC could eat a cheeseburger everyday. So glad we are branching out. There are many good inexpensive restaurants in El Paso.
Joanne
I’ve been doing pretty good on our bucket list… we haven’t had any snow yet though so a few of my items like “go snowshoeing” haven’t happened.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hard to do snow activities when the weather doesn’t cooperate. We have had 2 very nice little snows, which is about all we ever get. I always want to put build a snowman or make a snow angel on my lists for winter but know better!!
Dara
Even if you haven’t accomplished a majority of these, they are in the works so that’s great!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, friend. I think I will get green check marks on everything by the time we reveal our spring lists.
Deb
Any tick on a list is something to be pleased with so you should be happy that a few things have gone from ‘to do’ to ‘done’!
Always good to try out a new restaurant and I bet that fondue place will be good. I haven’t had fondue for years, maybe I need to dust off that fondue pot and buy some cheese!
ShootingStarsMag
You’re on the right track! So have you gone to The Melting Pot yet? There’s one near me and I’m OBSESSED with the place. I’m planning on going next month for my mom’s birthday -we haven’t been in awhile.

Still haven’t gotten to the Melting Pot. We are headed to Phoenix for the weekend so might try to find one out there. Hearing from everyone that it is fabulous. Hope you do get to take your mom for her special day.
Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom
I love the idea of listening to an audio book together. I would love to do that with Brian when life slows down for us a bit. Right now I’m listening to the Enneagram book Kelly Ann was talking about and ohh, if you haven’t looked into Ennegrams and relationships you need to!! I just know it’d be something you’d love to learn about. My Nathan LOVES the Melting Pot!!! They have fun cocktails, too. I love your winter list! I need to do one for the summer and I’m already thinking about it.

Thanks for mentioning the Enneagram book. I went promptly over and took the test. Then had PC take it, too. We need to compare our results but are about as opposite as we can get. Hope we can get to the Melting Pot soon. Love the idea of fondue!! Seems kind of cozy and romantic to me.
Laurie
Those. Cinnamon. Rolls. Oh my goodness, they sound wonderful! Even though only 4 items could be checked off your list, you have a bunch of “pending” activities. There is still another month left in winter, so you have some time. Have fun at spring training!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Laurie. I think I can easily earn a check mark beside each of the remaining items on my winter bucket list. Already thinking ‘spring!’
Gail
You always have such great ideas! Mosaics would be fun. I expect you’re in Phoenix now so have a good break. I should have been going to Germany for work this week but because it’s a big trade fair with people from all over the world, my company cancelled our participation because of the coronavirus. Shame!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you!! We head to Phoenix on Friday. Ready to have a little vacation in the sun. My brother is attending a big trade fair in Vegas in a few weeks and many of the countries abroad have canceled due to the coronavirus. I am a teensy bit scared about flying this weekend. Would I look crazy in a mask? Or maybe crazier without a mask!
Amy Johnson
You are always so ambitious my friend! My winter bucket list: finish redecorating my family room, although I am waiting for my husband to finish his part, which is holding my part up. He was sick last weekend, so he had to take the weekend off.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hope your hubs is on the mend and able to get his part of the family room redecorating done. Then you can do yours, which is probably much more fun!! I am doing a little redecorating in our bedroom. Will share once I get things finished.
Bojana
I agree completely that these lists help us live a life that we want and with intentionality. It’s a great way to reflect and pause to check if what we are doing truly important to us. Have fun on your getaway next week. We are hoping to catch a spring season ball game while in AZ too.

Who are you guys cheering for and going to see play at spring training? The facilities are so nice and the weather is perfect in Arizona this time of year. Hope you have a great time. We leave day after tomorrow and this girl is ready!!

Hello Leslie. It’s always fun hearing about what you’ve been doing–or are planning to do. I love the idea of listening to a book with PC. My husband and I just listened to a podcast together during a 4-hour drive. The time just flew by! Thanks also for the reminder that the purpose of these seasonal bucket lists is to live our lives more intentionally. That puts things in perspective for me and gives a little different feel than just reaching goals or checking things off the list. It’s about the doing, not the getting done. Happy winter!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I like the way you said that…bucket lists are about the doing, not the getting done. And if we don’t get any of our activities accomplished but still have enjoyed our season, then bully for us!!
Liz Klebba
OMGoodness! Kettle Corn and cold beer sounds like an amazing combination! Are you enjoying pickle ball? My aunt and uncle are avid players, and our Pickleball bunch at the Y look intense. I’m more of a sport for amusement (vice competition) person. You’re doing great on your list! Can’t wait to hear more! XO
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I am not very competitive at all!! Ha! Unless it comes to running, maybe. But I am enjoying pickleball. Just learning the game right now, and trying to keep the ball in play. Hope to get better!
Kellyann Rohr
I am always inspired by your bucket lists! I have a hard time coming up with things, makes me think I must be very dull -or very easy to please since all I seem to want to do is a read a good book or binge watch a show!
I think a bar withing walking distance is a great idea! I’d be all over that! Alan Jackson is a fave of mine – I’d love to see him!
xo,
Kellyann
Leslie Roberts Clingan
There’s a lot to be said for reading a book or enjoying a show on binge. I started the bucket list posts because we were in such a rut, doing the same thing every weekend. The bucket lists have really inspired me to look for unique experiences. And once I started looking, I was amazed at what there was going on around me. Lots of months, there is so much going on that I have to pick and choose and miss out on several things. We tried our neighborhood bar this past weekend but were both so full from dinner that we were really miserable adding to that a big IPA. But we suffered through.
Jill Weatherholt
This is quite an impressive bucket list, Leslie. You’ve inspired me! Great to meet you through our mutual friend, Donna. <3
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Jill!! I appreciate you coming by. Come do a spring bucket list with us!!
Jill
Good for you checking off so many things on your bucket list! My husband and I listen to podcasts together. We should try an audiobook. We have a Melting Pot near us and it’s so good!

Oh, I know I am going to love Melting Pot. This weekend we are going out of town so maybe we can find one in Phoenix to try. I haven’t had fondue in years.
