Ho-ho-ho-hello!
It is December 1 (I know…what?), which means it is time to reveal my mini holiday bucket list, 12.2018. Writing to you from under the comforter on our king-sized bed where I have been struggling all day to stay warm. Have a bit of a tummy bug but still planning to run in that Claus and Paws 5K tomorrow, if the pizza my PC wants to order for dinner doesn’t kill me first!
I will be out of town for over a week starting next Thursday so had to keep that in mind in planning my bucket list. For that reason, kept things purposefully vague. Let me show you.
My Mini Holiday Bucket List, 12.2018
Here’s what I have in mind.
- Lights: The 4th annual Lights on the Lake kicks off this weekend. Ascarate ‘lake’ is more of a man-made ponding area than it is a real lake but it’s all the water we have ’round here. Unless you count the Rio Grande which is actually a tiny stream. Also want to do the Christmas light scavenger hunt. We had some fun doing it last year, my PC and I. Why don’t you join us? Snap a pic and create a collage of your favorites, then share 12.24.2018 on Instagram using #2018ChristmasLightScavengerHunt and comment with how many of the lights you were able to find. Here the prompts.
- Camera: Would like to have some professional photographs taken of the two of us. We have never done that unless you count the pictures we had taken at a church Valentine dance several years ago. So no professional wedding pictures or anniversary photos. Hope we can make this happen. This is a selfie we took at home before the dance. The dance where we didn’t dance. Well, I did. By myself. Boo hoo.
- Action: Making something for the holidays…a craft, a special recipe. Not sure what this looks like yet. Maybe making a special memory with my mom!
- Love: Have some ideas for this…was thinking a backwards date. Thought I made that up til I looked on Pinterest to discover there are other gals out there just as ‘clever’ as I thought I was.
- Magic: Do something magical for someone else in the spirit of Christmas.
In this post, I shared a couple other activities I will be participating in during the month. Everything might be complicated a little by being away from home, but what do they say? Where there’s a will… there’s a whole lot of extended family fighting over a meager inheritance. Or something like that.

A lovely list! Hope your trip goes well and your Mom continues to improve.
My Holiday Mini-Bucket List is:
1. Cook new things! I have 3 social events that call for bringing food and have found 3 new recipes to try.
2. Have fun shopping for gifts! I am filling large gift bags this year for each couple (son and DIL) plus small gifts for our granddaughter as I want her to really enjoy a few things amidst the excess she will receive. So far I have sent her a deer ornament for her first tree as 3 deer visit her yard and she is enchanted.
3. Enjoy the time with others at social events! So far I have 2 club parties and Christmas as son and DIL’s locally.
4. Get out and enjoy the seasonal events and decor! Not sure what this will involve but want to do it.

Great bucket list. Glad you found a recipe for the large gathering of 30+. Look forward to reading about what you prepare.
Have FUN while shopping! We often grumble about gifting. The ornament you sent your granddaughter is sure to be a lifelong favorite of hers. I had forgotten that I wanted to do that with my granddaughters. Thank you for the reminder.
I think even if we don’t intentionally take a drive to notice the Christmas lights, it helps if we are just more mindful of the efforts of everyone at this time of year to bring a little more cheer into the world.
Thank you SO MUCHO for sharing your list. Hope you will comment with an update when we post again.

I think professional photos would be just lovely! I was thinking we haven’t done any family photos (professional) for awhile and I’d like to maybe do some at the Boardwalk in Disney when we go this summer. We’ll see if it’ll work out or if we can fit that price in our budget after paying for just the trip itself. LOL. You must do this backwards date and share all the details!

Ha! I am so glad you mentioned our professional photos…I put them on my list and promptly forgot I had. Have the name of a gal on my frig that does photography and thought I would contact her. Geez, what does it say about my mental status that I need my friends to keep me straight on my own bucket list?? I appreciate YOU. Fam photos at Disney would be darling! Do it, do it before your babes are grown up and you wish you had!!
I am glad the backwards date caught your eye. I thought you would like it. Now to find a weekend to make it happen. Or maybe PC and I call in sick and do it on a weekday?

I hope your upcoming trip involves your precious granddaughters, but hope all goes smoothly regardless. I am super intrigued by your backward date and look forward to hearing more about it when you post your next update.
Have a wonderful weekend!

So glad I added the backwards date to my list. It might be the most fun activity of the season. Although, I will see both grands between now and early January and that is sure to be wonderful. Just need to find a free weekend to do our date. We need a week with two Saturday nights to get everything done!!

I can never seem to get myself together enough to come up with a bucket list regularly. I am just trying to make it day to day, lol! Honestly sometimes I feel like I am just barely hanging on – I know – dramatic. I am anxious to hear about the backwards date!
xo,

Sweet friend, I can totally relate to feeling like you are just hanging on. Some mornings lately, opening my eyes has been a struggle. I just don’t want to deal. And you are not being the least bit dramatic. You are living through an immensely difficult time in your life. I think of you every day.
The backwards date should be fun. If I can just make it happen! And be in the right frame of mind to enjoy it and not just go through the motions. Stay tuned!

It’s nice to have some professional photos taken. Although our phones do a great job now too. If you lived closer, I’d send my hubby out to get you guys together!!

Oh, Jodie…I wish I could borrow Rob for a day of photography. He does such a great job but has such great ‘material’ to work with! I want to have casual outdoor photos done. And need to look into that today!

This is such a cute list!

Thanks sugar foot. Your book is on the way. XO

I like that your bucket list is a bit vague here – it just means you can switch things around to suit your needs and how much time you have available. Love the idea of a light scavenger hunt!

Ha, I like that you picked up on the intention behind my vague list. Things are kind of upside down in my life so I thought it better to be kind of vague. And I need to not beat myself too badly if things don’t happen. Some days I am just barely hanging in. How is your sister doing these days? I know you can relate to having someone you love hospitalized. Hope she is back to 110%!

Your mini list seems so fun. Thanks for this simple printable bucket list.

I love the categories you used instead of just listing activities. And what’s a backwards date?! I suppose I could go look it up but I’m kind of hoping you’ll share a post about it!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Had to push my backwards date from my holiday bucket list onto my winter bucket list. Have been away from home caring for my mom for three weeks. Hard to have a date of any kind when I am away from my PC. But stay tuned. I am going to be sure to make that backwards date happen in the near future. XO
