Hello, fashionistas!
It has been many moons since I was last in “My Fashion Haus”. And for this post, just kind of breezed in to snap some photos real quick. Could hardly get in the door for the cobwebs! Recently admired Jamie’s band tee outfits so decided to get on the … bandwagon … and join the fun.
Styling a Band Tee Shirt
When I started looking for a band tee, the first place I went was Target online. Found this Rolling Stones tee in black. An AC/DC tee in charcoal and a Prince tee in white. While I can jam to “Start Me Up”, “Back in Black” and “Raspberry Beret” with the best of them, it would be a vast exaggeration to say I am a groupie of any of those bands. I am the girl who sat on the second row at a Rush concert with a blind date and passed the joint without talking a hit. Just never a big rocker. Never a smoker. So wearing a tee for a band I really don’t adore would feel disingenuous. And a little like false advertising.
On Walmart.com, I found some Def Leppard and Aerosmith, but I also found some Chicago and Journey. Getting warmer! And then, there it was. A John Denver “Rocky Mountain High” tee. Calling my name. Singing out to me.

I put that puppy in my “cart” and checked out in a hurry. Was hoping to get my tee for my trip to Albuquerque for Lucia’s birthday. And it came just in time!
Less About Styling and More About Just Getting Dressed
Can’t really say I ‘styled’ my band tee. I simply put it on over my head! Not much styling done over here lately. More just getting dressed!! But I am finally back to wearing two matching shoes. Woo hoo.
I paired my tee with a pair of cuffed, brushed cotton pants from Loft Outlet in pale yellow. Added a Target boyfriend cardi in a kind of periwinkle blue that was close to the color of the mountain graphic on the shirt.
Charming Charlie yellow stud earrings and $5.00 gray flats from Walmart completed my band tee look.
I felt semi-put together and very comfy for my 4 hour drive to Lauren’s house.
Now to get both feet back into tennis shoes and onto the treadmill! Pronto! I have over-indulged and under-exerted for far too long.
Your Turn
Have you jumped on the band tee bandwagon? If so, which band are you sporting? If not, which band would you like to wear? Are you a John Denver fan? In my book, you just can’t beat his beautiful lyrics and the pictures they paint. “…climbed cathedral mountains, …saw silver clouds below”. “The shadow from the starlight is softer than a lullaby”.
Growing up, we often vacationed at Sky High Ranch in the Rockies, near a little southern Colorado town called Creede. I have many fond memories of those days. This is a photo taken the last time we were all together at Sky High. So thankful I was able to take my daughters there with my parents, sister and brother, one last time.
Wearing my John Denver tee made feel “Rocky Mountain High” again. And rekindled some wonderful memories of days gone by. Thank you, Jamie and John.
Hugs and kisses,
Laura
What a FUN post!! And I am SO glad that you were able to style YOUR kind of t-shirt! Lol! I am a proud owner of Bon Jovi and KISS (thanks to my husband!)! Enjoy your Thursday!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, sweets! I would wear Bon Jovi, too! KISS is a little out of my league. When I was a young mommy living in the Republic of Panama and going to the beach every weekend, I did a little more rocking than any other time in my life…Guns and Roses, Metallica, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi. But John Denver is certainly a life-long fav!

The only ‘band’ t shirt I have is one from a George Benson concert I went to back in the 80s so you can probably guess that there isn’t much ‘style’ left in it!
So great to see you in a pair of proper shoes again, that must feel so good. Have you tried on the over the knee boots yet?
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hey sugar! Break out that George Benson tee. Let’s see it!!!
I am so glad to be in proper shoes. My tootsie is a bit swollen today after walking close to four miles yesterday but I am happy to be active again. I haven’t tried my boots. Thank you for asking. I am so chubby that I am scared to try on the boots with any of my skinny jeans. Back on Weight Watchers again. Hope to try the boots in a couple of weeks. XO
Gail
Loved your post and your integrity in only wearing the tee of an artist you cared about. I had a tee from David Bowie’s Serious Moonlight Tour in the early 80s. Lost it a long time ago. I finally bought another Bowie tee about a year ago.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, Gail, style your tee and let me see. That rhymes!
Thank you for that sweet comment about my integrity. I don’t know if it is integrity or what, but I feel very unauthentic when I support or share something I don’t believe in myself. Your words are tucked away in my heart. Thank you!

Such a fun tee! I used to live in Colorado Springs when I was a kid and one of my favorite songs to sing with my sisters was “Take Me Home Country Roads.” And “If I had a Hammer.” We weren’t allowed to listen to secular music but we had to sing those for music class, so my mom let it slide (it was for a grade, ya know?). Anyway, I didn’t grow up wearing band tees but when my mom left us alone or with my dad (before they divorced), we’d listen to all kinds of music — so, yep, I’m a Prince fan. But I was scared to death of any and all heavy metal groups.
And YAY for matching shoes!!!!!!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, If I Had a Hammer!! Haven’t thought of that song in years. I think we sang it in Boston in music when I was a child. I think we had a similar, sort of sheltered childhood. Although, I think your upbringing was much more faith-based than mine. I loved Prince…Purple Rain, Raspberry Beret, Pink Corvette and when he would team up with Sheila E. Thought he was so cute! In a totally unclassically handsome, rebellious kind of way. My brother would dance to Prince on our coffee table. My mom got such a kick out of Kevin doing that. And he could lip-sync the heck out of some Prince lyrics.
Never been to Colorado Springs but I know it is lovely. I am thinking you are an Air Force child. Is that right? I have probably asked before but my memory is gone by way of the do-do.
Yay, for matching shoes is right!! OTK boots in my not-so-distant future before it gets too hot.

How fun, Leslie!! I don’t have a band t-shirt, but I have been loving the graphic tees lately!!

Thank you, Jodie. I see so many great graphic tees. Deena at Shoes to Shiraz has a fabulous collection. I forget to wear mine but need to break them out for spring.

You apparently didn’t get the memo that women are age aren’t suppose to wear graphic tees! haha! JK! Like I ever listen to any of those “What not to wear over the age of…” posts. I think you look fabulous! Love your tee!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yikes, I read that memo and threw it in the trash! Right along with the note that says we shouldn’t be wearing jeans! Rubbish, in my opinion. Ha! Glad you agree. Thank you, love.
