Sweet ones, thank you for stopping by to check out my 2021 autumn 2021 bucket list. Some prefer to call them fun lists or activities lists, I guess because ‘bucket list’ carries the connotation of being a list of things to do before you kick the proverbial bucket. But death doesn’t really enter into the reason why I create these lists. Rather, it’s living a fuller life. I create these lists each season because otherwise every weekend looks about the same. We get stuck in a comfortable rut of eating at the same restaurants. Date nights look the same – a late afternoon movie and popcorn supper. We become, to quote Pink Floyd, “comfortably numb.”
Bucket lists are good for you. A few years ago I made a quick video outlining all the reasons why!! But don’t just take my word for it. Check out this post for some of the ways bucket lists can enrich your life. Then before you grab your paper and pencil or laptop to make your own list, allow me to share mine.
Before I reveal my autumn 2021 bucket list, thought, we have unfinished business…taking just a moment to brag on my progress on my summer list.
Final UPDATE 08.2021: MY SUMMER BUCKET LIST
Here’s what I have accomplished this summer. Some of these check marks were earned and reported in earlier posts, here, here, and here. I am feeling proud as punch over all the green check marks I’ve collected this summer.

BODY
- Another new hike – Hueco Tanks or Sitting Bull Falls or maybe we will get to the Tin Mines. This was an activity on my spring list and we did investigate a new hike but not any of the ones I wanted to investigate. So, I am going to try again.
- Skin cancer screening – Have had this on my wellness goals for over a year. It is going to happen this season. Had this done a few weeks ago. And had some skin tags removed and biopsied at the same time. Everything came back all clear.
- Meet and maintain within 2 pounds lifetime Weight Watchers weight – My lifetime weight is 138. I was 139.8 on Saturday. Need to get to 138 and stay there!! Still working on this. Working out better again and tracking my WW points. But haven’t made it back to 138. Boo!! ❌
HEART
- Beach vacation – South Padre Island; we will be vacationing with family and celebrating all the birthdays together. Gimme that big green checkmark, this is done, son!!
- Balloon fest or water park – Would like to do both of these activities. Hoping Brennyn can come in September and go to the Balloon Fest with us. Thinking Lauren and I can let Cia and Cami play hooky and take the girls to the water park one day. Nope. Fail. Hope we can do the water park next year. ❌
- Farmer’s market and food truck rodeo in northeast El Paso – If you live in northeast El Paso, you have probably joined me in bemoaning the fact that we have so few activities in our own backyard. The best restaurants and stores are on the east or west sides of town. When I heard we were getting our own farmer’s market out here, I immediately added it to my summer bucket list. Didn’t happen. Maybe this fall? ❌
MIND
- Write meaningful blog posts – I have been saying that I want to redirect my blog to my original focus. Life after retirement. And writing. Going to force that to happen by putting it on my bucket list. I was invited to guest post for my blogging friend Leeanne at Cresting the Hill that went live on 08.02.2021. You can read it, here. Then wrote this follow up post on my blog. Now to make this a regular occurrence.
- Game night once a month – Over the winter we had several game nights and really enjoyed them. Want to bring them back. And maybe have a game night in South Padre, too.
- Summer twist for reading club – My online reading club has been going for several years now and we are up to almost 100 members. This summer, I want to jazz things up and try something new with the gang. Polled our gang and several are interested in a meet and greet online. So need to make that happen. In the meantime, suggested we all slip a dollar or bookmark into any library book we are returning in the next few weeks. Going to go ahead and give myself a check mark here.
SPIRIT
- Write one Thankful Thursday post a month – Want to return to joining my friend Rebecca at Knit By God’s Hand for this series. Rebecca Jo has asked me to help cohost this series and I’ve been honored to oblige. Find my most recent Thankful Thursday post, here.
- Start new prayer journal – Bumped from spring. Going to start using the Prayer Journal for Women: 52 Week Scripture, Devotional & Guided Prayer Journal.
- Photo scavenger hunt for summer – Blogging friends Mary-Jo, Ruth and Deb all participate in the summer photo scavenger hunt. I am going to join them. Taking photographs is one way to become more aware in the beauty in the world. You can find the prompts, here. I have started participated in 2 scavenger hunt updates; here’s the latest one. The final update will be 10.01.2021, so you still have time to join us!!
STYLE
- Share a beach style post – Don’t worry, this won’t be me in a bikini!! But want to share some of the looks I pack for our summer vacation. This didn’t happen exactly like I planned. Had hoped to get some photos of my new summer sundress when we went to eat but things were just too crazy. Bought matching Old Navy tees for everyone, too, thinking we could do a family photo but that wasn’t to be either. Here’s what I wore on the plane, though. Does that count? I think I deserve a check mark for effort. Like my c’est la sea sweatshirt? You can pick up one here, on sale!!
- Purge summer clothes not worn in 2 years – Now that I am volunteering some at the Clothes Closet, I want to donate those warm weather clothes I haven’t worn in a long time. I have purged but I need to get back in there to gather things I haven’t worn this summer or last. Made my first Poshmark sale yesterday. Woo hoo!!
- Update my pajama game – Poor PC. He will appreciate this one. I really need to do better in the pj department. Time to toss the raggedy pajamas and gowns and replace them with something new. Did some tossing and took advantage of the recent Soma sales (thank you, Kellyann) to purchase these Cool Nights banded bottom pajama set. Haven’t worn them yet as we are still experiencing summer but looking forward to wearing them. Hoping the banding will help keep the legs in place at my ankles while I sleep. This long-sleeve pajama set in a pretty paisley print is on my wish list.
TASTE BUDS
- Try new treat – Maybe Teapioca boba tea or Aurora rolling ice cream or Nonotelo gelato. Are any of these nummy things familiar to you?
- Find a new breakfast restaurant – No bright ideas for this activity yet. But I am tired of iHop. Yay, we did it!! We tried a new breakfast restaurant. And LOVED it. Good food, excellent service, quaint ambience. A little pricier than we would normally pay for breakfast but hey, I had a her-mosa!! The restaurant is Mamacita’s Downtown. I ordered the salmon and Gruyere grilled cheese and my Prince had the churro waffles, then we shared.

- Try 3 new recipes – Using my air fryer, follow my Pinterest board Air Fryer Foodie and/or using my bread machine, follow my Pinterest board Baking Bread. I have these fancy appliances and need to use them. Did bake a pretty scrumptious loaf of Hawaiian bread lately in the bread machine. Have used my air fryer for French fries, tater tots, butterfly shrimp, etc. Made these Skinnytaste shrimp egg rolls and fried them in my air fryer. Yum. Have all the ingredients to make this air fryer cajun shrimp. So…
By my count that’s 15 pretty green s and 3 ugly red ❌s. I’ll take it!! Not a bit bad. And with that, summer 2021 is a wrap. On to the main event…
My Autumn 2021 Bucket List
My daughter Brennyn and granddaughter Cady will be visiting the second week of October so I have included some of our plans for their visit in my bucket list activities. Kept a few things purposely vague…ha!! That will allow me a little wiggle room. If Covid has taught us anything, it is to be flexible in our planning. Am I right?
Using the same 6 categories that I have used for past bucket lists. That way I can put together activities and experiences for all of me, the inside and the out. The physical and the spiritual. Kind of cool how our weather turned off downright fall-ish today. Coincidence? I think not!! It is the first day of fall after all.
BODY
- Fall hike or moonlight walk: we have wanted to take the tin mine hike for several years, would love to do that, or enjoy a moonlight walk on a walking path in the city.
- Reach lifetime Weight Watchers weight of 138: really need to make this happen before hibernation weather sets in.
- Facial and develop skin care routine: need a facial as summer ends and to find and stick to a skin care routine.
HEART
- New to us activity: iFly, Top Golf, ride the trolley, tour downtown via scooters: would love to do any or all of these on a date night.
- Weekend getaway with PC: We need this so badly. I don’t know where we will go, maybe even just downtown El Paso, but we need a getaway, just the 2 of us.
- Family weekend with Brennyn: hoping to do the pumpkin patch, horseback riding, visit Ruidoso, NM and White Sands for photos.
MIND
- Use Adventures in Writing to do at least 3 creative writing exercises: want to get back to creative writing and this book has such great prompts.
- Learn to do Instagram Reels or videos and do at least one, continue refocusing blog: my sweet friend Danielle at sent me this link to “Beginners Guide to Instagram Reels – How to Make Reels on IG” when I mentioned to her that I wanted to learn more about Instagram. Now to use that info!! Also hope to continue refocusing my blog on life after retirement.
- Conduct meet and greet with book club, donate to LFL: the members has asked for an interactive experience, so I need to make that happen. Also want to encourage them and YOU to donate to your local Little Free Library. November is Children’s Book Month.
SPIRIT
- Donate blankets or warm clothes: Our church collects items but might also look for specific individuals who need help.
- Pumpkin craft activity with The Maker Beehive or Beaded Skull Mosaic with Terri Wright or other fall craft: I have wanted to do another mosaic since I finished my big project during the #100DayProject and my sister and I love doing mixed media projects with Jennifer Chamberlin at The Maker Beehive.
- Continue to use 365 Days of Creativity and the Krafty Planner’s journal prompts and Bible journal during my quiet time: my quiet time has kind of morphed or evolved lately. Need to write about that. Both of these tools have been a part of my new morning routine.
STYLE
- Try a fall fashion trend, style and share: probably one of the trends shared in the fall 2021 capsule wardrobe with Alison Lumbatis. You can register with my affiliate link and check out the trends, too.
- Fall mani/pedi, buy a new fall lipstick: not sure if this will be a professional mani/pedi or a do-it-myself job. But will find a great fall polish and lipstick to match.
- Have my colors done: a color master class is available through Get Your Pretty On, here. Have never had my colors done. Maybe it’s time?
TASTE BUDS
- Bake seasonal recipe: thinking a fruit cobbler or pie, some kind of bread, a soup or chili. Makes me hungry and happy thinking about it.
- Burrito run: we have had a lot of fun with our tamale run last winter, our taco run this spring and know that the burrito run will be equally fun and delicious.
- Wine tasting: have missed the wine fests we usually hit this time of year…thanks, Covid. And we are about out of wine!! Horrors!! Time to sample some new wine and stock up the wine rack.
Doesn’t that look like a pretty complete list of fun activities? Can’t wait to get started enjoying fall with my loved ones.
Your Turn
What are activities and hobbies are you hoping to enjoy this season? Inspire me with your list!! Link up your bucket or activity list post or leave me a comment below. Always looking for new adventures to try.
Thank you stopping by today. Happy fall, one and all!!

How exciting that you’re selling on Poshmark too Leslie. I keep thinking I should do that, but I never get around to it. We are excited because the farmer markets are starting up again soon. We always love going to those.
XOXO

Thank you, Jodie. Not having much luck on Poshmark so wound up taking my stuff back to the consignment shop. But they are overrun with clothes right now. Ugh. Anything that I am iffy about parting with right now is just going to stay in the closet awhile longer.
Anxious to hit up the farmer’s market, too. Maybe this weekend. But PC doesn’t share my enthusiasm!!
You did so well – I think that was a pretty successful end to the summer’s list!
Love your challenges for autumn, will be interesting to see how they get ticked off as the months go by.
I used to have a OPI gel manicure regularly before covid shut down the nail salon I used, and I’ve never got back in the routine. But my friend who lives in Florida sent me some imPress stick on fake nails at Christmas and they are amazing! So easy to use (no glue) they stay on for at least a week and look great. Also much cheaper than a manicure 🙂
Will be interesting to see what your colour test shows, I’ve never had it done but am very tempted.
I hope you and PC can get away, it’s amazing how nice it is to be out of your own house and just be away with no chores to be done. We are going to Boston in November and I can hardly wait!
I am so excited for you to see your girls and know you will have a great time! Just think, before you know it you’ll have a grandson to spoil and love on!
xo,
Kellyann
What a great Fall bucket list! I hope you can do all the things. I have a massage on mine, because I could definitely use one sometime soon. LOL I’ve never done Top Golf, but I have a gift card that I won as part of an auction through my work, so that’s something that I’ll have to check out as well. 🙂

That’s a great list! I might do my own version of this. You are very inspiring, my friend! I have some great suggestions for at home mani/pedis, if that is the route you go…when I do my own, I use a good base coat, an OPI color (my fav!) and Seche Vite as a top fast drying coat. I have some favorite fall colors too- You Don’t Know Jacques, Lincoln Park After Dark, Black Cherry Chutney, Alpaca My Bags…all OPI. I could go on and on! I hope you have a wonderful day!
I love your committment to seasonal lists. I always enjoy reading them and seeing the reflections. I am excited for you to reach your personal health goals. Also, you and PC hopefully will get away to somewhere to spend some quality time together. Also, I want to do some cozy meal cooking.

Thank you!! We really need some time away together…ALONE.
Want to do the soup recipe swap and blog hop with us? Some great gals are joining me. Sharing our recipes
on 10.26. Let me know if you are interested.
First of all, nice work on your summer list, Leslie. You crushed it! As for fall, I agree you’ve got a complete list of fun activities planned. I’ve decided to create my fall bucket list by borrowing from everyone else’s lists. From you, I’m taking fall hike, hopefully in Zion National Park! Happy fall and good luck on your list!
Thank you. I am so excited to see what you put together for your bucket list from everyone else’s. Glad you are going to plan a hike to Zion. Wow, to Zion!! I am hoping to hike the desert near our home. Zion would be super amazing.
This post was so nice to read!!! You actually inspired me to start a Thankfull Thursday series. I also want to start a Bible journal…I have ordered a book for this purpose.
And the thing that made me really laugh…you will not see me in the bikini :)))) I am still laughing!
Thank you so much!! Come do a bucket list. You can call it a fun list, or activity list or whatever you like. But making one can help you make the most of your season!! We stopped going out to McDonald’s and have discovered there ARE other restaurants in El Paso!! Ha!!
This might be my most favourite list of yours. Especially the Barrito run. How fun! I enjoy the food hopping idea. I’ve done pub hopping, and bar hopping and house party hopping. But this sounds so fun.
Danielle
Ha!! Thank you, friend. We have enjoyed the tamale and taco runs. PC gets into the food-related activities!! I think you guys should try it. Pick up tacos or burritos from a couple of places and have the kids help you decide which ones are best.
Zachary loves iFly and Top Golf! Both would be a lot of fun for you to try. I also love seeing your ideas here!
Thank you, friend. I really, really want to try iFly. PC is not nearly as enthusiastic, though!!
Look at all those check marks! Great job on your summer bucket list. Your fall list sounds great too! My husband and I have a little weekend trip planned but we’ll see if that actually happens or not.
Thank you, doll!! Feeling kind of proud of myself. Hope you guys have the bestest weekend together.
Enjoyed reading your fall list. Don’t think I’ve ever had a ‘bucket list’ – but always have ‘to do lists’. I may try your idea and create one and break it down into categories. We’ll see if I can make that happen.
Iris
Thank you!! Come do a bucket list with me. You can start now and update with us on 10.21.
First, I love that you quoted Pink Floyd! LOL. I know what you mean about going to similar places, and this weekend was an example of how fun it can be to do to new places. We went to Kings Mountain, SC and did some hiking, picnic, and the pups enjoyed it too! Went to a Fall festival Sat. So I just need to plan ahead. Great job on your summer bucket list! Love reading your list! I know what you mean about a getaway, I told my hubby we ought to go to Asheville for the day! A change of atmosphere helps! Top Golf was new to me too, but I went with my sis, niece and mom and it was so much fun! Highly recommend! IM all on board with you for the wine tasting! I have Gastritis now, so I cant enjoy wine with dinner, but allow 2 glasses on the weekend! Go for it!
Happy Monday Leslie!

Oh, I would love to go to Asheville. Would like to visit Biltmore. My mama always wanted to go there and never made it. I hear such great things about Top Golf. Going to grab PC and make that happen. Glad you guys enjoyed Kings Mountain and the fall festival.
Love your list Leslie! You’ve got some great things on there.
Missed the link but here’s my post https://troyerslovinglife.blogspot.com/2021/09/autumn-intentionality-list.html
Thank you for joining me!! Heading over to visit you now.
You’ve totally inspired me to do a fall bucket list!!! I love your ideas! And I love how you’ve broken them down by category! I was just thinking about trying a new fall trend and that is one of the CLOGS! Can you believe they are back in style?? Should have kept my old ones, lol!
Hope you have put together a fall bucket list and will link up with us when we share our update on 11.21.2021.
You have been busy! Well done you! #TrafficJamWeekend
Thank you!!
You have some nice things on your list – achievable. I really ought to do one because I’ve got into a Groundhog Day type existence. Fruit cobbler sounds delicious, and look forward to seeing your first Reel!
You did such a great job with your fall bucket list! And I love the items with your fall list. You do a nice job of thinking of well-rounded activities!
I’m worried my comment didn’t go through! You did such a great job getting your summer bucket list done! I love how well rounded your fall bucket list items are. There are so many fun activities!
That sounds fun to have a visit with your daughter Brennyn and granddaughter Cady! I feel like there are so many things to do with younger kids in the fall! Ohh, you need to do Top Golf! We love it! We only go a couple times a year, but the food is so good and it is a lot of fun. Thank you for sharing the IG Reels tutorial! I may look at that today. I may try to make a Reel this month! We’ll see if it actually happens. Ha, ha! Reels kinda scare me.

Glad I am not the only one who feels a little scared by Reels!! But we can do it!!
