Hey Dolls!
On Thursday of last week I was tagged by one of my Style Me Blogger buddies, Lana at Two Teens and Their Mama, to answer some questions about ME. As I just happen to be one of the world’s renowned experts on ME, I have accepted the challenge. If need be, I can quickly call in some of the other leading authorities on ME to assist in answering anything that I can’t. PC, my daughters Brennyn and Lauren, brother Kevin, sister Valerie, mom Nira and BFF Sharon are all on standby.
But I will give it a go myself, first.
What are four names people call me other than my real name?
- Lil babies (PC)
- Mom or momma (Bren and Buff)
- Mimi (Cady Coo)
- Mrs. C. for Mrs. Charming (kids at school)
What are four jobs I have had?
- Waitress, waitress, waitress: at the end of high school, during college, after college, much to my dismay, and as a single mom
- Host of televised children’s reading program: Come Read with Me
- Public school librarian: for the El Paso Independent School District
- Librarian at a public library: while living in Copperas Cove, Texas
What are four movies I have watched or would watch over again?
- Saving Private Ryan (which I sometimes call Saving Private Benjamin for some reason): WW II with Tom Hanks
- When Harry Met Sally: Quirky love story from the ’80s with Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal
- Enchanted: Fairy tale, of course, with Amy Adams as Princess Giselle (a part for which I could play the understudy) and Patrick Dempsey as her PC in disguise
- Schindler’s List, Life is Beautiful, Sarah’s Key, The Book Thief, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, and The Reader: (Obviously I cannot count, but who’s counting anyway?) all share a central theme – The Holocaust
What are four books I would recommend? (Really, just four? Not four fiction, four nonfiction, four biographies, four children’s fiction and four picture books?)
- The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom: recommended to me by my mom and dad and likewise, the movie should be on the list above and the movies in bullet four above should be on the book list – see how I did that? More than one way to skin a cat.
- Jesus Calling by Sarah Young: daily devotional from my BFF Sharon
- Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, Wonder by RJ Palacio, The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate, There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom by Louis Sachar, The Giver by Lois Lowry, Number the Stars by Lois Lowry, Fire Girl by Tony Abbott: all children’s chapter books about an underdog or child dealing with a serious problem
- The Mightiest Heart by Lynn Cullen, The Rough Face Girl by Rafe Martin: kind of obscure folktales with lovely morals, as well as many other versions of the traditional fairy tales
Where are four five (kinda) places I have lived?
- Buffalo, New York: born there in a snow storm on Easter morning
- Brookline, Massachusetts: lived there during elementary school
- Bartlett, Tennessee: sixth grade through senior year of high school; Knoxville, Tennessee for college
- Republic of Panama: Atlantic and Pacific sides of the Canal Zone
- Copperas Cove and El Paso, Texas
Where are four places I have been?
- North America: approximately 40 of the 50 United States and quite a bit of Canada, how’s that for cheating?
- Nice in the French Riviera
- Cancun, Mexico
- Creede, Colorado
What are four places I would rather be right now? (Can you detect a common theme?)
- Playa Mujeres: all inclusive resort in Cancun, either on the beach or floating along the lazy river
- Lauren’s apartment pool: Houston, Texas
- Brennyn’s community pool: Ft. Worth, Texas
- Home: there’s no place like it, any day of the week and it’s Where the Heart Is (another great book)
What four things do I refuse to eat? (There is nothing I refuse to eat; can I use this space to list four more books?)
- Not crazy about beets: but beet chips as served at The Mustard Seed Cafe are delicious
- Really don’t like tomatoes, especially mushy sliced ones but will eat them diced on Mexican food
- Furry friends like bunny, lamb, deer, dog and cat
- Black licorice or root beer lollipops
What four foods do I like best?
- Chocolate: preferably milk, but can tolerate dark and white, if need be
- Seafood: ha!, I am getting good at skirting this four item restriction: lobster, shrimp, scallops, clams, oysters to name a few
- Homemade bread: made with our family’s 100+ year-old yeast
- Soup: all kinds but especially cream of this or cream of that
What TV shows do I watch regularly?
- The Bachelor and/or The Bachelorette
- Dancing with the Stars: which I call Dancing with the Wolfs (I do know it should be wolves – or actually stars but I like the sound of wolfs)
- Homeland, Mad Men, House of Cards: we are currently watching all of these series
- The Voice: sometimes
What four things am I looking forward to this year?
- Texas Library Association annual conference in Austin next week: I know, I know, I am not a librarian any more but my sister and I always go to this together. She went with me before she became a librarian and now I am going with her even though I am no longer a librarian.
- Summer vacation to Galveston and New Braunfels with PC, Brennyn, Corey, Cady, Lauren, Francisco, Valerie, Roby, Trey, Kevin, Shelby and Jacob (wish my mom and Metra could come, too)
- Opening an Etsy store to sell library and reading lesson plans online
- Hopefully, seeing my BFF Sharon and her grandbabies and maybe having her meet Cady
What four things do I say the most?
- “I love you.”
- “Everything happens for a reason.”
- “No one tries their best any more!” in combination with “What’s this world coming to, no one does his job!”
- “Ki-ens” = kittens: when I get home from work, get ready to go to bed, get up in the morning, I call out to my (feline) girls by saying “Ki-ens, ki-ens” and Purrsnickitty and Purrsimmony come running
So enjoyed doing this! Thank you, Lana for tagging me. And now I tag three blogger buddies to take a turn at I Mustache You Some Questions. Casey at A Little Bit of Cheer, Michelle at Sprinkled Just Right and Lauren at Curls and Cardigans consider yourselves tagged.
On your mark, get set, go!
Hugs and kisses,
Sharon
You are also multitalented, funny, caring, and beautiful inside and out! I hope I see you this summer too!!! XO
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, sweets. I am getting so (much more) scatter-brained that I don’t even remember what I wrote. Hope Miss Millie comes home tomorrow. XO
Deena
the Ten People/ I forgot all about that one, I used it a lot when teaching World Religions. Also- 100 year old yeast???!!! What’s that??
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Deena,
I think my yeast might be a possible blog post theme. It is yeast my great grandmother used and we have kept it going all these years. I have it in a jar in the refrigerator. Will share pics!
You taught world religions? Wow! What a course that must be! Was it in college? You are a Jill of all Trades.
Lana
Oh Leslie, I just knew that your answers would be witty and wonderful, just like you! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this – I really enjoyed learning even more about you. I really hope we get to meet in person someday – I feel like it’s a necessity at this point :)! I laughed about the soup – I always say that I love “cream of anything” soup.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Isn’t soup THE BEST, Lana? We have a restaurant Souper Salad which offers two of my favorite things. I could eat there easily once a week and Jason’t Deli, too. Mmmmm! Thank you for your sweet comments about my answers to the mustache questions. I love things like that. I hope we get to meet someday, too, because I think I am your long-lost older sister! XO
Sarah @ Foxy's Domestic Side
haha, that last picture is too funny! Loved getting to know you through these questions. The boy in the striped Pajamas, my husband and I watched that not knowing what it was about…at all. Talk about cry fest. But it was good. Have you seen the new Cinderella movie yet? I’m dying to go see it, I hear it’s really good.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Sarah, isn’t The Boy in the Striped Pajamas heart-breaking? I used to show it to my fifth graders when we did a mini research project on Anne Frank and Sadako Sasaki and World War II. They would be spell-bound watching it.
I did see the new Cinderella and want to do a blog post review. In fact, I WILL do one this weekend. Please come back to read it! Hugs!
Marg
Leslie, you are too cute, too talented and too wonderful! I am blessed to call you friend. Also, now we know what NOT
to get you for your birthday!! So much for that Black Liqorice of the Month Club idea!! Love you!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
You can transfer my membership to the Licorice of the Month Club to Paul, or we can share…I will eat the red licorice and he can have the black!!
Marg, you are just so supportive and kind. I don’t know how cute, talented or wonderful I am…probably crazier than anything but I glad we are friends. Love you big fast!
Morgan Topp
I love that you enjoy The Bachelor and The Bachelorette! When the new season starts next month, we will have to ‘chat’ about the picks. I also wanted to recommend “Downton Abbey” as a show to watch. I thought it wasn’t for me, but then I started to watch it and that’s it! I watched all 4 seasons in about 2 months. It’s my obsession now. 🙂 Enjoy your weekend! (almost here).
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Morgan, you have to be my niece or youngest daughter or something…we have a lot of things in common!!! I have heard such good things about Downton Abbey. In fact, my former library assistant Lorena, who also commented on this post, loves that show. She is also another long lost daughter of mine, or niece, or much younger sister. We are very close. With a recommendation from both of you, I promise to try it.
Can’t wait til the new season of Bach. Will definitely have to chat about that. And I want to meet Hudson! Soon…
Michelle
Thanks SOOOO much for thinking of me! I loved getting to “know” more about you from these questions. I see you like to read! Definitely on my list of things I want to make more time for. T.V. that’s my thing 😉 House of Cards, AH-MAZING!!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I am trying to read a book a month. Got off to a slow start this month, Michelle, but I hope to catch up. Setting that goal has pushed me to make time everyday for at least a page or two. So glad you enjoyed reading my answers. Can’t wait to read yours!
Shaunacey
Did I know you were a Bachelor fan?!
Love the pics as always and loved learning more about you!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
So glad to know YOU are a Bach fan, Shaunacey! Our fellow fashionista Mary Jensen is all about the Bachelor, too. We need to chat over the upcoming season. XO
Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom
The Five People You Meet In Heaven sounds like a good read that I need to add to my list. I love a lot of the same movies as you! It is so fun reading more about you! I need to do a post like this somex.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, please, please read The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Carrie. It is a quick read and then follow it up with the movie, which is well done and almost as good as the book. May I challenge you to do answer these questions on your blog? Would love to learn more about you. I think we have a lot in common, except I could be your mom! XO Thank you for coming by.
Lauren Buendia
Mom – I love this post…I love all of your posts for that matter! They just sound so much like YOU. I’m loving that you wrote “Ki-ens”. That’s the ONLY way to say that word in our family, huh? It’s so funny that you wrote “beets” as one of the 4 foods you hate. I guess that’s why we never had them! Thank you for sparing us that. I love you! Can’t wait to see you!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
My pleasure to have spared you from beet-eating, Lauren. And tomatoes. And watermelon and cantaloupe (which I couldn’t even spell right). Can’t wait to see my big boy ki-en Doughnuts. Plural. Love you.XO
