Howdy pardners, thank you for joining me for the kick off of a brand new series from Texas with Love 01.2021. Hosted by my friend and fellow Texan Carrie at A Stylish Fit and lil ole me on the last Tuesday of each month. While neither of us are native Texans, we both got here as soon as we could. The theme of this month’s link up is All About YOU. We are inviting you to (re)introduce yourself to your readers and link up that post with us.
To be honest, I had planned to dust off my About Me page this month. Had even penciled it onto my new planner. So this prompt was perfectly timed for me. Was embarrassed to realize how long it had been since I had updated it. Happy to report that it has been brought current. Camila’s birth has been added and I adjusted everything to reflect all of the birthdays I’ve had since I originally wrote my About Me page. Please check it out, here.
For this inaugural post of From Texas with Love, we are hoping you will tell us about YOU!
Questions All About YOU
Here’s what we want to know. Things like:
- Where are you from?
- How long have you lived there?
- Who’s in your family?
- What do you love about where you live?
- Would you prefer to live somewhere else? If so, where?
- What’s something that makes YOU you-nique
Answers About Me
And to get you started, I’ll go first…here are my answers to the questions above.
Where am I from?
- I was born in Buffalo, New York. When I was 4 years old, my family moved to Boston. At the end of 5th grade we moved to Memphis. I lived in Tennessee until 1981, when I married my first frog and moved to the Republic of Panama where he was stationed in the Army. But I wouldn’t undo that marriage because it gave me my 2 very precious daughters.
- In 1984, we moved to Ft. Hood, Texas for a very brief stint before my then-husband re-enlisted for another 3-year tour in Panama. Finally, in 1988, I made it back to Texas. El Paso, this time. And have been here ever since.
- This photo was taken on the day we left Panama for the last time. Not sure why I thought it was a good idea for the 3 of us to wear dresses on the long flight back to the states. Maybe because I was so darn excited to be moving out of Panama and heading to Texas!!
How long have I lived here?
- I moved to El Paso in the fall of 1988, so I have been here – oh, no, math. Ummmm, 33 years. Oh my gosh! That is a long time.
Who’s in my family?
- In my house, my home, there’s just my Prince C. and our kitties Purrsimmony and Purrsnickitty. And the stray kitty we feed every day, Fluff.
- But my family would also include my daughter Brennyn, her husband Mustafa and their daughter Cadence.
- And my daughter Lauren, her husband Francisco and their daughters Lucia and Camila.
What do I love about El Paso?
- From the day we drove into town in 1988, I fell in love with the Franklin Mountains.
They were so majestic. I loved the desert vegetation (cactus) after having lived in a rainforest for so long. The climate is pretty terrific, too. I mean, we’ve had 70*F January days, snow in October and March, and I’ve sunbathed in February and September. But best of all, the people make the city of El Paso a wonderful place to call home.
Would I prefer to live somewhere else?
- Live somewhere else – no. But I could get behind having a cabin in the mountains and a cottage on the beach.
What’s something that makes me you-nique?
- The love of my family. My life experiences which include some really crazy things. And a few things I mentioned on my About Me page. Hope you will check it out, here.
Your Turn
So, have YOU ever been to Texas? If so, tell me a little about your visit. Then it’s your turn to share your answers to these questions. Either in a blog post of your own or in a comment below. Be sure to mark your calendars for the next installment of from Texas with Love, coming to you on the last Tuesday of February, 02.23.2021.
Thank you for visiting today, sweet friends. Hoping your week is off to a healthy start.
Hugs and kisses,
Joanne
I literally live 15- 20 minutes away from the hospital where I was born (and it’s where I gave birth to all 3 of my boys).I have never lived anywhere else than in this two town region… even when I was in college I commuted each day! I often wish I lived anywhere with a warm climate whenever winter rolls around but we stay for the fall foliage, the brilliant sunny days on the lake in the summer, and because it is where just about ALL our friends and family live. I could honestly walk to visit 4 different sets of family in the summer.

You live in such a GORGEOUS place, I can see why you have stayed.
Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom
I have flown into Dallas, Texas for our Hawaii flight, but I’ve never been there to visit. I’d love to see Magnolia, though!! 🙂 I love the names of your cats. You have the most beautiful family, your girls are GORG and make gorg babies!! 🙂

Oh yeah, been to Texas many times. #2 son took a job there right after college and that was it. He married a Texan, he has Texas kids and he’s become a Texan. So, many trips to see kids and grandkids. Went for many school/sports activities. That’s a long ways to see a kids soccer game 🙂
I’ll just stay in Alabama though thank you!

Oh, my, traveling from Alabama to Texas for a soccer game shows a lot of devotion!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Aww, thank you, doll!! I think my babies are gorgeous, too. But I do wear ‘rose-colored’ glasses!!

The only couple of times we’ve been to Texas was for dental conventions. We were in San Antonio and loved it!! I still would love to get to Austin, but visiting you is now on the list.
XOXO

How lovely to find out a little bit more about you. You’ve certainly travelled around – I still live less than 10 miles from where I was born!
You are certainly blessed with a wonderful family 🙂
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yes, I have moved more than I ever cared to. Paul has moved 18 times and I have moved 15-16. Too much. I am here to stay!!
Natasha
Oh, I loved learning more about you. I also love your “All About Me” page. I never knew you were a school librarian!!!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you!! Yes, being a librarian was such a blessing to me. I miss the kids and the books.
Dara
I’ve been to Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Galveston! Fun to learn more about the places you’ve lived today!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Woo hoo!! You are practically a Texan. Love Galveston. I remember your trip there!
Karen
My brother lives in College Station. My husband & I were both born & raised in Western North Carolina near Murphy. We have 1 daughter & are expecting our 8th grandchild. We moved to Iowa in 2006. I was able to transfer though my job, so we went on a new adventure. We moved to South Dakota just under 5 years ago. Kevin was chasing his dream job. I was able to transfer though my job once again. We set off on another new adventure. Unfortunately Kevin did not get his dream job after several attempts though has an even better job now working with the school system. We’ve been enjoying exploring the area on our side by side & going on picnics every chance we can get. I’m looking forward to reading more of your From Texas with Love.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Karen! Love learning more about you. I had a long distance boyfriend years ago in Wildrose, ND and I loved the area, and even entertained the idea of moving to North Dakota. But we parted ways, and I am glad I remained in Texas where I met my Prince Charming!!
Danielle
So fun! I have never been to Texas. But one day I plan on traveling to visit you!
SO fun! I learned some new things about you today!
Thanks for sharing.
Danielle
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Would LOVE LOVE LOVE for you to come visit some day!!

I’m so interested about your time in Panama. I know you’ve mentioned it before. Did you live on a base? How did you like it? It was fun learning more about your life!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I lived on and off base in Panama. And on the Atlantic and Pacific sides of the canal. I loved being near the beach, practically ON the beach. But the last tour we were there, the sentiment toward Americans was very hostile and it was scary.

Hi Leslie – lovely to learn some more about you and to see your extended family – husband, kids and grandkids. I’ve never been to the US, but I’ve seen enough movies set in Texas to give me a bit of an idea of where you are and what it looks like. Thanks for sharing a bit more about your life – I always find it interesting when I get little insights into other bloggers and their worlds. x
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Leanne. I enjoy seeing where bloggers live and reading about their day-to-day and families and activities, too. Would love to visit Australia someday. I know, like Texas, it has everything…beaches, prairies, desert, beautiful views.
Danielle
I loved learning more about you! I have never been to Texas, but would love to visit one day.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Oh, Texas, is the whole nut roll. Beaches, mountains, prairie, big and little cities. Hope you can visit someday.
Carrie
Leslie, it’s funny but we have been in Texas about the same amount of time. Your girls and grandbabies are gorgeous! Such a great read!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, friend. Enjoyed doing this with you.
Jill
You have lived in so many places! I’ve been to Houston – we had a cousin who lived there and had his wedding there and Dallas for work. The Franklin mountains look beautiful!
Jill – Doused in Pink
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Jill. The Franklins are the southern most peaks of the Rockies. I love our mountains!
Bri
Leslie, I so enjoyed this post and getting to know you better! You have a beautiful family, beautiful girls and beautiful granddaughters! I have never been to TX. My husband has traveled there often for work, so maybe someday when the kids are older I can make that trip with him. I would love to see what it’s like there. That picture you got of the Franklin Mountains is gorgeous!
I will have to remember this link up and join in next month.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you, Bri. I love Texas and have been here so long it is now home.
