Sweet stylistas, so glad you stopped by. Today is the fourth installment of The Blended Bloggers’ “Style Perspectives” series and we are following the good lead of our own Abbie who blogs at Grumbling Grace as she styles a pattern blouse with neutrals.
Before I give you my interpretation of Abbie’s look, I need to explain why my outfit isn’t exactly en pointe. My youngest daughter Lauren was due to deliver her first baby on March 18, so for a couple of weeks, I have had my suitcase packed at the ready for that much anticipated phone call or text message to jump on a plane for Houston.
Uncharacteristically, I somehow had the presence of mind to look ahead for what we would be styling that week. And you can do that, too, using this handy-dandy graphic Deena created for our series.
I was so relieved that Abbie was styling a pattern blouse and neutrals – not a bikini nor an evening gown – something I could easily stick in my suitcase, just in case.
Well, that call came in the form of a text (not really a call at all – that rhymes) on Wednesday morning when I woke up. Lauren had seen her OB on Tuesday and after an in-office procedure, was cramping the rest of that day and into the next morning.
Yes, that really says mucus plug.
I was so thankful I had packed my suitcase already because I was so excited, so nervous I just ran around in circles while on phone with Southwest Airlines for awhile before I could gather my thoughts.
By 9:45 I was on a plane for Houston and by 2:30, I was at Lauren and Francisco’s apartment looking forward to meeting my granddaughter.
That’s when everything kind of stalled for about two days. Please come back to read more about that in a post later this week. But on the day that Lucia Carolina finally came into this world, I wore my interpretation of Abbie’s prompt: pattern blouse with neutrals.
And the colors are similar to those Lauren is using in Lucia’s nursery. (No accident on my part!)
My daughter Brennyn took some pictures as I posed among the posies and snapdragons at Lauren’s apartment complex.
My print blouse is a Mudd chiffon shawl from Kohl’s worn over an Old Navy tee. My neutrals are Loft blush denim. Charming Charlie, turquoise, not to be confused with turquoise, earrings and metallic flats from Target.
I love the feminine floatiness of a chiffon shawl except when it is the only wrap I packed and it is unseasonably cool in Houston.
Can be used interchangeably as a matador’s cape, “Ole, toro, toro!!”
Trying to make myself small and blossom-like so I blend into the beautiful blooms behind me.
Love taking my shawls on trips because they are so easy to pack, require no ironing and are usually the perfect layer for spring and summer.
So, tag…you’re it…your turn to share how you would style a pattern blouse with neutrals. Please click on the InLinkz button to post your outfit or snap a pic to upload to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter or all three, using #tbbstyle to link-up.
As you might recall, we all styled white pants following the prompt given by Lisa from Daily Style Finds. Here’s a collage of all of our interpretations.
The headless first gal is yours truly. I am about three feet taller than the other gals so my head didn’t fit. Which also explains why my pants are a tad bit short.
Won’t you play dress-up with me? Send me a pic of your fav pattern blouse with neutrals look! Or upload to your favorite social media. Just be sure to join in the fun! And start planning how you will style bright pants. That prompt might mean a shopping trip for me.
Hugs and kisses,
Sheila @ Sheila's Potpourri

Thank you, Sheila. I really like wearing these kimonos or shawls. They cover my grandma parts so easily and yet keep me from looking frumpy.

My family has a special love for snapdragons. We always make them “talk” to say ‘I love you’ and my sister’s three year old son who died with cancer, loved to make snapdragons talk. Wish I could grow them in El Paso. This grandma is in pig heaven with twice the granddaughters and twice the daughters. You will love being a grandma when the time comes…many moons from now.
Deena
3 feet taller than us. Ha! You funny. I love how you tied this post in to your awesome event this week. I also love the palette of colours you picked!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Yeah, somehow the only one of us whose head was in the clouds. But that’s more truth than poetry, right there.

Oh, Lana, you are going to love being a grandmother in the future. It is such a sweet, special relationship and chapter in my life. I just wish I saw more of my Cady, Brennyn’s daughter. I am thankful that Lauren will soon be a few hours’ drive away and I will be able to go up for a quick dose of my daughter and her daughter and be back home the next day.
LISA
CONGRATS! I am so happy that everything turned out okay. On to your post – you are too funny. I would have had to opt out of the bikini week if that was the chosen attire – I don’t know how people are so brave to wear suits and post pictures of them on their blog – wait, I know, they are 20 years old. You look wonderful in your floral top.
