Morning, ladybugs!
Linking up with Anne in Residence for the May edition of her Currently series. Anne’s Currently posts always go live on the first Wednesday of the month. Or, in my case, recent Currently posts have gone live a few days later. April’s Currently post was also fashionably late. Don’t think I hardly turned my computer on while I was in Kentucky. Now that I’m home, I’m scrambling to get back in the saddle again.
Today’s post is all about what we we’re currently: admiring, borrowing, finishing, playing and remembering. And before you go, be sure to enter the Mother’s Day Give-Away for a chance to win You’re welcome!!
Currently, 05.2019
Funny thing about this series. When I first see the prompts each month, I panic thinking I have nothing to write for any of the words. As I start writing, though, I begin to think of the ways the prompts relate to my current life.
Admiring
…my mom. In previous posts, I have shared some of the physical and mental health difficulties we have faced with my 92 year-old mom. Since 2011, she has been committed to psychiatric facilities 3 times for attempted suicide by overdose twice and most recently, suicidal ideations in December.
In the last 6 months, mom has developed several significant physical health issues – faulty heart valve, pulmonary fibrosis, an abdominal abscess, a systemic blood infection, macular degeneration that has her almost blind, a fractured T-10 vertebra, recurring UTIs, and most recently, extensive blood clots in her left leg.
Yet, she keeps getting up every morning, gets dressed, brushes her teeth, her hair and puts on her ‘face’ (lipstick). Mom is loved by everyone she meets – health care providers, her many friends at Lafayette Senior Living Complex and all of the staff there. She calls all of the residents at Lafayette by name and is quick to share a joke with everyone. I admire her resilience so much and miss being with her every time I come home from Kentucky.
Borrowing
…this Instapot carnitas recipe from my sister Valerie. Took less than an hour to prepare and cook. I used a pork loin and cut the recipe in half. Delicious!
Finishing
…the spring cleaning upstairs. Already cleaned our master bedroom, bath, closet and my loft. Next up, Cady and Lucia’s guest bedroom.
Playing
…Bingo. With mom and her friends 3 times during my visit. Didn’t bingo once. But get more pleasure from watching all of my mom’s darling nonagenarian friends win. The gal who calls the numbers makes up different versions of the standard game to keep us on our toes. Sometimes we have to make a cross or an x in order to bingo. Other times, we have to cover all of the squares. This was my board for one of those games and I still couldn’t win!
Remembering
…who’s who in the “Game of Thrones”. Anyone else have trouble remembering everyone’s name, back story and list of sexual partners? Doesn’t help that they all have more than one name or several titles. For example, Khaleesi = Daenerys Targaryen. Or Jon Snow, who we have just learned was born Aegon Targaryen. And Lord Petyr Baelish, nicknamed Littlefinger, whose title was the Master of Coin.
Then that whole last episode was practically filmed in total darkness. I couldn’t tell the wights from White Walkers. Anyone else? And what’s an ‘unsullied’?

Enjoy a peaceful Sunday, friends. Thank you for hanging around, even when I am MIA for awhile.
Hugs and kisses,
Deb
Your mum certainly sums up what resilience is all about!
Can I tell you a secret? I’ve never seen an episode of GOT. There, I’ve said it in public! Not one. I think I am the only person in the world who hasn’t watched it and I think it’s a bit late to try and catch up now!
PS Just started The Gown. Think this is going to be a good one!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
In my opinion, girlfriend, you didn’t miss a whole lot with GoT. Well, you missed a lot of bloodshed, but otherwise nothing much. The ending felt rushed and I was tired of the whole thing anyway. On to bigger and better things like The Bachelorette!!
Dara
Your mom is definitely someone to be admired. I also have never wanted Game of Thrones! I entered the giveaway – I think I’d want an Amazon gift card!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
An Amazon card is always a winning proposition!!

You look a lot like your mother! I’ve never watched Game of Thrones either. Monsieur is addicted to it but I’m not a fantasy reader/watcher. I binge read The Gown yesterday. It was a bingeworthy “lady book” and I even brought out my lace book mark. I’m working on cleaning and organizing (probably won’t finish). It’s Bless the Quilts Day at church. They have a quilting bee to make quilts for the hospice and for women’s shelters. They are always beautiful. Enjoy your Sunday!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Love that you binge read The Gown and used a lace bookmark with it. If you were reading it all in one day, I imagine your bookmark was hardly necessary. Amazing job!!
I love the idea of blessing the quilts. And making quilts for such worthy causes. I have always wanted to have my animals blessed but they were always so wiggly – the many pups and kitties and bunnies we’ve had – that I thought it would drive me crazy trying to take them.

Those pictures of your mom are wonderful. You and your sister look SO much like her. What a blessing to share such a strong family resemblance!
Three of our kids are bigly GOT fans! They all started late and binge watched until they caught up. It’s fun hearing them talk all about it…and usually we’d try to catch up. But they said we wouldn’t make it through the early episodes.
(While they didn’t outright call us “fuddyduddies”…I’m pretty sure that’s what they were getting at.) Harrumph!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I am glad GoT is behind us and we can move on to worthier watching…The Bachelorette tonight, baby!! Life is good.

Your mom is quite the inspiration, Leslie!!

Your mom sounds amazing! I’m sorry she’s had some rough times lately with her physical health, but that’s great she has people around her that love her!

I liked all of the prompts you filled in. It’s a nice way to learn about you. You are so blessed to be able to still enjoy and appreciate your mom! Oops, almost forgot–I came by to see if you will be joining us for this weeks Style Imitating Art. Submissions due by tomorrow to me!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Thank you for checking in on me for SIA. I will try to get my pics taken for the latest challenge. Although the art/painting of Notre Dame was one of my all time favs and I missed it.

Thanks for the update on your mom, sweet friend. I’ve seen your posts on social media and have been keeping your family in my thoughts. It sounds like she’s on the upswing! Have a wonderful Mother’s Day!
