Fashionistas and clothes-wearing friends, welcome!! It is the third Thursday of the month which means it is time for Ageless Style 01.2023. I chose the theme for this month. Wanted to go with a look created around sumptuous fabrics. But when I pitched my idea to the gals, I said scrumptious fabrics…because I talk to little ones most of my days and couldn’t think of the word sumptuous. So, today we are featuring scrumptious, sumptuous fabrics.

Ageless Style 01.2023
I signed up for the Get Your Pretty On Winter 2022 Capsule Wardrobe in November and one of the things on the shopping list was a colored, mid-length satin slip skirt. For this item on the shopping list, I ordered this midi slip skirt from Banana Republic in Beechwood. And I had planned to pair it with this JCrew Factory puff-sleeve sparkle stripe turtleneck (also on the shopping list for the winter capsule). The satiny fabric of the skirt and the little bit of sparkle in the sweater seemed perfect for my scrumptious, sumptuous fabric theme. But when I put them together, I wasn’t crazy about the results. Back to the drawing board.
Plan B
Enter Plan B. I decided to dig around in my closet to see what else I could find. Surprisingly, all through the holidays my scales have been very nice to me. I smiled every time I got dressed this fall and early winter because things slipped on easily and were comfortable to wear!! What a concept. I could get used to that. When I rediscovered my faux-vegan-pleather midi skirt from H&M several years ago deep in my closet, I decided it was just sumptuous enough for today’s prompt. And I was sure it would slip on like butter.
Au contraire mon frère. On Saturday the scales indicated my holiday indulgences have finally caught up with me. My weight was up about 4 pounds. And my normally snug pleather skirt was downright tight. So, I am officially back on Weight Watchers this week. I knew it was too good to be true, but boy I enjoyed being at my lifetime weight for a while.
Where there’s a will there’s a way. And somehow I managed to stuff myself into the H&M midi skirt and even get it zipped. I quickly scrambled into my Loft deep teal bay ruched velvet top (on sale 60% off right now) slipped on my shoes and grabbed PC to snap some pics before I popped the zipper on my skirt. A solid-color velvet top was also on the winter 2022 capsule wardrobe. Alison featured this one but I have trouble wearing sleeveless tops in the winter.
I give you…
Scrumptious, Sumptuous Fabric
PC really liked this top. I think the fit more than the fabric.
I do, too. But will like it a little better after a couple weeks on Weight Watchers. Ditto with the skirt.
Remembering that my daughter told me I am the only woman in the world still wearing panty hose, I opted for these patterned knee-high stockings instead. I didn’t try to sit in this skirt…thought better of that. So not sure if these knee-highs would still work when I am sitting but I can always prop myself against a wall instead.
Gotta love a good skinny mirror. Especially when you are feeling stuffed like a sausage in a casing. I have 2 skinny mirrors. Ha!! The following pictures were snapped in front of one. Instant weight loss!!
And how ’bout our new flooring? I love it. Thank you, PC. Now to replace the raggedy carpeting in the bedrooms with some fresh carpet.
You can see my loft over my left shoulder. It still isn’t completely put together again. I want to go through all of my scrapbook stuff and do a little purging and a lot of organizing. Starting today.
Notice anything different about my hair? Well, yes, I washed it. But something else? I woke up and it had parted itself on the ‘other side’ – the right side. So, I went with it. Made my hair look a little fuller, I think. Happy accident!!
At this point in my ‘photo shoot’, I was turning blue – that same deep teal bay blue in my top – from holding my breath and trying to keep from popping my zipper. I couldn’t wait to get the skirt off. But I am going to put it on again and take some pictures once the number on the scales gets back where it needs to be.

Thank you for joining me and the other ladies in the group. I am off to fold laundry then meeting a friend for a quick lunch before picking up a grocery order mid-afternoon at Walmart. I am subbing for a second-grade tomorrow at Lucia’s school and for her first-grade class on Friday. Glad to have these opportunities to start saving for next Christmas!!
Hugs and kisses,
This looks so good on you, and I would never guess from the pictures that you were feeling stuffed in the outfit. One of the first things I noticed was your tights and noticed them in a good way. What a fun design. I actually wish I wore different types more than I do. I really think you look great but I totally get how sometimes we just don’t feel like ourselves in our own clothes. Great skirt and I’ve also been wanting a midi-length slip skirt, maybe for spring.

As soon as this post was in the bags, I started trying to lose my Xmas weight. But this weekend I have slipped up a little again. Need to try on that midi skirt again and that should be enough to remind me why I need to eating better! Thank you for the sweet comment. I like wearing patterned hose and remember wearing stockings with seams in high school and college.
I really need to follow your lead… I wear dress pants for church on Sundays, and that is the extent of sumptuous for me. Oh, wait! I did purchase a pair of pleather pants pre-Christmas that I only just now remembered! Hmm…maybe for a date night this weekend!
But let’s look at you! You look super in your outfit, and I wouldn’t have thought it looked snug , so you must not have far to go! If it’s any consolation, I still do stockings as well…especially in winter. Mine look more like support hose…but then, again, it’s not like I’ve worn anything but pants since summer. eek.
Your floor is BEAUTIFUL!!! I love the color! We are doing new flooring as well…(lots happening here in February) and if it looks half as nice as yours I will be ecstatic!
Get those pleather pants out, girlfriend!! I need to get mine out, too. I always feel self-conscious in them. But see them styled so many ways by other gals. Let’s do it!!
Thank you. We were very happy with the flooring. We had it done by someone Lowe’s contracts with. The pool repair was to start today. After all this time. Six years. But have not heard from the company who is scheduled to do the work. They gave us an estimate in August and have put us off since. We have not been able to find another company who will even discuss doing the work. Hope your flooring project goes well and we can finally get some help for our pool.
Hi Leslie,
I am so happy that you recommended scrumptious fabrics as our theme to start off the new year.
It is the perfect opportunity to share my peek at some feminine fashions for spring from the November Oscar de la Renta show.
You look terrific in your gorgeous velvet top and midi skirt. So perfect for holiday get-togethers and winter parties.
Rosemary
You always look lovely and this outfit fits the theme perfectly.
Wow Leslie, you look simply scrumptious in your sumptuous fabrics! 🙂 Such a pretty, dressy look!
I love what you came up with. I didn’t have a faux leather skirt till the one I picked up last month and it is really fun! Loving your top too. I love dressing in things that make me feel feminine especially if I have somewhere to go! Well done on the flooring, it looks beautiful! Off to grocery shop now that I am all caught up in the blogging world!

BFF! You look beautiful. Best legs of anyone I know ! Ditch the hose and show them off. 🥰 You still make me laugh with every blog posts. XO
Ha! You are so sweet. And my bestest cheerleader. Love you. Thanks for laughing.
That deep teal blue velvet is gorgeous – sumptuous and scrumptious! Congrats on not popping your zipper, haha (the struggle is real).
Not only the velvet top and fabulous leather skirt but those hose Leslie. I just love the lace design and you look amazing. (not like a sausage at all…you are way too hard on yourself)
XOXO

Oh, I love your outfit. I hear you about those couple of pounds – and where do mine go – stomach always 🙁 I think your stockings (or whatever they are) add a lot to the outfit. Enjoyed the post.
Iris
Thank you, my friend. I am going to try to find some stockings similar to the knee-highs to wear with this skirt. Then I can sit down and not worry about the tops of the knee highs showing. I am working on losing the Christmas pounds but not feeling very enthusiastic about eating better or working out.
What a very pretty skirt Leslie! And you look fabulous in it. I love different textures in one outfit.
Thank you, Nancy. Working on making that skirt more comfy!!
That is such a lovely outfit… even if you did feel like you might be busting out of it at any moment. LOL. Oh and I still wear nylons/panty hose with most any dress or skirt too (which is why I rarely bother to wear them!).
Yay, you!! I am glad I am not the only one still wearing hose. My legs look so much better with them. And I feel more put together. Thank you for the sweet compliment.
Leslie, you look simply amazing in this outfit! Dang, girl! You have fabulous legs! Those socks are wonderful…might I suggest you find a pair of hose just like them? And, teal is definitely your color! Love it!

Yes, great idea. I need a pair of hose that look like these knee highs. Great, great idea. I like patterned hose and tights.
Thank you for the sweet words.
I don’t do pantyhose either but I love tights! I had no idea those were knee highs! They would make gorgeous tights! I love the mix of textures in your outfit. Hope you get to wear it on a date night soon! Honestly-don’t worry about 4 pounds either. My weight fluctuates at least 5 lbs a day!
Thank you. I love tights, too. But in the summer I don’t always feel comfortable bare-legged. So I need something for warm weather dress up days. I am working on taking care of those 4 Christmas pounds but just enjoyed a beer followed by a bowl of ice cream. So not exactly mistreating myself.
Beautiful!
Thank you!
The textures in this outfit look so great on you, even if the skirt was uncomfortable to wear, it looks lovely!
Such a good outfit to meet the theme 🙂
Thank you, sweet friend. I am working on making that skirt feel more comfortable as we speak…except for the bowl of ice cream I just ate!!
Wow – you’re looking lovely in those two items. What a great subject and I laughed at the scrumptious! it’s so good to dress up in scrumptious clothes! Great subject x
LOL scrumptious!! I never had a rich vocabulary but it is practically monosyllabic these days!! Thank you.
What a great subject – and love the idea of scrumptious clothes! We all need to dress up in scrumptious items! You look lovely wearing them!
Thank you. I wear activewear and jeans so often that it was quite refreshing to wear something soft, feminine and pretty.
Leslie, you look fabulous! I love that teal coloured velvet top, it’s gorgeous! And would you believe, I have the exact same skirt from H&M lol. Great minds, eh?!
I’m also loving your new flooring.
Big hugs
Suzy xx
Hey, Suzy!! Thank you for coming by. High five on our H&M skirts!! I will like mine a lot more when my Christmas weight is back off. Working on that now. Thank you for the kind words. Hope to wear the velvet top again soon with a tweed skirt. And we are really enjoying our flooring.
I love the look you put together!! you look simply fabulous!
Wow, thank you. I felt stuffed into that skirt but working on that now!!
I adore this elegant look! The mixture of leather and velvet is perfection. I need to get a skirt like this!

You look great and I forgot how funny you are when you blog! Thank you for the laughs! My “sumptuous fabrics” would be all my plush and sherpa right now — give me all the warmth! Hahaha!!!
This is such a beautiful color combo and mix of textures! You look lovely!
