Hey Dolls!
I am back again to finish up continue my post about the Rediscover Me 28 Day Challenge I participated in during the month of February. As I said in yesterday’s post, I feel that this is more a challenge for LIFE than a 28 day deal. A number of my fellow challengees must feel the same way, as there is a gaggle of us gals who are doing the challenge again this month.
On our second day, Alison asked us to make a list of tolerations that are negatively affecting our life. I wasn’t familiar with the word toleration but Alison explained it as something that drives us slightly crazy but that we put up with rather than deal with or resolve, once and for all. Like that tube of mascara that is truly all dried up but I keep adding warm water to rather than tossing it in the trash and buying new. So we listed those things and then began dealing with them. Throwing out the mascara; putting away the laundry shortly after washing, drying and folding it; sweeping the front and back porch; remembering to set our house alarm EVERY time I leave the house. Somehow writing these pesky little irritants down on the worksheet Alison provided made all the difference. It became FUN to rid myself of a toleration and be able to mark it off my list.
Of course, on an almost daily basis, I added at least one more new toleration to the worksheet.
The rest of the first week, we made lists of additional goals: self care/appearance; health and wellness; personal growth/relationships. Alison provided us examples for each category and a worksheet for recording our goals. We followed the same formula with these more specific goals as we had with our first goal setting exercise.
My self-care/appearance goals included whitening my teeth, taking vitamins, drinking water all daily, taking a de-tox bath once a week, getting a mani or massage once a month.
Some of my health and wellness goals were flossing my teeth at least every other day, lifting weights twice a week, swimming once a week.
And a couple of my personal growth/relationship goals were making Prince Charming my number one priority, listening to my daughters without always offering advice, and Skyping more often with my granddaughter Cady. To this list I added volunteering with the Reflections of Generosity Foundation, the El Paso Holocaust Museum and at The Mustard Seed Cafe.
At the end of each week, we completed a “Goals Focus Form” that worked to help us assess our accomplishments for the days prior and to identify actions we need to take toward addressing our goals and tolerations in the week ahead. Each week’s end we also had to provide at least one way would nurture ourselves (I really like that part!).
Alison emphasized the importance eating healthily, staying well hydrated, making and keeping dental and health appointments (annual mammograms, gynecological exams, and those always fun colonoscopies). She encouraged us to be intentionally active by walking or doing yoga, etc.
See what I mean? Great stuff, huh?
So, how did I do with all of my goal setting and goal fulfilling?
You will have to come back tomorrow to find out.
See you then!
Hugs and sticky kisses,
Lana
Just read parts one and two – I love the goals you set for yourself, and many of them are very similar to ones I have this year. Can’t wait to read more.
