Happy Hump Day! This week I have been subbing as an elementary school librarian and I am worn slick as my BFF Sharon would say.
I don’t know how in the world I worked full-time (and more) for 25 years and managed a home, two daughters, umpteen pets and assorted husbands. Although the Winter and Holiday Challenge began on Monday, I didn’t have the essential cream cable knit sweater needed for that first outfit. I could have subbed something from my closet – another neutral sweater but after I began seeing everyone’s GREAT outfits featuring the cable knit, I knew I HAD to have one, too.
Monday night I shopped all over the Internet for a cream cable knit sweater. I found one at Old Navy and another at Target but worried they might not be long enough for my taste. Tried looking at LOFT, New York and Limited online but no luck.
After work yesterday, I ran by our LOFT Outlet store and voilà, there right inside the door, were two different styles of cream cable knit sweaters. I grabbed them and ran for the fitting room.
While both of them were pretty darn cute, one was a little longer and more flattering on me. Perfect length to pair with jeans but also long enough to cover my lady business when wearing leggings.
SOLD!
On my way to the register, I found myself in the midst of a rack of the cutest knee-length, winter skirts. I grabbed up every style and color in my size and dashed back to the dressing room. I don’t know what tricks the LOFT and LOFT Outlet have up their collective sleeves, but I love the way their clothes fit this grandma body of mine. Maybe it’s their mirrors…I have a skinny mirror at home that makes me look as svelte as Kate Moss. Or maybe it’s the fact that I can wear a size 8 in their clothing even after Thanksgiving and a trip home to mom’s. Whatever it is, I hope they never ever change it.
Although I liked all of the skirts, I limited myself to two. And the cable knit sweater. And a pair of brown tights. Really wanted a crystal statement necklace but got so excited about everything else that I forgot to get the necklace from the display. Next time.
Best of all, when the sales gal rang up my items…EVERYTHING was on sale. Gotta love it. The cable knit sweater was $17.99. The skirts were $19.99 and the tights were 60%, so almost free. I couldn’t pay fast enough!!!
As I swiped my card, the clerk began to ask for my email address to send the receipt but she took a second look at me and then said, “Nevermind, I know it…mommyhon333…
HA! Gotta love that store.
So here is the one outfit I have put together from the first three days of the Winter Challenge.
The cape is from Tradesy.com…gently used clothing. I want to do a post about Tradesy when I sit down again. Wore a gray long sleeved tee from Dress Barn under the cape, navy and burgundy plaid scarf on sale for $2.50 at Charming Charlie’s. Blue cargo pants from my favorite store (LOFT Outlet), boots from Belk.com, boot cuffs from Etsy, and tribal silver earrings from Wal-Mart. I think all of my favorite stores are represented in this outfit. Big smile for my husband who takes my picture as if I was Kate Moss in a fashion shoot. He snaps about a dozen pictures until I realize what he is doing and then I start moving toward him to snatch my phone away.
I am not certain how I like all of this together. I think a shorter scarf or this scarf tied another way might have worked better. But it was fun and I felt good.
Please take time to stop by the blogs of my fashion friends and see how they fashioned the first outfits of the Winter Challenge. And come back next week to see pictures of my great cable knit sweater.

I love your look! You always look so pretty and happy. I think Loft is my very favorite store – and they have magical mirrors!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Lana, Loft does have magical mirrors. And I bought a magical mirror for my bedroom…oops, that doesn’t sound right. But it is in my bedroom…I use it for taking challenge pics. It makes me look about 6’2″ and 120 pounds.
Thank you for your sweet compliments.
Sharon
You make me smile every time I read your blog. I miss shopping with you!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Ahhh! I miss shopping with you. We could do some real damage together, huh? Maybe this spring we can finally get together again. I still think about all the fun we had when I was there. Hopeful that once Cheryl moves to Houston that will give us more opportunity to see each other, too.

You make me laugh.

What a sweet thing to say. I never think of myself as funny. Glad I can be after all! Thank you.
Carrie
Leslie, could you be any more sweet and real – love it! Congrats on your finds!

I can’t think of a better compliment, Carrie, than being described as REAL. Thank you so much. I think I am pretty real…for the good and the bad. XO
