Fellow writers and readers, I am giving the 5 Minute Friday Writing Prompt with Kate a try. A rather unsuccessful try for my first go-round as my timer went off before I had written the word ‘leave’ a single time in my paragraph. Clearly, I am going to have to work on this a bit. I knew what I wanted to write but struggled to get it down. Should have started with my last sentence first…
Gingerly, I climbed over the neighbor’s gate and walked slowly toward you wondering who would leave (there it is) a tiny kitty outside in this unbearable heat?
Finding Purrcival
Asking Alexa to set a timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.
When I opened the backdoor and heard you crying somewhere close by in the 104* summer heat, I knew I had to find you. Help you. At first, I thought you were the neighbor’s kitty, we call Fluff (they call Jasper) who has spent more time at our house in the last 4 years than at his own. But I followed your agonizing meows to our backdoor neighbor’s backyard and found you, there, behind the shed, panting and crying and panting some more. Dashed into the house and fetched 2 plastic containers, one filled with food and the other with water, then ran out the door and down the sidewalk to the house where you were. Knocked on the neighbor’s door but no answer. Tried the gate to their backyard but it was locked. I slipped the water dish between the wrought iron bars on the gate and made the kissing noise that generally calls all kitties. You stepped from behind the shed but hesitated to come closer. Still crying and panting. Gingerly, I climbed over the neighbor’s gate and walked slowly toward you wondering who would leave a tiny kitty outside in this unbearable heat?
STOP.
Welcome home, Purrcival.

Your Turn
Have you ever tried doing a timed writing experience? Or writing to a prompt? I have always liked writing to a prompt because it makes me put on my thinking cap. But adding in the timer made me nervous!! I panicked. Ha! So this is going to take some practice. Stay tuned for my next attempt.
Off to read blogs!! If you blog, I will be stopping by this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday and Sunday, friends.
Hugs and kisses,
I have to admit this reminds me of state testing with my fourth graders. Of course, they had to write for an entire hour and would have probably loved only five minutes! But, your piece is so well done and breaks my heart for that tiny little furball. I’m so glad he’s a part of your life now.

Thank you so much. We love Purrcival, who is now ‘milking’ my neck as I type this. We took the ‘found’ signs down today and decided he is officially ours.
I was about to ask if you adopted him. Adorable kitty.
We did!! And Purrcival has been a joy.
Never tried it! Never heard of it. Fun. Enjoy your weekend.
I need 10 minutes!! Five minutes wasn’t enough. Thank you, sweet friend.
Awww! I love the name Purrcival for a cat!!
Thank you!! He is a little monster but so lovable.
that’s one sure fire way to gain a new family member. 🙂 Hopefully the neighbours didn’t mind the incursion. He’s a lovely tabby.
Thank you so much!! I couldn’t ignore the pleading meows of this little one out in that terrible heat. He is quite at home here now.
What a lucky little kitty is Purrcival:) Thanks for sharing your story – and kudos for getting it written in five minutes. That timer can be so pesky!!
Thank you!! Going to keep practicing at this five minute Friday business!!
Well done! And thank you for caring for that poor baby.
Sounds like he got very lucky you came along : )
What a very sweet message!! He has been more of a blessing to us than we have been to him. Thank you for the visit and the kind comment.
I just knew you were going to adopt him! What a lovely rescue story, he’s very lucky to have been found by you x
