Happy Tuesday, ladybugs,
Joining my friend Laura at The Horton Family for the second installment of her new series Write with Me: 3 Things. Laura explains the series as an opportunity to spark the creative juices of anyone struggling in the area of writing. She said that back in December, she found myself “wanting” to write, but simply didn’t have any content or ideas to write about. Enter the 3 Things series. Laura thought having 3 questions each month would at least give her something to think and write about. I really enjoyed participating in the inaugural 3 Things post, here. As with Grammy Dee’s short story prompts, Laura’s new series is providing me with opportunities to write.
3 Things
In the graphic below, you can read the 3 things Laura has asked us to consider this month.
My Responses
Good Luck
- Do you believe in luck? Why or why not? Toughie tough tough question! I think so, yes, I do believe in luck. My brother Kevin is lucky. He won a brand new Ford Mustang. PC is semi-lucky…he married me! But almost everyone who knows me would tell you if not for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all. I have had one crazy ride in my adult life and while some of the craziness might come from poor decisions on my part (like marrying more than once the wrong kind of guys), there are things that add up to bad luck. Just can’t figure out how else to explain it. One example, years ago, the girls’ father and I were shipping a car to the U.S. from Panama. A car that barely ran. It had to be pushed into the lot at the pier where it remained until the car was loaded onto a ship that would deliver it to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We had to leave one set of keys with the car. Walking across the pier where we left the car, my ex-husband dropped our second set of keys and they fell through the tiniest crack in the pier and straight into the Pacific Ocean. His key chain and the keys on it had to line up just perfectly to pass straight through the crack. Crazy.
Yesterday or Today
- What was your favorite thing about yesterday or today? Can I answer both? Yesterday, it was having my girls here with me, taking Lucia to the park before they left for their trip home. Today, scrapbooking and Skyping (Skryping) with my sister Valerie. Managed to get 2 pages completed. Well, all but gluing down the photos. And we might just do it again tomorrow.
Last Picture Show
- Show us the last picture you took and a short description of it. PC swinging Cia at the park yesterday. Baby girl loves to swing. She even fell asleep in the swing on Saturday. I love swinging, too. Do you?
I am a bit delinquent getting this published. Had it ready to go and then somehow, in one swift movement, I deleted all but the first paragraph above. Went back over my revision history trying to retrieve what I had written and the revisions were inaccessible (which I just realized is in inaccessible and not unaccessable). Just another example of my luck.
Your Turn
Do you believe in luck? Are you lucky? Do you win things? Has unexpected good fortune been bestowed upon you? I would love to know. In so many ways, I am very blessed. But lucky…not so much.
Please be sure to stop by Laura’s to see how she answered these questions. I have a feeling she’s lucky. Let’s go find out.
Hugs and kisses,
Valerie Price
1. I do not consider myself to have bad or good luck. I have never won anything significant nor have I lost anything (not counting loved ones). I do think that some people are luckier than others, however, if bad luck gets you down it will continue to come. I am pretty good about laughing it off and moving on.
2. Yesterday was my first day of spring break and I promised myself I would not spend the whole spring break doing stupid stuff and running around aimlessly. After a doctors appointment yesterday morning and dropping my car off at the shop, I stayed home and scrapped with Leslie. Yes, I had no car and couldn’t leave, but can’t think of anywhere I would have preferred to be. I even pulled three or four handfuls of weeds. That leaves only about 300 more handfuls for tomorrow.
3. My last picture put me in a little bit of a quandary. My appointment yesterday was for allergy testing, so I got 80 sticks in the back. So, I thought my last picture was me looking at my constellation on my back. Well lets go back to the luck question, because as luck would have it, I took a screen shot accidentally at 8:39 this morning. I do not know how to post it here, so you will have to take my word for it. My husband gave me an apple watch for Christmas and my home screen is Toy Story characters. My Andrew, who we lost to cancer at 3, was a huge Buzz Lightyear fan. We say he has gone to Infinity and Beyond. I can sit and just watch the Toy Story characters on my watch. My husband used to think I was reading texts but I am actually watching my mini picture show and happily thinking of the good old days. Sometimes it puts a little tear in my eye, but I love it. Today had Woody and it is great.
As you can tell, I am the sister of few words. Unlike Leslie, I don’t love writing, but this prompt spoke to me and I am happy to be involved. Love you little big sister.

You are so good at laughing bad luck off and carrying on. I get down, I am afraid but bounce back after I have wallowed in self pity for a bit. I love our scrapbook days. I glued the pages together that I was working on the last time we Skryped. Ready for another session! Glad you have the Toy Story gang to entertain you during the sci fi nights at home. I truly believe Andrew comes to you with little things like your screen shot. He was such a character, it would be just like him!
Thank you for playing along. Love when I discover you have responded to something I’ve shared. Love to read about life from your perspective. I love you big little sister. XO
Laura
Awwww! The story about losing the car keys in the Pacific ocean just made my heart drop! Dang it! But I also loved the story of that fine car, too! Your granddaughters are just beautiful and I remember my own Baby Girl loving the park and swings at that age, too! Has Spring sprung where you’re at in Texas? Thanks for joining me this month for 3 Things!

I am so glad you started 3 Things, Laura. I can hardly wait for the next one! Spring has arrived in El Paso. We brushed the pool today and cleaned the deck but the water is still in the 60s. Won’t be long, though, til it is warm enough to swim. Can’t wait! Need to stop by your blog to see if you shared that dip I saw on your Insta. It looked delish.

Hi, Leslie – I do believe in luck….and hard work ….and prayer!
Your grandchildren are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing this!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Hard work. Absolutely! I have preached the importance of hard work and doing your best to my daughters all their lives. Poor things! I think you can change your luck through hard work. At least some of the time. And prayer is always an important ingredient to success and a good life.
Thank you for the sweet comment on my grands. They are so precious to me.
Dara
I think I believe in luck. I’m not usually lucky but I’m on a raffle winning streak!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
Ya for raffle winning streaks! Do you play the lottery or Powerball? I rarely do. Maybe your winning streak might transfer onto to lottery wins!
Laura
Although I like to use the word luck I actually believe it is more of a blessing. Maybe some people are more blessed than others? Or maybe it is more obvious how some people are blessed while with others it is more subtle. I loved reading your perspective!
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I completely agree with you that what might seem to be luck is often more of a blessing. Blessed to be born in the United States. Blessed to have been born to my parents. I am blessed!!
Kellyann Rohr
Oh my goodness, that story about the keys falling through the crack! Holy cow, what are the odds? And your brother winning a Ford Mustang? Wow!
I know your heart is so happy when you are with your girls, love the sweet pictures! That smile!!!
xo,
Kellyann

I am so happy with my babies. Cleaned the pool today and thought of how I hope they will come this summer to enjoy pool time. You are going to love being a grandmother when the time comes. It is one of life’s best experiences.
Amy
I think my opinions on luck are about the same as yours. Sometimes its purely related to choices, good or bad, but other times it just seems people are lucky.
Leslie Roberts Clingan
I have always heard and hoped that what comes around goes around. So, I hope that is true.
