Hey gals!
Hope you enjoyed a peaceful Christmas day surrounded by those you love most. Brennyn and Cady left for home on the 22nd so PC and I were here alone, which was a little sad. It felt a little more like just a regular day rather than Christmas.
While the girls were here I told them I wanted to try to do Cocoa Jammy Christmas. I first heard about this activity on Shay Shull’s blog last year. When I read her post about this year’s go-round, I knew that I wanted to do it while my girlsies were home.
Before you read any further here, please take just a sec to hop over to Shay’s blog post, here, to see how Cocoa Jammy Christmas should be orchestrated – like a fine symphony. Or maybe you are already as big a fan of the Mix and Match Family blog as I am and have already read all about their fun?

So, from here I thought I would do a little comparison of our Jammy Cocoa Christmas with the Shull family event. Then you can see how close we came to hitting this thing ‘outta da ballpark’!
From the above list of rules for Jammy Cocoa Christmas, number one states you have to wear your pajamas. Here are the adorable Shull babies wearing theirs.

From left to right, Smith, Kensington and Ashby. I have loved virtually getting to know this little family and have so delighted in reading how well Ashby has adapted to being a little Texan over the almost twelve months since her adoption from China. Read about that, here. I love Smith and Kensington’s matching slippers and the girls’ matching nightgowns. Precious babies.
Here’s what we wore for our Cocoa Jammy Christmas.
I think I have some ‘splainin’ to do, as Lucy (aka Lucille Ball) would say, about our lingerie, lounge wear. I am not trying to pass off an Under Armor sweatshirt as a robe or faux UGGs as slippers. I do know better and know the difference – in both cases. It’s just that I don’t have a robe or slippers. For your information, those are Victoria’s Secret pajamas I am sporting!
I don’t know what’s wrong with Brennyn and Cady.
Ha!
Just kidding!
Brennyn forgot to bring pjs so I loaned her a sleep shirt of mine (duh…rather than one belonging to some random stranger). It is Gilligan & O’Malley from Target, in case you are in the market for one yourself. She is wearing yoga pants (her own) and completed the ensemble with flip-flops I brought her as a souvenir from Cancun. Kinda like “my mom went to Cancun and all she brought me were these crummy sandals”.
Cady is at least wearing a real night gown and robe. Fashioned with tennis shoes. The light-up kind, of course. And she looks so enthusiastic. You would think we were dragging her to the dentist (that actually came a few days later). Her nightgown is Target and her robe and tennies from Amazon.
Just like that, we are off.
Rule two says we must listen to Christmas music on our way to get cookies and cocoa. Since Cady doesn’t really like cookies or cocoa, we opted for doughnuts and milk instead. And since I grew up without singing many Christmas songs and sadly raised my daughters similarly (wish I had done better now), I decided to whistle “White Christmas” in the car.
Rules three and four say that you must stop for cocoa (or coffee) and you must go into the coffee shop in your pjs. I give you Smith and Ashby Shull doing just that.

So as not to inflict our lounge wear on the good folks at Krispy Kreme, we opted for drive-through.
Wouldn’t want to put anyone’s eyes out.
The sweet gal at the drive-through took a pretty good picture considering, at my suggestion, she closed her eyes while taking the photo and serving us.
Rule five states that you must eat a cookie (or two) with your cocoa.

Knowing how well Shay Shull cooks…not that I have personally eaten at her house or eaten anything she has prepared at my house, but I have tried the recipes she shares on her blog…DELISH! What was I saying? Oh, yeah…knowing how well Shay cooks, I am sure she had homemade cookies to eat with this cocoa. Aren’t her little ones adorable?
Here is our take on Rule five.
Krispy Kremes and cold milk, back home where we can’t cause any harm and can stay out of trouble.
Rule seven suggests driving around to look at lights and Rule eight encourages all participants in Jammy Cocoa Christmas to have fun.
This precious family knows how to have fun.
We wound up doing the driving around looking at lights at night because at breakfast time it is a little hard to see the lights on.
Yeah, the lights are definitely much better at night.
And maybe the only thing we have in common with the Shull family, is that we also know how to have fun.
Except on the rare occasion that poor Cady is thinking about the dentist.
The day after she got home from my house, the poor baby had to have two front teeth pulled. As a tiny one, she had fallen (in an airport on their way home from a trip), and chipped her front teeth. The dentist had worried then that she might lose them before they were truly ready to be replaced by her adult teeth.
Those teeth had to be extracted last week.
She was such a trooper! And not only that, but she was able to honestly sing, “All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth“.
Until she lost a third tooth the following day.
I want to thank Shay Shull and her family for being such an inspiration to me and so many others.
Her blog is such a great read and so well represents her beautiful family, their triumphs and occasional struggles. I was thrilled when she replied to my email asking permission to use her images and Cocoa Jammy Christmas graphic on my blog. Thank you, Shay!
Thank you guys for being my sweet, faithful friends. Hope you will come back again.
Hugs and kisses,
Sheila @ Sheila's Potpourri
This was such a fun (and FUNNY!) post! I loved your take on it! My 15 yo daughter actually came up with something quite similar this Christmas season which we carried out but with no documentation because who knew it was a “thing”?

Thank you! We are going to get our acts together next year and blow this out of the water. Did your daughter have the bucket list? I remember seeing that somewhere and even saved the picture and pinned it on Pinterest. Love it!

Her blog is one of my absolute favorite blogs to read! I don’t know how she keeps up her food blog and her family blog and she posts I think 6 days a week! She def. manages time better then me. I love that you did this while your daughter and granddaughter were in town! Oh, and the poor girl and her front teeth! Ouch! My daughter has her two front teeth hanging by a thread right now, anyway they will fall out!

Shay is amazing. I don’t know how she does it all either. And still looks so put-together and cooks great meals and enjoys such great time with family. I must be doing something wrong!!! Hope your baby girl is feeling better and that the tooth fairy finds her once her teeth come out. I want to write a post about what all my daughter did for Cady’s first tooth fairy visit. She went all out!

Sounds like a fun and very typical Roberts outing. So glad you had a chance to start a new tradition. I, however, did not see PC’s PJs. Thanks for the early morning chuckle after a long short night b

We are going to polish this even and do it much better next year. And we will have another donut eater in the family then! Yippeee!
Glad for your good results on your test today. I love you.

I think you did a great job with Jammy Cocoa Christmas! I loved all the pictures. You guys are awesome :)! I’m sorry about your granddaughter’s teeth. Thomas had a similar situation when he was four, and the new ones didn’t grow in for a few years. So he had a couple of Christmases where he wanted new front teeth!

We plan to give Jammy Cocoa Christmas a go next year complete with pjs! Poor Thomas!
Shay Shull
Oh my goodness Leslie! What a fun post! I am so happy that your family participated this year too :). Seriously, this made my day! Have a happy New Year!!

Thank you so much for coming by! I am thrilled to be able to say Shay Shull visited my blog. We already have plans to improve our Jammy-Cocoa Christmas for next year and will try to follow your good example. Happy New Year to you and your family!
